Heupel Says Nico Good to Go in Current Presser

Being polite, Gaston Moore was a zero star recruit in 2020.

If Josh Heupel doesn't take the UT job, Gaston Moore never wears an SEC uniform. I'm sure he's a gamer and I'm sure he knows the offense backwards and forwards. I'm also reasonably sure that like me, he's not blessed with elite athletic skills like most starting SEC QBs.
Peyton Manning wasn’t blessed with elite athletic skills. All I am saying is saying Gaston can’t run it’s because we really haven’t seen him run is disingenuous. Moore doesn’t have to be an elite runner to be effective. And also, what does his start ranking from 4 years again have to do with anything?

Maybe too optimistic, but while Gaston will not be able to make some of the plays Nico can make, maybe he won't make as many mistakes either. Saturday may be one of those slobber knocker 17-10 type games with the deciding score being a pick six. Maybe the best "game manager" wins! GBO

We could argue that 3 stars might be 4 stars might be 5 stars, but zero stars is what it is. It's unlikely that he's progressed to a true SEC level starter from there.

You are welcome to believe Gaston Moore isn't a very significant drop off from Nico. I get wanting to put orange tinted glasses because we need the win in GA and Moore may be the starter, but I hope, and I bet you hope, we're not in a position where we need Gaston Moore to run very often on GA to "keep the defense honest."

Now that ESPN is reporting concussion symptoms, I’ll add that I heard he was nauseous during halftime of the MSU game and had upper back and neck pain from the hard landing. They sat him out of caution, and he went in for further examination on Sunday. He was in all the meetings today and dressed for routes on air. Tomorrow is the first day in (closed) practice. I have not heard any results from Sunday (and won’t) but he’s definitely showing up for meetings like he’s going to play. That said, if he had concussion symptoms on Sunday, the recovery protocol will keep him out of the game.
If he had displayed symptoms, is seriously doubt he would be allowed to dress for practice or even show up to meetings.

Obviously, Carson Beck is no Stetson Bennett. I think all of us felt pretty good about Nico vs Beck if it came down to a positional game. And I STILL think Beck is going to throw some balls that are not just 50-50 but 70-30 our way. He's not a great decision maker.

If Gaston Moore starts I'll be rooting for him to have the "backup QB game of his life" we normally see against us.

Also, the "brain bleed" tweet about Nico was apparently from a troll account. If it were a bleed I think we'd not have seen Nico walking out after the game, nor would he be "with us" as Heupel said. He'd be inpatient.

I never said he wasn’t a significant drop off from Nico. Jesus dude can you not read? My original point was how does anyone know Gaston can’t run? You don’t know. Neither do I nor anyone else on this board. That’s the point.

Also, if Nico doesn’t play against UGA, it will be an extremely ugly loss. We may not even score.

By that logic, I don't even know Nico can run except from what we've seen in games, nor Merk, nor anyone. What we've seen of Gaston running isn't impressive. But sure, if you want to win that "no one here knows," you can always win that. That's hardly worth mentioning. What we've seen or heard from those who see practice indicates Gaston Moore's speed isn't anything to remark about.

I think Beck being off is our best bet for a win even with Nico starting. I'm not convinced either team can "take it" and the maxim "The team that makes the fewest mistakes will win."

So you want the 2nd string QB to run, when the starter is hurt?
In a game of this magnitude yes you do it because taking shots is your best way. Especially if Nicos injury is what we think it is he should absolutely be able to return for UTEP and if not for Vanderbilt. If it was a second tier team I agree you keep your QB2 in a bubble but one big play could decide this game and if that means putting more qb plays in harms way so be it.

Beck has been a turnover machine of late, let's hope that trend continues. In the small sample size we've seen of Moore, he looks like he can run the offense, so hopefully no delay of game, waste a TO, collide with the RB in handoff moments. And he throws a deep ball our WR's can run under. Lean on the running game and stay with pass plays he can make. In that 2nd half on Saturday, maybe it was just good play by the OL or stone cold luck but he appeared to have good pocket presence or as we say on VN pocket presents, no panic, no sacks. I'll be happy if he makes the plays that are there and every possession we have ends in a kick.

