Gruden makes $4.3 million at espn for working a few hours each week. Why would he possibly give that job---maybe the best job in america.

Kiffin is a much better football coach than Dooley. And Dooley didn't come here because he felt charitable.

Just look at the situation today, this program is filled with promise for the season. The have a full roster, and a lot of skill at the key positions. This is the season where CDD will show his coaching ability (or lack of... as many here hope).

IMO...CDD will be a fixture at UT for years to come...the man will mature into the role of a head coach of a major football program, we will see a change in him this year.

The Vols under CDD's leadership will win enough games to capture the hearts of even some you you haters.

Gruden will be asked to coach here until he either accepts the job, or has to get a restraining order on Hart. Wait and see

So Gruden is going to take a cut in pay, give up his time with the family to hit the recruiting trail just so he can coach here...yeah that makes perfect sense.

Most likely yes he would be the next HC, there has been a ton of behind the scenes rumblings about that for 2 years now, but I do want Dooley to have a great year and succeed at Tennessee. He's a good guy and I hope he proves to be a good Head Coach.

What is his current pay with ESPN? He'd be getting a Sabanesque type of contract. Does he make that much now per year?

herbstreit--makes millions for working a few hours on saturday (sometimes one other day)

My old man seems to think he's a lock for the next HC job at UT. I told him he's a few fries short of a happy meal.

Yeah, even if Gruden stepped in after this season, to replace Dooley, it would still be rather detrimental to have another complete staff turnover.

This is why I HOPE Dooley has a great year, and eventually proves to be a solid SEC coach. Doesn't mean I think he necessarily will be. That remains yet to be seen.

He was also the only HC in the modern era to rebuild the Raiders from the ground up to be a Superbowl caliber team.

Gruden's biggest problem was QB's. He mistakenly thought he could turn average, backup level QB's into Pro Bowlers. Never happened in Tampa. Had they drafted them an Andrew Luck or RG3, he'd still be the HC for Tampa.

That was a tough division to win, with Chris Simms or Garcia as your QB. Good backups, maybe...but not starters.
