Gruden next UT Coach??????

I see two ways Gruden might fail as a college coach:

1. He shows up.
2. He implements "his" offense.

Had to fix your post for you, man.

What part of

GARBAGE

was the hardest to understand?? Let's put it this way. If Jon Gruden is ever named the head coach at the University of Tennessee, there will be one less fan for the time he is the coach. I'll go without college football, and I guaran-damn-tee you that I won't be the only one. You think the "Claw-fense" was atrocious?? Gruden makes Clawson look like Bill Belichick. However, these are just my opinions, so let's go with facts, shall we??

Jon Gruden was hired/traded to the Buccaneers in 2002. The cost?? 2002 1st and 2nd round draft picks, 2003 first-round draft pick, 2004 second round draft pick, and $8 million in cash. Mmkay, so we start off by taking away all hope for getting a young playmaker on the team. That's okay, though, Gruden LOVES him some old players (this seems eerily reminiscent of a former UT HC, just saying....)

To make it easier to understand (all numbers are rankings out of 32 NFL teams)

2002 Offense (12-4, Super Bowl win): 18th in points scored, 24th in total yards.
2003 Offense (7-9): 18th in points scored, 10th in total yards
2004 Offense (5-11): 23rd in points scored, 22nd in total yards.
2005 Offense (11-5): 20th in points scored, 23rd in total yards.
2006 Offense (4-12): 31st in points scored, 29th in total yards.
2007 Offense (9-7): 18th in points scored, 18th in total yards.
2008 Offense (9-7): 19th in points scored, 14th in total yards.

Really indicative of an "offensive genius", amiright?? And oh, yeah, I might wanna mention that the winning seasons you see above?? The defense was top 10 or better, the 2002 squad was #1 overall in points given up and yards given up. Something that Gruden had no control over (take a bow, Monte Kiffin). If Jon Gruden were the coach here at Tennessee, we'd be looking at Ole Miss and Kentucky and thinking "man, I wish we were that good". Seriously. Keep this clown away from Knoxville at all costs. Cut the tires on his airplane, car, bus, and bicycle if you have to.

The Gruden talk is the most far fetched coach talk on this board, never will happen on so many fronts its not even funny.

Thank the Flying Spaghetti Monster. Bless His Noodly Appendage. R'Amen.

Ask Nebraska, Texas A&M how it worked out by hiring a NFL coach. All though it's the same game, running a NFL program and college program are two different breeds of animals. I heard this at a coaches clinic a couple years back from a guy who from college to the NFL and back to college.... Nick Satan himself. Now if Gruden has spent time under a head coach at the D1 level for the past 5 years ok take a look at him. I know he spent time at UT back in the mid 80's as a GA but that was 27 YEARS AGO!!

kill thread. no need to be discussing other coaches since dooley will be with us a long time. if we go .500 this year, then perhaps this discussion would be appropriate. and if you can't accept that dooley, himself, has set our program up to win this year, then you should be making comments about how the assistants will make dooley look good or something. also i threw out .500, but don't take that number too seriously. personally, i have very high hopes for this year, and an expectation of 8 w's.

Good coaches have success regardless the level. You can make excuses all you want, Grizz. But deep down you know the game doesn't change from level to level.

Look at the coaches they hired. Bad examples.

Paul Brown coached at Massillon high, Ohio State, Cleavland and Cincinnati and was successful. This is the only example that comes to mind. Can you give me any other example?

Spurrier, Saban, Weis, and many others disagree. There are many differences in coaching in the two leagues and being on the road recruiting is the main one. Guy thats a multimillionaire and has a SB ring isn't scratching to get back and chase 18 yr olds around the country to convince them to play for him.

Not starting a fight man, just making a point.

Vince Lambardi coached at a catholic HS, was an assistant under Red Blake at Army was the offensive coordinator for the giants and he coach the guys up on the NFL side Like he was still at Army and this did not go over well with the old pro vets and they did not listen to him. So he went to a giants player and asked what am I doing wrong. Once he adjusted to the way you handle a NFL franchise he became a legend. If you've been around football at any level you will recognize there are differences. HS is a little more comparison to college because of the youth aspect, pro is the ultimate level it's a different breed. And in my earlier post I said the game is the same but things are a little different at each level. I've listen to coaches at every level at coaches clinics.

And a damn good point!!
