Hardnosed political discussion . . .

Yep . . . When I get ripped or flamed, I view it as an opportunity. :p

Well I like to consider myself to be an equal opportunity offender - if you can't laugh at yourself - who can you laugh at?? Every body is so hypersensitive these days!!!

AMEN BROTHER! 90% of what I do is to make people think and laugh.......the other 10% well, that is another story.......

Hey, since Ohio is going to lose their Republican control of the state, I am building a temporary conservative shelter in my back yard. My family and I will descend once the Democrats are in control and all sense of normality will be gone, speaking of course of Republican normality. You know, morals, enforcement of the law, pro law enforcement, pro military, pro God, pro-life, pro free market, anti socialist....etc......

We will have things in the shelter that will remind us of days gone by. Things such as a 1611 version of the King James Bible, the King James Bible is way to liberal, I will not even comment on the New International Version, an American Flag, Christian Flag, Marine Corps Flag, Army Flag, Navy Flag, Air Force Flag, 4 mounted 50 cal. anti aircraft machine guns...etc.....NRA rules!

Onward Christian Soldiers and Amazing Grace will be looped throughout the shelter.

Once the takeover of my precious United States by the evil Democrats I will move my family and the followers of conservatism to a quaint secluded parcel of land in an unnamed area.

We will refer to Democrats as "Those who we do not speak of"; we will tell our children of the greatness of America!

:ermm: :aggressive: :blush2: :ill_h4h:

Oh by the way, if we are going to label each other, I am a South Park Republican.

preach it bigtime. not all mexicans are bad though. i agree with you they are pushing the issue way to far. if they are illegals they should deport everyone of them.

question empire this is a serious one, you don't have to answer if you don't want to i understand. since taft is out as GOV of ohio this year, are you going to vote for blackwell or another canidate for the republicans or the democratic challenger. i know if taft was a democrat i might have to swing the other way and vote republican after the way he destroyed ohio. like i said he is one of the reasons i vote straight democrat now. i know that is about the only way i would vote for a republican. i was wondering what you thought. like i said sort of a personal question if you don't want to answer i completely understand, just curious.

Personally, outside of local elections, I've only voted for one Democrat in the last 10 years . . . and looking back, I'm not sure it really counts since it was Zell Miller. :D

To be honest with you, when I first moved to Ohio was during Taft's re-election campaign. He promised to lower taxes and promote business and pretty much destroyed Tim Haggan running on the platform of "Taxing Tim Haggan".

Well now that it is settled you have Taft raising taxes and destroying business opportunities in Ohio by his failed policies and initiatives.

Then comes the scandals and mishandling of funds.....

I personally know Jim Petro and Ken Blackwell and I think either are decent men but I have to consider their agenda's. I have heard rallies in Dayton and it almost seems like Blackwell wants to establish some sort of Theocracy.

Petro is basically a career politician rising through the ranks. Governor is just the next stop.

The Democratic challenger I would consider is Ted Strickland.

Bluntly, I do not think there is very much difference between a Republican and or Democratic politician. I honestly believe that.

Either party talks a great game and never delivers on any thing that actually helps the average American.

At present this country is greatest on the face of the Earth, in history for that matter. Just imagine how much better it could be without all the stupid political rhetoric and bureaucracy.

Is political rhetoric really that bad a thing though? Love it or hate it, it's how things get done.

I think the 24 hour news cycle has worn people out more than anything.

The news is lazy IMHO.

They put on "both sides" through using partisans that yell at each other. Some deeper analysis would be nice.

That's available on PBS everyday. Nobody watches it. People are more concerned with being entertained than they are with being informed.

I agree . . . The split screen yell-fest has definitely become a tired format. It is predictable every single time. Who cares about hearing people yell buzzwords and party lines at each other when I know exactly what they are going to say?

I'm definitely more of a fan of the panel shows than I am of the "Crossfire" style shows.

Have you read Zell's book, "Defecit of Decency"?

My kids got it for me for Christmas and I finished it by New Year's.

It is an awakening to the horrors of things inside the beltway.

I highly recommend it.

Zell Miller is, and always has been a true statesmen.

since you recommended oldvol, i'll take a break from maxim and go get it and read it. :biggrin2: how much does it cost.

He's been dismissed by a good many Democrats as a crazy old man, but they would do well to listen to him. The Democratic Party has become a foreign concept in a lot of places where it was once the only game in town.

Personally I am against having career polticians serving the majority of their adult life in Washington. It bores me to hear the political rhetoric so that they may keep their jobs.

I agree the 24 hours news cycle has worn people out. I used to enjoy O'Reilly and Hannity and Colmes but the same thing every night just gets old. In fact, my wife and I used to laugh because Hannity and Colmes always had a Fox News Alert every night before their show came on. FOX NEWS ALERT! It is raining in Oregon.

I enjoy the humor of Keith Olberman on Countdown and Glenn Beck who is going to be on CNN.

I think one could argue, fairly easily, that Bush is the mirror image of FDR and LBJ.

Just look at the expansion of government and spending, stacking the Supreme Court to get your social agenda through, handling of the war, etc..............it is a wonder Democrats do not love him.....

Does it bother any one else that the U.S. Government accounts for over 20% of the Gross National Product?

Olberman is sometimes entertaining, but comes off way too smug for me. He just always sounds like to me like he's thinking "I'm funnier and smarter than anybody else".

While I tend to watch Fox more than CNN, I could care less if O'Reilley went off the air tomorrow. That guy is just a pure windbag with a big ego.

Olberman's humor is unique. I relate to his humor very well. I do see your point about him being smug, he did afterall graduate from college in his teens.

His sports show of Fox was great, too bad my brother and I were the only ones who watched it.

I used to honestly love O'Reilly, but it is the same exact show over and over. Although I do love his email section at the end of the show.

You need to try Glenn Beck, if you have not already.

The problem is that too many people accept this fact as the reality of everyday life and never think about the implications of always deferring to the government to take care of things. For instance, I saw a poll today which said that 87% of Americans think thei governement isn't doing enough to keep gas prices down. That's like saying the governement isn't doing enough to keep Albert Pujols from hitting homeruns.

I've heard Glenn Beck on XM a pretty good bit. I could see him being successful on TV given that he has an offbeat style that makes him unique.

The Civil War brought about many changes in America, the absolute worse has to be the power of the central government over the states.

Well FDR and LBJ did not help that much either......

The bent of PBS is annoying. People like Bill Moyers inject their views far too often. I can make up my own mind, I don't need PBS to make it up for me.

Don't forget Olderman filled in for Paul Harvey for a while.

PBS.......Al Gore Doll Voice from the Simpsons, "You are hearing me talk....."

As opposed to Fox, CNN, and the Big Three? I'm specifically talking about Leherer's show. I don't pay any attention to the docubabbles produced by the likes of Moyers.
