Has the concept of dressing professional in public service jobs been completely discarded now?

Just anecdotal, but my understanding is they only allow a franchisee to own one store (or maybe two now). That forces the franchisee to be hands-on. I’ve also been told that they require the franchisee to have a master’s degree. I have a colleague who knows an owner of one.
They do. I've heard they make rare exceptions to that rule but they only allow them to operate one store, they contractually have to be there a certain amount of hours per week, and that number isn't 20 or 30. It's at least 40. It weeds out people who are looking for a passive investment and don't want to be hands-on. Everything that they do flows down from there - they could have a great hiring program, great training program, great food, etc., but if the restaurants were run by lazy or incompetent people it wouldn't matter. Their franchisee selection process and who they end up picking to run each restaurant is their secret sauce.

Also, another big reason why their service is so good and you don't see "Help Wanted" signs at CFA is because they start people, even 16-year-old high school kids, at $15-16/hour and they get every Sunday off. You get what you pay for, including labor.

A good friend of mine who's a plant supervisor was telling me that they cant get hardly anybody to work overtime anymore, even when it pays time and a half and sometimes even double time. He said millennials and some Gen Z'ers simply value their time way more than they value money. He said this was not the case 15-20 years ago.
Yeah, overtime created a separation in the home, children growing up on their own and spouses developing relationships with co-workers instead of their significant other. I rarely work over 45 hours simply because I want my family to thrive and grow to be highly successful. I've known plenty of people that have worked their lives away die before retirement and when they die the company replace them in a heart beat without even coming to the funeral. Working that much makes rich owners and broken down employees and former employees.

I just buy dress clothes that feel like pajamas

Men have a lot fewer style options in dress clothes. Then again, the size of our clothes actually means something. I'm pretty sure ladies clothes are sized using a dart board and a blind fold. I don't even try to try to buy them for Mrs. HateSteve anymore. Gift card FTW.

You may have seen the news that it's getting hard to find employees at all. Running off the ones you do have isn't a good plan either. I see way too many small local businesses posting they're closed for the day due to lack of employees
Telling her to dress appropriately for the shop's clientele (speaking of the shirt) shouldn't run her off.

You have ridiculous expectations Karen! A part time/teenage worker at an ice cream shop and an employee of a video game shop are not expected to “dress the part”. Technically I’d say they are dressing the part. Also, I had to chuckle at the salty butch comment. Oriole are way too sensitive over profanity. Virtually everyone watches movies and listens to songs with profanity in it.
Now if you’d have went to your bank and had someone wait on you wearing a wife beater or a salty butch ****…you might have more of a gripe.
Not all of us were raised by wolves. We should, but can't, be able to go out and not have profanity thrown at us on shirts, cars and trucks, signs, etc.

That may be the most offensive this I've ever read on this site. Implying that people are raised by wolves is just unconscionable!!!! Furthermore , having been raised by Dingoes, I suggest you educate yourself on our cold weather cousins.... they try really hard.

I suppose you may have a point. I was raised by koalas myself so I have to make an effort to empathize with them.

$$$$$$$$$$. I could be wrong but I think CFA is one of the higher paying fast good places out there.
Its not JUST about money though. Its about establishing standards and expectations and holding employees accountable. When I worked retail, the company I was with had a simple philosophy. Good store = good manager, bad store = bad manager. It all starts at the top with leadership. Now, this young lady may very well have been dressed perfectly acceptable according to HER supervisor, in which case she ultimately is not to blame. Same with the guy working at Gamestop who was rocking the "beach bum" look. But I still firmly believe that how you present yourself as a representative of a company is important, no matter how "progressive" retailers want to try to be. Like I said, I didnt expect to be served by someone in a Vera Wang evening gown. But I don't think its too much to ask to not have to see profanity on someone's clothing either. Surely there's an acceptable happy medium somewhere. Lol.

My company allows unlimited OT (to an extent) and we recently hired a guy that acts like he's better than everyone because he works 50-55 hours a week. He called his 7-3 shift "silly." I just think he's a moron. Like alright man if you want a ****** QOL thats on you. I'll work my 42 hours and be happy.
