HBO's "Game of Thrones"

Yes, but after he used the dragon to destroy part of the wall, he could have crossed no matter where bran was. In the books, there was a horn that was found, that was supposed to be able to destroy the wall when it was blowed. So, they got rid of the horn and gave the NK a dragon.
I'm thinking the wall was just a physical barrier at that point. The mark on Bran is what allowed him to overcome the magic. The dragon just gave him a quick way to move his army past.

In the books I'm guessing the horn of Joramun would do both, but they never introduced that into the tv show. The NK's mark on Bran is what allowed him to bypass magic blocking his movement.

You are correct. He did die before the NK rose the dead.

Maybe he couldn't be brought back because of the spells used to bring him back before?

that was a theory I had; that or they just didn't bother to have the scene. Given the fight between the Hound and he earlier I thought it would be a good rematch though neither of them would want a flaming sword involved...

There would have been no Jorah to save Dany if he hadn’t gone outside Citadel protocol to treat his Grayscale. Without his oratory, I doubt Jon wins the Nightwatch...and the ensuing alliance with the Wildlings. He’s brilliant...and sucks as a warrior (as his father delicately pointed out). In modern times he’d be a power player in government.
Yes, but why is he being kept alive for the final battle?

His job up to this point was to support Jon and Jorah. In some possible future, he’d have a role serving the new king/queen.

But I think there will be some plot twist out of nowhere in the last two episodes that will require his gifts for the good guys (or humanity) to win. IMO JMO TIFWIW TWSS MPH BBQ

He's probably going to get a dragon anyway, that or Euron will with his horn

I had a gripe with the wights laying on the trenches to put the fire out. Everytime a wight came as close to breathing an ember in they would go up in a blaze of glory. But now they can just walk of to a fire trench and have twelve of them out it out?
Yeah...I have to agree with that one.

It's got to suck to be so hard to please, but I guess my turn is coming next when all my favorite characters pointlessly die just to satisfy y'alls weird nihilist need for utter hopeless devastation. I don't know why you are all griping, it's gonna suck for us hopeful types in the end....you know the ones that actually like seeing the white hats win...especially since the good guys have already suffered so much horrific loss for 9 freakin years.

Ok, question: why is Sam (and Gilly, to some extent) alive?

He would have been a great “Aww, dang” death, but there he was, endangering his friends who had to rescue him while groveling on the ground.

The only thing that he brings to the final showdown is his brains and knowledge. Other than him pointing out the diary passage about the annulment, which anyone could do, what special role does he play?

Something is going to happen in E5 that will require maester knowledge. More supernatural critters? The Mountain plus perhaps a yet-unseen mountain range of additional Cersei zombies?

There were too many shots of him writhing under wights with good guys saving him to be just a background character for the rest of the season.

It’s quiet... Too quiet...
Sam is the one who ends up writing the story..you know "The Song of Ice and Fire"...dang you people are blind. 😏

I don’t get why Everyone is so disappointed in the lack of death. We lost the night king and he was the biggest bad guy.

Of everything that happened last night, I was most happy/pleased with Theon getting the chance to redeem himself and he went out in a blaze of glory. He did a lot wrong, but for everything that Ramsey put him through, then having to prove himself again to the Ironborn, he got a fitting finale. He got to come full circle.

The greatest living army of that worlds history was just completely obliterated by the zombie ocean of death...and freaky people are bitching because characters who have suffered already titanic losses throughout this series did not die...crazy.

there might be a few that will still die but everyone that watches the show has to admit. All of the main characters that have lived, are survivors. Most don't like Sam but he is a survivor. He would have never made it back to the wall if he wasn't.

The thing that disappoints me about Sam's character. He lost a lot of his weight and kind of grew up in the book during his time beyond the wall. And, in the show he's still uncertain of himself.

Visually and audibly, the episode was great.

Dragon fight, fire swords, dark chaos, etc were all great.

The plot kinda sucked.

I was hyped when Arya killed NK and was at the edge of my seat the whole episode. But it was all so hollow and inconsequential looking back. Really had to suspend disbelief a few times (Dothraki death & Lyanna vs. Giant scenes).

The offensive strategy was dumb. You can wait 8000 years; wait an hour longer for the job to be finished? No WW attacks at all? So what if they die and their armies die with them. The NK could just revive the wights.
The defensive strategy was dumb. Send your insanely skilled cavalry into a death trap? Put artillery in front of infantry? Only 1 baby moat? Only use archers for 5 seconds and after the cavalry charge?
No major character deaths? Dany/Jon/Sansa/Tyrion/Varys/Missandei/Grey Worm/Arya/Hound/Jaime/Brienne? All should've died at some point. I'm fine with a few escapes, but for all of them to escape was a bit ridiculous. Edd, Lyanna, Beric, Melisandre, Theon (semi-major death), and Jorah (semi-major) don't count as major deaths.

Bran warging was for nothing apparently. The NK already knew he was there. His whole plot has kind of been wasted now.

WW did nothing. No sword fights with anyone. Wasted.

Tyrion/Sansa/Varys could have had some intelligent dialogue...Nope. I did enjoy the marriage jokes, but I wanted more. Tyrion has been wasted for seasons now.

NK was arrogant and rushed in instead of using his horde fully. Wasted.

Not mad that Arya killed the NK, but it felt hollow.

Would've liked to see Jon vs NK before Arya killed him after years of their build up. Wasted.

Or Bran and NK interacting in some way would've been nice. Just blank stares? Wasted.

We've been built up for this being the real enemy for 7 seasons...Nope! Wasted. Cersei is the real enemy now.

How convenient.

It was just a letdown for the penultimate conflict/battle/important episode of the series.

I don't really care about Cersei. They're going to kill her and Jon/Dany will rule now.

Fairy tale ensues.

But we aren't watching ASOIAF. We haven't been since seasons 4/5. This is now GoT.

It was a great episode for TV. It was a lackluster GoT episode.
GRRM has a lot to do with all this. His failure to finish the books failed to give D&D a roadmap so they just ran with whatever they thought of.

He was doing better before last night. He regressed, but at least he was out there trying. Before, when he first arrived at the Wall, he would have been hiding in a hole somwhere during a battle like that.

It would be crazy and fitting if after the last battle when Cersei is defeated and good has triumphed, the Night King takes over Bran through his connection to him and raises all the fallen dead and kills everyone.

Either that or Bran does it himself to return Westeros to how it was when the Children Of The Forest were the only ones there
