Griffith implies VolNation is a large source of motivation for team

Who really cares anyway? However bruce is doing it, it isnt working. It would be hard to deny that tennessee plays well with their backs agaisnt the wall at this point. But of course, Kevin O'neill could do it better.

Exactly. That type of motivation goes out the window the moment the ball is tipped.

Not true. When Hopson was shooting those free throws last year against Michigan St., he was thinking about message board posters. Griffith told me that's why he missed one.

This type of statement has actually turned into more of a cliche' than "proving the doubters wrong" Ask Reggie Miller or Michael Jordan if all that went out the window the moment the ball was tipped.

Name another way masses of fans could send messages essentially directly to multiple players and coaches?

The stands. Dont pretend that the new delivery method changes things. All players of all eras have found doubters to help motivate themselves.

Do you want to use it during workouts as motivational fuel? Yes. As a coach, I do not want my players thinking about what people say about them while on the court during a game.

Youre right. Their talent had not a damn thing to do with their careers. It was those pesky naysayers.

I'd say booing guys that suck and cheering guys that excel is pretty direct.

So you boo'ed the last time Swipes checked in? How about when BP was introduced in the Console Center? Didn't think so. Like it or not, they read this stuff. And if enough ppl were bashing my coach, it would motivate me. As it would most athletes. I'd also say their defensive intensity is a direct result of effort and motivation. Coincidence? I think not.

Your statement has nothing to do with what I said. Both have said that they thrived off of critisicm. Even to the point of convincing themselves of something that wasnt true to give them fuel. They also arent the only ones.

So you are saying they play better defense because they are highly motivated from reading VN where 10-15 people "bash" BP. That's a lot of power.

So last year was the first time this rule applied, or the motivation just wasn't happening prior?

The US Postal Service?

Yeh bc Jimmy Joe and Jay R. have the time to try and find out the physical address of each player they disapprove of. Get real. And if your next answer is they could mail them to the BBall dept, they would be thrown away. And ppl don't do that. THEY DO, however, RANT online (myself included) and players/coaches/parents DO READ IT. Anyone who would deny that or try to say they wouldn't is an idiot.

It's so stupid that players say they use stuff like this as motivation. How does it make them better? Do they run faster, shoot better, play smarter?

Fear of failure is the biggest motivator. What someone says behind a computer or in section 320 thinks doesn't amount to shiz.

Its not Volnation. That assertion that volnation is the catalyst is laughable. It is a cumulative affect of all the backlash towards Pearl and the program that have motivated the team. And it doesnt go away just because the ball is tipped.

While ppl can obviously BOO, or cheer for T Summit, its nowhere near the level of feedback online.
