Has Heupel surpassed Butch as the best post-Fulmer coach?

Majors won more games, rebuilt 3 programs, won more conference titles and as many national championships as Fulmer. He was a MUCH better coach than Fulmer.

For every thread mentioning Butch being closer to Fulmer, there has to be atleast 4-5 threads mentioning why Butch was the worst coach in our school’s history and that includes being worse than Dooley

I think that in time Heupel could surpass Jones. I'd want to see, though, how he squares off against a slow Big 10 team in a third tier bowl or against Vanderbilt with, say, the Sugar Bowl on the line. I'd also want to see whether he can earn the right to smoke as many TSIO cigars as Jones did.

Butch is a clown. Heupel passed him after Florida as far as prove-it games go but passed him a long time ago. Best coach we've had since Fulmer. Not even a question.

After the Bama missed FG my dad asked me if we should just take it to OT and I said absolutely not! We go win it right now! It kind of felt like the 98 Arkansas game. You just knew we wouldn’t be denied at that point.

You can not possibly be posing that as a serious question. Butch did some good recruiting for a couple of seasons, but for the most part his teams drastically underperformed. Heupel is in the midst of engineering one of the most dramatic turnarounds in SEC football history. No, he doesn't have the longevity yet, but it's clear to see that he's an offensive mastermind. When the recruits start rolling in, look out.

It may be only halfway into year two, but I am beginning to think Heupel is better than Fulmer was as a coach

Got no love for Fulmer. Yea he won a natty but should of had 2 or 3 with the talent he had. Saban beat him at lsu and sent him packing when he got to bama. Also Fulmer ran our program in the mud twice. Once on cruise control and the next as AD hiring thumb head. **** him. Thanks for the natty but no thanks for not beating UF with Manning, getting hammered by nebraska, losing to lsu in 01, doing nothing with that badass 99 team, riding Cut and Chavis coat tails. No love from me.

Even worse is that he had a year where he beat Florida and Georgia and still didn’t win the SEC East. That’s basically treason
