Gregg Doyel Shreds UT.

If i'm not mistaken, Tabb was the one that got crossed up on that last shot.....

I wasn't talking about the last shot. I was talking about the one before that - Maze was still in and got owned. And Tabb was screened without any help defense so hardly 100% his fault.

Great article, Doyle. Maybe Pearl should pull some schollies and get some hungry players..............the kind that should but don't get recruited as "blue-chip". JP has been a joke all year and Hopson couldn't carry Lofton's j-strap. The D........forget about it. I'd have em all running wind sprints till next fall.

I'm glad that there are people who are paid to be "sports writers" who aren't afraid to speak the truth and save me the time. This story was spot-on.

I can't imagine a much more ridiculous gameplan than to have a taller, more athletic team that shoots poorly from the perimeter settle for quick threes and not drive the paint against a shorter team in foul trouble.

All in all, a very disappointing season for the BasketVols. Here's to hoping that we can learn from our shortcomings this season and make improvements before the fall, both in play and in coaching.

This article is well-deserved. This time lacked heart this year. Desire is what made all of our other BP teams great. Dane, JaJuan, Chris and all those other guys played every game with everything they had. The only players on this team that have heart like that are Tyler and Negedu. I just wish it would rub off on the other guys. Hopefully we find our identity this offseason and come back hungry and ready for next year. However, I do agree that Bruce needs to be held accountable, but I know that he is very disappointed in himself and his players this year. He will come back and lead our team to great things in the future, if we just give him the chance IMO. Go Vols!

Good article. He's right a lot of them seem satisfied, with what? Screaming like they just won the national title after one made basket. Thats a soft, lazy, poorly coached team and thats about it.

Uh huh...

The 2002 Peach Bowl against Maryland was my Fulmer Moment -- I wasn't calling for his head yet or anything, but I never really looked at him the same way again. It's entirely possible that looking at the box score of the Oklahoma State game may be my Pearl Moment. The way we approached that game was inexcusable.

33 out of 56 shots were threes? By the worst three-point-shooting team in the whole field? Really?

Did not see the game but a friend just told me that during a time out the commentators commented on the fact that the bench was waving to the crowd and that was not like a Pearl coached team.

This makes me wonder if some or maybe all of the players lack respect for CBP. Maybe and a BIG maybe, what if the players do not listen to his instructions. They think they are bigger and better than the coach?

Great Article, it was the truth. If UT had played with half the heart ETSU played with against Pitt, we win by 20.

This was pretty much going to be my response BPV.

I'm only talking about T Smith from an effort and team spirit standpoint. I just wish he would show his leadership a bit more.

Are you high? Do you not think the Bruce Lee stare of death and frozen karate pose after his basket was showing leadership?

All it lacked was a fast moving mouth, with subtitles...

"You killed my brother."

The article is absolutely correct. After watching our football team the last few years, it hurts to watch the bball team go out there and act apathetic.

The thing that killed me about the game yesterday, was the fact that we got OK ST in foul trouble in the 1st half and refused to attack the basket and draw more fouls in the 2nd half. I'm not sure how many 3's we took in the 2nd half but I'm sure it was way more than 2 point baskets.

A point guard would help, but if he is just going to dish to Chism on the perimeter it isn't going to put this team over the top.
I heard the And1 league has a lot of openings. Probably where most of these showboaters end up, that or europe.

i can't say i disagree with any of it. in the end, they ended their season the way they had played most all year long. and that's not good enough to make a deep run in the aa's.

It is painfully obvious that the talent was there, but in terms of preparation, defense and overall game planning there wasn't a player on the team that really gave a rat's ass. While I think Pearl does care about the performance of his teams, I don't think there are many players on this team are coachable.

Determining the responsible party for that fact is really what we are left with on the VN.

You know, I am glad that this 2008 Sports season is over for Tennessee. It's been painful to sit through. The football team was pathetic, the mens bball team took an early exit, and the womens bball team isn't doing well either. Florida beat Tennessee in baseball. I am just READY for 2009-2010 season to arrive. Hopefully, it will be better than the last.

Yeah don't look for baseball to save us. They are terrible and I suspect Raliegh's stay in Knoxville is going to be a short one.

And I'm not expecting Kiffin to be a miracle worker in one season, though looking at the schedule we SHOULD at least make a bowl game. The OOC schedule this year is very weak, which actually may be good for this team to recover. I still think we get beat by Florida, Alabama, and Georgia but hopefully we can win the rest.

I have always said that in college, the coach has even more responsibility than in professional sports because the college coach selects all of his own players. As much as I like Pearl and what he's done for UT, he has not brought in the players that will lead to a highly successful program.

The very first scholarship he gave was to Ryan Childress, a player who contributed nothing to the team this year on the court. We still have yet to find a competent PG to replace CJ Watson. And many of the players that CBP has brought to the program are not responding to whatever coaching is going on.

When you have JP Prince on the perimeter, it is impossible for him to feed the post because his man will always slack off, knowing that JP can't shoot. When you have a PG in Bobby Maze who does not want to take charge, it adds to the problem. Then you have your best post man shooting 9 3's with no consequences. Pearl needs to correct the players he has or bring in players that can perform or we will not get past where we are right now.

the players were coachable enough that had they been told not to shoot another 3 all day, they could have figured it out. Somehow, there was a coach there who never said that the remainder of our shots SHALL be in the paint.
