Has Heupel surpassed Butch as the best post-Fulmer coach?

Imo recruiting rankings do matter, and we outplayed a bunch of 4 and 5 star players with much less talent. I am all in with Hype, even if we were to lose 2 or 3 games this year. I am still all in because I see a vast improvement with this team. And now we are already beginning to see more 4 and 5 star recruits coming to us. Hype is a great field coach.
Of course the rankings matter but they aren’t everything. And yes we did.

Fulmer is better than Majors. It's not even close. Tell again, how many championships did Majors win at UT? Majors rushed back and destroyed the 92 season. He should've been gone sooner. Fulmer was kept too long as well. But Fulmer is the better of the 2... You Majors guys are funny. Majors playbook was run, run, pass, punt.
If you want to compare championships, consider SEC trophies too. JM got his Natty at Pitt and then came home to rebuild the program. Phil took it and accomplished what Majors likely would have done sooner, and then let the wheels fall off. Running the program into the ground twice, and his backstabbing nature, counterbalance his overall record.

Majors tried to burn it down in 92. He gets no pass for that. Majors would never have won a title in the 90's with his conservative nature. The game passed him by. The game passed Fulmer by as well. But Fulmer is head and shoulders over Majors.

Never would have won a title? We can't know that either way, but he'd already come close at UT and likely could have gotten there. I don't think he was more conservative than Mr. Pound the Rock.

With the win against Bama yesterday, I think an argument could be made for Heupel being our best coach since Fulmer. However, Butch won all 3 bowl games, while Heupel is 0-1. Butch also had back to back 9 win seasons and beat Georgia, which Heupel hasn’t done. However, Butch never beat Alabama, so I’d say those two things cancel each other out. Also, both beat Florida. What do you guys think? Has Josh surpassed Butch yet, or does he need more time?

@Freak we're banning this guy, right?

Are you kidding? Seriously? Jones may very well be the WORST coach since Fulmer. Having a couple of legacy/homer classes plus Dobbs fall into his lap doesn't make him a good coach. He got some talent. if you want to give him credit for that then that's your problem. But he squandered it because he can't coach a lick.

Heupel is the opposite. He's taken fairly middling talent after inheriting a very difficult situation, developed it to pretty much its maximum capacity, and has won games he probably shouldn't have won.

A better question would be when there are enough results to call him better than Fulmer.

Surely this could not be a real question? Heupel is 1 million times better than Bert ever has thought about.
