HBO's True Detective

Why are people butthurt that I don't agree with them that this season is terrible?

"the one with the problem" lol

Well you just said everyone ELSE had the problem because they were comparing it to season 1, and I think that's a ridiculous statement.

I didn't say "the" and I didn't mean it like there is an actual issue. I didn't mean to make you defensive.

You made it sound like if everyone didn't compare it to last season, then they'd like it a lot more. I'm saying I don't think it's a simple as that. Obviously that is a big issue, but then again, of course people are going to compare it to Season 1.

I think judged on its own it's still not great.

I've enjoyed this season. I think it's very unlike Season 1, but not as good IMO. It's hard to compare the two, in part because they're not linked by the storyline. But I've still looked forward to each episode every week.

How the season ends will affect my overall impression of the season as a whole.

The story line and dialogue just haven't been very engaging this season, couple that with some fairly awful characters(I don't want to bash the actors because I don't think it's all on them) and you've got what's pretty much been a boring train wreck for the most part.

In comparison to the first season the focus was only on two main characters so I think that helps with a show like this. Were there boring scenes and episodes in the first one? Absolutely. The different was that MM and WH carried the show through those times with their acting. The other difference was the story line was cohesive, mysterious, and engaging.

I haven't seen season 1.

I have enjoyed this season but with that said, some parts seem to drag which slows down the pace of the show.

The writing is the weakest link to this season. The actors are all pretty good (Vaughn is getting better, Kitsch is decent besides those atrocious scenes with his mom), but it seems like every character is, in the words of Marty, saying odd s***. Like "pure gold" or "blue balls in my heart". And none of the other characters are written to ground them like with Rust in S1.

The directing is OK, but it would have benefitted the show if one director took the whole season like Fukunaga did last year. Lin isn't amazing, but his episodes were the best stylistically this season.

I need to finish season one of this. I got it for Christmas last year and watched the first 4-5 episodes, and love it. I just haven't had the time, and have been watching other stuff.

Also recently got HBO so I can watch season 2.

I dont get some of the writing. Vaughn says "Khe Sanh mother*******" to some asian dude..I was like what the? I still don't get that reference even if the dude was Vietnamese.

5 seasons into Game of Thrones, the greatest show of all time, every year I hope the finale is going to be longer. Every year I am disappointed.

I think this season of TD is awful, and of course it gets an hour and a half finale.

Sorry to be a post whore, but Season 2 has been utterly confusing and drawn out, but these last three episodes or so have drawn me in. It took a while, but I'm really looking forward to the finale now.

I figured some people don't like it because it is hard to keep up with, but almost nobody seems to be complaining about that aspect of it. I've now watched every episode twice (I stream while I work, so I watch and re-watch tons of content) so I have a pretty thorough understanding of everything.

Like first time through I couldn't even remember how the blue diamonds initially came into play.

Yeah. I almost wish I had waited until the season was over and binge watched the while season like a movie. That would have helped.

I wasn't really paying attention during the discussions about the diamond robbery in previous episodes. Turns out it's absolutely central to the plot, and the orphaned kid is likely our Birdman.

That was a better episode but the good parts were sandwiched in between scenes of terrible dialouge and almost as bad acting. I tried to care about Wooden Boy but I just didn't.