The good thing about this week vs last week is if Moore IS definitely starting he'll have had more time to wrap his head around the job ahead. Coming in off an injury sucks vs knowing you're the man.

About that every possession ends in a kick, a punt is a kick too so let's say a kick with a holder.

How do you know he can’t run?
Thus far he has not shown a penchant for it in his limited snaps the past 4 years or his high school career maybe he is a secret scrambler extraordinare..but no ones seen it on tape yet. So youre right I dont know for a fact. I can however say there is no evidence out there to refute my assertion. None zero zilch.

The not-so-good at quarterback gameplan?
Yeah. You do more run blitzes. You don’t worry about utilizing a spy very often because you know that the qb won’t run. Etc.

Just because a qb is bad doesn’t mean you don’t adjust the game plan to capitalize on that weakness. It’d be coaching malpractice not to, especially in a game this important.

Indeed, I would think so as well. My son got a concussion when he and his brother were jumping off their top bunk onto a bean bag chair. The 6 year old missed the bean bag and hit the floor. He was concussed - knocked out cold for about 10 seconds vomiting, couldn’t stay awake, etc- pediatrician said to go to ER.
Vanderbilt Children’s did a CT and before the scan they let us know they were very concerned it would be a brain bleed. If so, he would need to stay at least overnight.

Point is, a brain bleed is dangerous. If he’d had those kind of symptoms or they thought it was a bleed, he would have been taken to the hospital immediately. Highly doubt his parents would have even let him be on campus at all for a few days, much less dressing for football practice.

Parental Disclaimer: We did not know they were playing stuntman up in their room.

I don’t know what colony of Dunning Kruger victims you escaped from, but no one was requesting your top secret gameplan. The statement was sarcasm, specifically aimed at pointing out that Gaston is not a D1 athlete, and doesn’t require the kind of attention that a gifted runner might. They’ll prepare for Nico and then high-five each other if he doesn’t play. No team spies Nico because he isn’t a running quarterback. If they spy Gaston less than Nico, they will be doing so at a frequency less than zero.

Oh no. I got your sarcasm. It was just dumb and supporting a bad take. I don’t know who pissed in your cheerios this morning, but clearly you’ve confused having some extra information with actually knowing something. Just stick to bringing the info because your opinions are ill informed and your personality is grating.

And the bolded is just blatantly untrue. Teams absolutely spy him. They don’t do it every play like he’s the kid from A&M but they do spy him with regularity. They’d spy Gaston too in certain situations, but different situations because the times they might hurt you with a run are different. Which was pretty much all the other poster was trying to say before you jumped him for no reason too.

It’s probably double secret spying that special guys like you know about. I should’ve purchased the decoder ring.

lol. Look, I don’t know why you decided to be the internet tough guy this morning, but you’re being an ass. It feels like you do this every so often.

We all appreciate that you have low enough self esteem to violate kids’ privacy for internet points but don’t get confused and think that we actually like you. We just tolerate the rest of your crap 90% of the time.

If Moore gets the start I still think we can win as long as the defense shows up but offensive coaching will need to be more creative. If we're going to do those sideline throws we need to be in a hurry up offense, they seem to be more effect than when breaking huddle.

We've seen Moore air it out, if it's there take it but I think we need to utilize the TE's more and have them come across the middle, like to see some Jet Sweeps ran, QB pull option where he tossed back to the RB if needed, I'm not opposed to seeing two Backs, in the back field, some end arounds with our WR. I think we need to have a few misdirection plays

Defense needs to rattle and hit Beck and keep him rattled but not taken out of the game, we don't need the dreaded backup becomes a Heisman course to happen😎
