Griffith implies VolNation is a large source of motivation for team

Per this logic, why haven't our complaints about the officiating this year made any headway? I guess we need a new thread.

Definitely couldn't be the fact that, a team with Chris Lofton, JaJuan Smith, Dane Bradshaw, Ramar Smith, and Wayne Chism as your starting 5 wouldn't be a good half-court defensive team. I'm sure Pearl would love to play man to man with Dane at the 4 and JaJuan on the opposing 3, that sounds like great coaching.

Fact is we didn't have the personnel to implement a hard-nosed half-court team. Now if we have to play a 4 guard lineup, we will be a pressing team again. Pearl changes philosophy on what he has, it's not that hard to see. Seems like Roy Williams needs to do that a little more instead of relying on the best talent year in and year out to bail him out.

So instead you decide on controlled chaos with less athletic people? Sounds like the logic you would use.

Yes, because that definitely was a big failure for Pearl's early teams wasn't it? After all, a team that was **** before Pearl got here didn't shock the country by the seasons they had now did they? Not just about less athleticism either, it's about size, wingspan, etc... If you want to think that the Ramar-Lofton-JaJuan-Bradshaw-Chism team was more suited for half-court defense like we are seeing now then who is the one that is an idiot?

You don't have to be athletic to be tough. Not surprised you missed the point.

The answer is of course. Especially come tournament time.

So a team that was best at speeding the temp up, getting shots in transition, was undersized, etc... was best at playing a slow-down half-court game. Makes a lot of sense.

Think we should just stick in a zone the whole time? Or you think a man-man with Bradshaw and JaJuan being overmatched would be best?

So you like a group who is overmatched athletically to press and give away easy baskets?

But we know how it played out when an off night of shooting happened.

So either way they are overmatched... but what did the press do? It was intended to speed up the game, a style that JaJuan, Chris, and the other personnel was better suited for. That was not a half-court team, Chis, JaJuan, and CJ were terrible in the half-court with Buzz, the few games that teams slowed it down under Bruce and played half-court they didn't look good either. So you are overmatched either way defensively, but one style speeds the game up while the other style would leave you overmatched both offensively and defensively.

No it wouldn't. Contested shots don't make you suffer on either.

Have you spent any time around anyone who knows basketball? Style of play and tempo have nothing to do with matchups. Overmatched teams need to limit possessions - always. Tempo was trying to play to our strength and Our coach's system, but we made no effort on D.

That team was not a good defensive team, they had to win by forcing turnovers, getting out in transition, and hitting the 3. So yes, that style was better suited for them just as this style we are playing now is better suited for a lineup that has the size at each position to match up well with pretty much anyone in the country.

Because we sucked defensively. Chris Lofton and Dane Bradshaw were awful defensively.

And yes style of play and tempo have everything to do with matchups. So based on that, our pathetic roster when Pearl got here was overmatched many times... seems like not limiting possessions didn't hurt them did it?

Watch teams who are successful in March. You will be hard pressed to find one that is not physical or spare little effort on defense.

Tell me which team in March had Dane Bradshaw starting at the 4?

We made no effort in the half court. Our press was part of that problem.

Our tempo didn't win games ever. We won when CLo or JJ was drilling 3s. We lost when they weren't. Our style was mismatched with our talent. When overmatched, our shooting gave us a chance. Tempo exacerbated the problem when shooting didn't carry us. That's the makeup of inconsistent teams.

And that was the only way we could win. And yes our tempo won games many times, and if you do not think that then you have problems.
