HBO's True Detective

I'm almost certain (99.999%) that Velcoro is alive. I think he was shot with non-lethal bullets to send a message that he needs to not get any ideas about solving the case. JMO.

I have a group of buddies and we all watch this show, I'm going to post my analysis I just sent to them. Feedback is very welcome:

Basically I need this season to take a new direction, and quickly. I like Vince Vaughn's character a lot. I actually like each individual character. But the problem is I could care less who killed Casper. I'm losing interest in the main plot line rapidly. And I'm pretty much living these episodes for the last 10 minutes every time, and not really enjoying the first 50 minutes of the episode. Need some crazy events to go down soon, and for things to take a crazy turn. Also, I believe they have wayyy overcomplicated things. You can't just throw 100 names at us without explaining who anyone is. They need to simplify the storyline and get rid of the excess names and irrelevant characters.

Pretty much dead on. The first season was going to be near impossible to top or even come close but they're off the mark so far.

I'm still more than willing to give it a shot for the whole season though...

This season makes me think about The Wire. Lots of names, lots of corruption, everybody has dirt, everybody has an angle.....

My hope is when it's all said and done, we'll look back and see how everything built up to the conclusion just right.

I don't disagree with you on this. The last two episodes seriously could have been condensed into the last 10 minutes of each episode, totaling 20 minutes altogether. I think the problem is there are too many lead characters in the show. Vince Vaughn up until the end of this episode has been nothing more than a whining, boring character. I'm over Taylor Kitsch's constantly brooding character. If they intend on dragging out his attitude for the remainder of the series I'd just assume skip it. I don't even feel like discussing the inevitable gay scenes that are likely to develop from his clearly closeted character either. Rachel McAdams is attractive but her character is about as entertaining as a morning fart. I'll chock these last few episodes up as character building, despite these characters having very little depth from the start, and hope that this gets better than it is now.

Frank just doesn't have that many interesting interactions - his wife is a terrible character so far and the actress is pretty annoying. There are a few scenes like the shakedown, the bar scenes wth Ray, and the brawl where he kills it. Ray and Bezzarides are pretty good characters, though I hope the cult thing plays a bigger role. I liked Paul a lot until last episode - unless his sexuality is important they're just beating us over the head with it. And we already knew that he's traumatized from his service.

Didn't you get the memo. A sodomite story line is now mandatory in all TV shows.
