Correct me if I'm wrong but weren't we an RPO spread team strictly under golesh that now plays basic spread

WRs aren’t getting separation either consistently. When they do they’re dropping the ball. Squirrel had a decent game tonight. Bru is good but he’s not elite. None of our other guys get consistent separation and catch the ball when it hits them in the hands.
That drop by Donte was huge. He hasn’t dropped the ball like he did last year but really needed that one in the first half.

Offense didn’t matter tonight. By the second half, they had our
defense figured out. They could have scored on their next 5 possessions
if the game had continued. Exploit the lb’s and db’s with their 4 te’s

I know the majority of the fan base doesn’t want to hear this but he has to go find a QB that can run this offense or he has to change his style.

This.

Currently, Nico is still an experiment in this offense, which is still not running in the up tempo process that was successful in 2022, not moving down the field consistently, not much of a big play threat against comparable/better defensive talent,, McIntyre will be here next year as well and that might be the better approach, particularly if Heupel isn't bringing a talented quarterback coach into the mix, he futzed around with Milton forever with no significant development/improvement and now Nico is playing ok, up and down, good plays/bad plays, but demonstrates many of the same struggling characteristics that Milton demonstrated for years (i.e. staring down the primary receiver, holding the ball too long, mental errors with down, distance and time on the clock)

Milton never made the necessary steps forward and expected improvements, Nico has regressed from Citrus Bowl MVP status, been hit harder this year than anyone expected,

Heupel needs coaching help at the OL spot, needs a true offensive coordinator with SEC experience, the secondary spot, the WR spot, current coaches are all tireless recruiters, but I'm not sure there is an SEC savant or rising SEC coaching star on the staff, a capable quarterback coach that can support the challenges younger quarterbacks face would be helpfull,

Did anyone watch the f$&@ing game?
The offensive play calling wasn’t the problem, the lack of pressure by our D-line was.
Agree to a certain extent. But our offense didn’t score in the second half. Zero points. And only scored 17 for the game. No SEC team will win many games scoring 17 points.

I agree
I don’t think it’s all on the play caller either. Without receivers that get separation and a qb that can throw an accurate deep ball, we have no deep threat. Your not gonna dink and dunk your way to a win in Athens at night

Heuple cannot keep on holding onto this STRICTLY VANILLA CALLING wannabe OC. This is unacceptable to all VOL fans and to the university. Do yourself a favor, give him whatever money is in his contract and go get a great OC. I posted earlier this week that it would come down who could call a better game..........and I was right. Bobo beat Halzle, and almost every other offensive , defensive coach. Our special teams were the only coaches that did their job tonight. You will never have a SEC championship , let alone any other championship until you get rid of him. To all Vol fans, until we realize this, and more importantly, Heupel realizes it, Tennessee will not win another championship with him as an OC.
Offense hasn't changed. Only the players running it. People fail to realize how fast Hyatt was. All he had to do was run past defenders.

This spread out vertical attack sucks with this wr Corp. We need to use the middle of the field more and their quick passes that aren't 30 yards to the sideline for a 2 yard gain

I think the biggest problem is that pope can't assess or develop wide receivers and Elarbee can't develop linemen.

The play calling isn't bad and I am not as down on Nico as some in this thread seem to be. He is getting better every single game. I also see some stuff in our passing concepts that I find to be pretty weird and rudimentary.

And yeah Heup is the primary playcaller, but he is relying on Halzle in the box to read the defense and personnel.

This is going to be hard for heupel to do. It sounds easy but finding a replacement who he can trust and who knows his system to the "T" isn't easy.

Now on the contrary it should be done and heupel will have to decide if he wants to be a greatest of all time coach and make super mean decisions to his friends feelings. He will have to be Stoops here. I know he hates to face that too

CJH was fired at OK as OC due to lack of production. He was an amazing QB who builds a system designed for great QB but the fact is we don’t have one. He is unable to design a system that is built around a mediocre QB which is what Milton and Nico are. Neither are accurate at all and throw with no touch and too high most times. If it wasn’t for Sampson finding holes abs having a video game spin move this O would be even worse. You cannot win a game against top teams when your QB cannot hit a single pass behind 20 yards atkeast once a game. The had zero respect for his deep passes and kept blitzing with zero fear. Just sad to watch all around and gives little hope for next year and beyond of getting better than a 2 loss team.

Heupel tells what plays we are running but Halzle is the OC. Heupel calls the plays to the team and signal guys, but Halzle radios them down from up top. This is why a lot of fans who think heupel is calling the plays are confused!

Heupel calls the plays, but Halzle is the OC largely responsible for making our offense crisp and efficient at practice. It’s clearly not translating like it did with Golesh.

I completely disagree about Nico being mediocre. He played really well tonight with very little help around him. Nico is a young pup who will only get better, but he has the poise, arm strength/accuracy, and athleticism to be great going forward. We need to realize a good thing when it’s standing in front of us.

Bad need a QB that can motor it. Nico can't do that. There's a difference between a running QB and a QB that has the ability to pickup 5 yards. We need a threat in this offense.

Golesh has not exactly been burning it up at USF. Also Heupel had many years of great offenses before Golesh ever worked for him. Golesh wasn’t the secret sauce. Hendon was.

Heupels track record as a play caller is elite.
