I think by the end, true detective will be better. But who knows.

Could you then explain to me just what and/or who "John" actually was? I can't for the life of me figure it out. I stopped watching about midway through, so maybe that was explained...

Not sure. Maybe an angel. I remember catch phrases from that show more than anything else. I'm not sure they knew where they were going with it.

Im not sure I finished deadwood. I saw the first two seasons of Boardwalk. I watched the first two or three of true blood before it started getting too weird for me.

This season of true detective has been one of the worst seasons of anything I've watched on HBO. Are there worse seasons of HBO series out there? Sure. I don't watch everything they put out.

Why do I keep watching? Because the first season was awesome and it didn't really pick up steam til mid way thru so I'm hoping this season does the same.

Honestly I think because it's TD it's actually probably getting more of a benefit of the doubt. If this had just been an entirely different show and not TD Season 2, I think the consensus is this is a run of the mill whodunit.

That leads me to the the next problem I have, which is at this point I can't say I really care that much whodunit.

This! I've done this for literally 3 or 4 episodes.

I'm going to have to agree. It is probably one of the more boring shows I've seen.

Even when True Blood was bad it was still entertaining to watch, this show isn't until the last 10 minutes every episode.

It'd be a huge flop and there wouldn't even be a thread about this show if this were the first season.

No. Was just listing some I've seen and they're all better than this season of true detective. I've seen a few others I'm sure. That was just a list of shows I have seen. No order. But I see where you're coming from. That would be interesting if it was.

Game of thrones transcends genre stereotypes; it's an incredible show.

I heard a pretty good description of this season of TD on the radio this morning:

"It's like your favorite restaurant switched to a vegetarian restaurant but kept the same name."

I like that, but if that were true, that restaurant wouldn't be lucky enough to have me visit even once.

Can you you really be into it anymore than any other audience member watching it by now? I'm not going to take a poll but I'd bet the majority of the people in this thread are enjoying it about as much as I am(which is very little). It only has 3 episodes left so I'll bore myself for another two and hope the finale is good.

Here is a funny thought that crossed my mind the other day when commenting in this thread though. What if hardly anything happens in this show in it's conclusion? If the ending sucks about as much as the rest of the season has I'm probably going to laugh because it'll be nobody else's fault but my own for sticking with it and hoping it suddenly has a great ending.

I think I enjoyed this episode as a whole more than I have any other this season. It's a shame that more of the episodes this season haven't been as engaging.

I haven't watched any of the 2nd season yet, and after reading some of these posts, I'm not sure I want to start. Is it really that bad/waste of time?

If you compare it to Season 1, it's worse. If you compare it to the average television show, not at all.

I wouldn't say it's a waste of time either way; it's definitely not anywhere near that level of bad. It being "bad" is pretty relative.

I would guess that I am. I like it. I don't compare it to season 1 at all, and I think that's everyone's problem.

I probably differ from everyone in here in that I've watched all the episodes twice (except the latest one).

Well when "everyone" is doing it, then I don't think they are the ones with the problem.

Plus common sense would tell you obviously it was going to be compared to last season, and of course there's always the possibility that it just might not be as good as last season.
