Also that is just it, Jon was one of the most complex people in the story, or at least just as complex as anybody. In the end he was just a tortured soul...Killing him off would have been a mercy, but I think him walking away from it all suits his arc better. He had done enough and lost enough.

In case you missed it, GoT was a tragedy. Not a comedy, not a fairy tale, but very much a drama centered around tragic event after tragic event. JMO, but having Jon become a martyr would have fit storywise. It also would have shown how much he was like Ned, the man who raised him as his own. It would have been a contrast to who he was born. In the end, Jon was more Stark than Targaryen, IMO.

It would not have been a "Happy fairy tale" it would have suited him better. I totally 100% disagree with you that beheading him would have served any purpose and would have made all the R+L=J crap mean even less. He doesn't need to be a dead martyr, he already is a living one. He already got murdered once for saving people, no need to do it again.

Besides, even if we disagree on GoT, that doesn't mean I don't like you. I just think you're a little unreasonable at times.

And I think watching Jon and GW go Samurai on each other would have been awesome...And I think Jon telling them to "Take your crown and shove it, I'm goin ice fishin, polar bear humpin and drinkin Natty Ice with Tormund till the end of my wretched days" would have been even awesomer.
