This season is a definite departure from the first season. However, I am really enjoying the noir aspect of it so far. Think this cast are really solid as well.

Slow start but season 1 was the same; it will be difficult not to constantly compare the two moving forward, even though they stand apart from each other. I suspect Colin Ferrell is going to kill it in this; his character is an absolute train wreck and is already entertaining to watch

If the CHP guy is on leave why would he be assigned that case? Would they have not told him just to go home after they showed up at the scene?

I agree. The scene where he was beating the kids dad down was just brutal.

I would be very surprised if they found a way to keep him alive, but it is worth noting that on the "On the next True Detective" thing they referred to him as "getting shot" instead of getting killed.
