Heated exchange between Nick Saban and Paul Finebaum

He answered Finebaum's 1st question. Finebaum asked a follow-up (essentially the same question), which Saban also answered. Following that answer, he made it clear that he was not going to answer any further questions on the subject. Again, how is that "above answering questions?" Or do you mean that he acted like he was above answering a third version of the same question?

I'm already bored with this.
You're being a fan and supporting him so I don't begrudge you that. Other coaches sit through these interviews.
They answer the questions no matter how many times they are asked or they deflect politely, they don't act the way he did or refuse.

Repeat, unless some new amazing turn of events has happened that I'm unaware of, other coaches deal with the tough questions instead of acting like they don't have to. It's part of what they're paid for.
I think Saban is great as a coach and a recruiter, but he has a serious arrogance issue. I don't care how much you deny.

So the problem isn't that he acts like he's "above answering questions", it's that he's rude when he doesn't want to keep answering the same question until the media is done asking it.

Never mind. We're back to him asking like he doesn't have to answer a question despite the fact that he answered it twice.

Yeah and most people would understand that becoming rude instead of dealing with it like every other coach, is the definition of acting like he's above it.
If that finally sets in, I'll continue the discussion. Until then converse with yourself.

So now we're going with "he's above repeating the same question-and-answer."

I agree that he acts that way.

Because he bought it? I'm not understanding how that qualifies as an "important question".

I should have been more clear.

I'm not talking about it in a strictly legal sense. If that's all you want to look at, sure, its legal. Nothing to see here.

Why he has it, I think, is important. Does he like guns? Enjoy shooting? Have legit training? Fantastic. Follow the laws (and campus rules) and enjoy your pistol. Or, is he scared of something and trying to protect himself? Take a look around, not the best culture to be toting a hot pistol around in right now...

I guess I meant it more as a question of culture and training young men. It was legal for me to have a gun at 20 years old when I was at UT, but I had ZERO business with one.

Like you said, why was he in a place or with people that he felt he needed to be carrying? Why be there? If its that dangerous, stay the hell out. I just thought it was a place where a better statement could have been made by Saban and UA. That's all.

Serious Question: Is anyone who thinks rationally (which eliminates the Bama posters in this particular topic) really surprised that 1.) Saban isn't suspending one of his star players for a top tier game in USC? and 2.) The DA mysteriously dropped charges and gave some roundabout reasoning for doing so?

If the rule in Bama is that you are 100% innocent if no charges are filed or you are acquitted, would Saban let OJ babysit his kids/grandkids?

Ah yes, because there is logical comparison between a couple of college students accused of a completely non-violent crime and a double-murderer who almost decapitated his wife while his kids were inside asleep.

I thought finebaum did his job asking the question saban did his by defending his player and actions. I think those 2 guys should be suspended but a football team is a family and nobody gets to pick on his guys but him. I was actually shocked finebaum went after Freeze and wouldn't allow him to sidestep those questions. He then basically said Freeze contradicted his own story.

I'd be willing to bet that the DA in Monroe isn't a bama fan..................

Legally, yes they are 100% innocent if not prosecuted. Just like it isn't a penalty if they don't throw the flag. Regardless of what you saw on the field. Why are you struggling with simple concepts?

Accountability to the team and changed behavior is what they are not innocent of and they are at this moment in time..............................rehabbing

Relax, Saban's got this one.

Anyone who thinks Saban's response was worse than Mullen's is either incredibly biased or incredibly dumb.

I didn't say anything about the answer. I'm talking (and you know it) about how they each treated the person asking the damned question.

You using this to get into a screed on gun control is why you need to take it to the Politics Board. This situation is a terrible example to attempt to highlight your talking points.

Actually you have no clue on my thoughts on the political aspect of this. Don't assume.

Like I said I just found the fact that we had this heated exchange with the comments made by what most consider the top college football coach in the nation on the same day as the award / comments on the ESPYs somewhat ironic.

Mullen gave one of the worst answers possible.

Saban treated Finebaum like the worm he is and gave a real answer

The quality of the answer has absolutely nothing to do with my post. I'm talking about how he treats people who ask him questions about things he doesn't want to talk about. He's a damned bully and a POS.
Mullen's answer was bad. But he at least acted like an adult while answering.

Well, speaking as a member of the media, if I have one guy who answers my questions like a jerk, and one guy who comes off as the nicest guy in the world while he A) gives me a bull**** response putting the responsibility for his decision on the school and B) indicates that a woman put herself in the situation where she was knocked to the ground and punched by a 300+ pounder, take a wild guess guess as to which one I'm going to rip.

I don't give a flying **** what kind of attitude Saban copped with Finebaum, his response was not even in the same vile universe as Mullen's.

Whoa. You called OJ a double murderer. He was acquitted, remember? Use that logic thing you quoted.

My point is...simply because charges were mysteriously dropped does not mean the players should avoid all accountability. Saban seems to think so. His reasoning is flawed. He preaches about fixing the young men but doesn't want them being held accountable.

I respect the fact that Saban shut down that d-bag Finebaum, but he's still a dirty little d-bag himself who values winning above the future of his players.

Relax, Saban's got this one.

Legally, they are Not Guilty. There is a difference in the legal definitions of the two terms. Simple concept.

Surely you and your bammer brethren can understand the sensitivity of the situation. Saban gets into it while defending players who were in possession of a stolen gun and illegal substances. The same day that a Tennessee native high schooler was being honored after being killed with gun violence. I doubt the Bama players planned on shooting empty soda cans down by the crick in their leisure time.

That's why I stated you can't be rational. Your fandom and borderline worship of Saban clouds your judgement.

So any punishment short of suspension means they aren't being held accountable?

You're part of the bow down and take his $hit part of the media I see. He's a prick period and a bully. Any other coach acting like that and you and the rest of your cousin kissing fans would call that coach out.

Holding Mullen up as a symbol of grace under pressure after this week...

I hope to God you are trolling, because the alternative is that you are painfully stupid.

You can't just fire elected officials.

If Robinson had any reason to know the gun was stolen, I agree. But there has been nothing from LA or AL authorities that suggests that he did. As such, it's weed and no one is getting suspended for weed.

Elected officials can get fired... impeached or ousted however you want to phrase it. Just like when elected officials have gotten caught doing illegal things themselves.

Words convey thoughts, knock yourself out with the semantics. A whole lot of righteous indignation for something that can't get you past the threshold of hearsay. Amazing the amount of facts you've been able to accumulate with nothing but second and third-hand information. It's almost as if you had a rooting interest in the outcome. Talk about strong emotions that can cloud your judgement.

So any punishment short of suspension means they aren't being held accountable?

When they choose a highly public career path such a playing football at Bama and then are involved in a highly public arrest, yes the accountability needs to be visible to the public and not "Say sorry to your teammates" or write "I will not carry stolen firearms and use illegal substances" 100 times on the blackboard.

C'mon BW, you are supposedly in the media. I realize you are a Bama homer, but try to look at the situation impartially for a moment. If this was Auburn you'd be ripping them to shreds.

Yeah, there is no way to know they knew it was stolen, because there is such a lack of gun stores in America, most people buy their guns from random strangers.

I guess now I know what Saban meant when he said ' We need everyone pulling in the same direction' when he took the job. He meant local writers such as yourself, district attorney, police etc "helping" the team out.
