Dude go put your Georgia jersey on and root for them then. Your logic makes no sense and I never pull for our rivals especially Georgia. SEC SEC SEC my ass where exactly has that gotten us in the past. Go Buckeyes! Go Wolverines and Horn Frogs and efff Georgia. So if GA beats OSU and then Mich in beat downs you don't think we will end up higher in the FINAL polls? Where you end up in the final rankings is the ONLY thing people will remember down the road. Go look up where you were ranked before the final polls for 2017 and see howm many hits that has taken, You really don't think finishing higher in the last polls will not help UT in recruiting in the portal and late signing period and especially next cycle? We could then play the "we were robbed card" with some level of merit if GA pummels them, instead of the Herbie narrative that the Big 10 has surpassed the SEC as the dominant conference just as the polls show. The writers are already working on those accounts. Like I said I will hold my nose and pull for them THIS WEEK, then pull for us and anybody in the conference to put a beat down on them next fall. Or anybody else if it helps us pass them in the history books. I see a lot to gain by finishing way up the polls with guys our staff has targeted to add to our team and GA is the key to get there right now. I don't want to sacrifice those opportunities just hate on GA or any other team. The fact it also bolsters the whole conference is just a bonus.
I would pull for a team consisting of history’s greatest villains against Georgia in this year’s playoff. They already talk like they are NFL Super Bowl champs (forget college). Can you imagine how insufferable they will be if they win a second’s championship in a row?Agree with you Gunters, I despise GA but I cannot pull for OSU against any SEC team. And I will pull for GA if they play Mich. But if TCU makes the final I would rather see them win over OSU and may very well pull for them against GA.
Then you’re ignorant on recruiting.I don't understand the thinking that if you pull for another SEC team in a bowl game then your not a Vol fan. Now I can understand not pulling for rivals but I don't see how a GA loss to a Big10 team helps TN. A TN win in the Orange Bowl will have more effect on the ranking to start next season over a GA win/loss.
This is how Im looking at it too. Stop GA before they become the next dynasty. Every natl championship they dont win helps usWe recruit harder against GA.. Kirby with a bunch of Sabenesque Natty rings won't help that. And if they get beat by "an inferior team" it gives us gunpowder to recruit against them down the road. Come on guys, think outside the box!!!
Do you guys who root for the SEC really want Kirby to repeat? How does that help us in recruiting or making up ground against Georgia? Go Buckeyes I hope they clean Georgia’s clock
If Georgia wins, it only hurts Tennessee. They are a direct rival and we must recruit against them. Who do you want to play for, a top 4 team, or a team where you are guaranteed a ring. Never pull for uga or bama.
My thought process is this: our offensive line was making first round picks (Anderson, Ojulari) look silly. We struggled against UGA. OSU’s offensive line, meanwhile, couldn’t even line up and blow Northwestern off the ball consistently. They are in trouble unless something has dramatically changed. Stroud is a skilled qb but has no “gamer” energy to him at all. Looks like a scared little kid back there when he starts getting pressured. Compare that to Bryce Young taking sacks and grinning.
So if they win and we win and we are in the same top 4 graphic do we do not improve our position for recruits that are actually considering both? Playing time and fit etc. come into play. They can only sign so many and we can gain ground and even pass SOME of the top teams we have been trailing in perception by Georgia winning and providing our path to higher ranking. If there is a better way to finishing higher in the final polls I am flexible.
If we win and posture ourselves for moving up, then I will gladly accept GA's help. If not, I will consider the options. Paving a way for a Big 10 sweep of the top 2 spots or maybe 2 of the top 3 and above every SEC team does not seem like a win for UT and I am sure I will pull for TCU if they beat Mich. But if Mich is still standing I will go for advancement of UT and acknowledge it is better for the conference GOING FORWARD as a whole to humble the Big 10.
I don't see any path for us to pass a 1 loss GA team in the final rankings, but might pass a humbled by common opponent Mich. and the team they beat in the semis. Especially if we look solid after losing HH vs #7. They can effectively take out 2, 3, and 4 for Bama and UT. Obviously a #5 Bama loss in this scenario is a good thing. If not, finishing 1, 2, and 3 puts us in a better more competitive recruiting bracket.
If the results just rearrange the order of the teams above us, FOR ME that is a bad thing. If we don't win, most if not all bets are off.
Your fixation on ranking is flawed.Like I said when I started this thread. If we win, and GA clobbers OSU and Mich in the title game, Bama loses or wins poorly, we could FINISH the year ranked as high as #2. If Bama wins big, #3. Who will have GAINED the most ground on the recruiting trail? They are and have been there, and we are coming out of the weeds.
1. Where are the logic flaws in MY best case scenario?
2. How does making the SEC look weaker than the Big 10 benefit UT?
3. How far does GA really fall with 1 loss vs how far can we climb if they win 2.
We might move up right behind them if they beat OSU and lose in the final if Bama loses.
We MIGHT pass TCU or Mich loser, OSU and Bama.. The higher we get the more Heupel HYPE we have on the trail. I guess TCU winning it all COULD be best, but tops is #3. Mich losing to TCU won't be as impactive as to GA. GA losing to OSU and TCU losing to Mich is the worst. We will just be behind even more folks on the trial cause we are not passing GA in the polls. The hay is mostly in the barn this cycle and GA will still be up the list next cycle, BUT we can be more of a factor if top 3, a real factor at 2.
If UGA helps us to a top 5 finish by rolling over 2 B10 teams I’m for it, of course part of this would mean Milton, Bru and Squirrel balled out against Clemson while our defense without Banks found some stops which bodes very well for next year
Oh please just stop. I hope tOSU beats the dog **** out of GA. All GA winning means is that more 5* recruits will want to go there. As hard as that is, is it possible that if MICH clobbers TCU, GA has significant wins against OSU and then MICH, that UT and Bama would join GA in the final top 3? If Bama squeaks by and we win big maybe we end up number 2. In this case I believe the end justifies the means.
Just need GA to beat the Big10 guys by more than 14 to make it tough to not drop them. I will also suck it up and pull for SC, 1 because it makes our loss look better and 2 they are playing ND.
If we lose I may have to reassess my position, but doubt it.
Who cares about rankings at this point?Like I said when I started this thread.
