This was a done deal last December.

“If he doesn't want to play it’s absolutely, perfectly fine with me,” Warlick said. “I’m not going to beg somebody to play us, especially not UConn.”

‘No big deal” for Holly Warlick if Geno Auriemma, UConn don’t want to play - GoVolsXtra Story

I don't think anyone wants this game except ESPN and some UCONN fans. It would really spike ESPN's rankings.

If you've ever perused the Boneyard, we mentioned often regarding coaching and game play. Always critical, too.

This is a rare thread because it's usually UCONN trolls who start these types. Smallvol isn't, by the way.

It's funny that for all of the talk that Tennessee doesn't matter anymore, there sure is a lot of Tennessee talk over there. There are some very good, well intentioned, posters on the Boneyard though.

Didn't Pat have down years in recruiting too? When we essential have what amounts to three number one recruits and most of the rest being top 20 recruits, how can one possibly complain about recruiting. From top to bottom, Tennessee easily has the most talented roster of any other team out there. Add a healthy tucker to the mix and it's not even a question...holly will win back a lot of naysayers this year I believe

As far as the uconn question goes, I think that game is better suited as a tournament matchup. I think the ratings would be huge either way, but a final four or nc championship game with them would bring all kinds of media attention to the sport. I also agree with holly on refusing any kind of apology.

I think fans are frustrated that we have lost out on post players in the last two classes. Other staffs are using the fact that Tennessee's roster is stacked. What can Holly do? Wilson was going to South Carolina no matter what and White followed her. If I'm not mistaken, White like Tennessee very much, but one her parents, which I think was her dad wanted her at South Carolina. Same with Brown. She was always a Baylor lean, but she felt differently on her official to Tennessee. Her dad wanted her at Tennessee because he saw the pieces that was on the roster and he was confident that she would get developed as a post player, but her mom wanted her at Baylor because her mom played collegiately with Mulkey. It was evident in the interview at the McDonald's All-American game that her dad wasn't all in for her going to Baylor, but the decision was up to her. I wonder what they were thinking with the show Te'a Cooper put on. All we can do is wait for the Dominoes to fall in place for the 2016 class. Most of the visits will be in the fall. What a long wait.

Holly must... I mean MUST make a F4 next year, IMO. She has all the talent in the world on that roster next year to win it all. I really doubt there will be 2 or 3 other teams in the NCAA with more talent than UT.
Get it done in '16.

Isn't this all old news? The demand for a Maya apology was last year. Holly really needs to drop this, Geno is just playing her for a fool (which is how he treats people that can do nothing for him), and she needs to tell ESPN to please drop it also. God this dead horse will never die. Maybe Geno will get some serious disease and retire. Please.

It's comments like this that stoke the fire.

Geno doesn't need a reason not to play TENN. just like Pat didn't need one ten years ago. Since you know the NCAA will not put TENN in UCONN's side of the bracket, they must get to the Final Four if Holly wants to play them. Otherwise, ignore any comments by the media about playing UCONN during the regular season.

But of course these comments don't....

“I really don’t give two (rips) if we ever play them again, to be honest with you. That game doesn’t mean anything to me. It might mean a lot to them. It might mean a lot to a lot of people. And those people are getting less and less each year.”
“if it never happens I could care less. I could care less. And I’m not going to bend over backwards to make it happen either.”
“I asked him if he wanted to play,” Warlick told the News-Sentinel. “He said he would if I apologized to his fans, former players, Maya Moore, her mother. I’m not going to do that.”

Playing UConn will reveal nothing that isn't already known. If the LV basketball team cannot beat Maryland, or Notre Dame, or USC - all teams that were soundly beaten by UConn - then there is no reason to expect to learn anything by playing Uconn. Geno doesn't want the game and Holly doesn't want it. I am fine with that.

UCONN is the one that really needs UT to resume the series again. Yes UCONN has won many national titles recently, but during the whole regular season UCONN plays absolutely no one (Notre Dame being the exception) that puts UCONN in a good game during January and February. Who wants to watch UCONN vs. Tulsa or UCONN vs. Tulane? Now ESPN does show UCONN as much as possible due to the close proximity to the campus but there are several SEC battles that would draw more national attention than the losers UCONN plays during the regular season. I say lets move on. We don't play Louisiana Tech or Delta State much these days either.

IMO, ESPN could revisit this issue after Aureimma retires and see what UCONN has to say about renewing the rivalry.

gee no won't retire, he'd have to start repaying his deal with the Devil if he did.

Louisiana Tech will be on the schedule in two years. Was supposed to be this year, but Tyler asked for it to be moved back.

Personally, I think Geno retires once his current agreement is up. I don't see him signing another long term contract. I think this one is up in 2017, but I could be wrong.

after the 2017-18 season. He will be only 64. I would expect him to coach 5 more years after that.

Wishful thinking of you believe he will coach only another 3 years.

I only hope we can have a great season and prove to everyone that we are still an elite team. If we win the SEC and get to the final four I believe recruits will begin to see us in a different light. We must look strong, powerful and confident.

Gino and his gang will be around for a long time to come so we have to move on and play flawless ball!!

We have a great team and we darn well better show the nation we are here to stay!!

Please! No injuries or transfers!

I think Auriemma has some goals (although he won't publicly admit it) and he won't retire until he reaches them.

IMO I think he wants all time wins (probably end up with1100+) and enough NCs so that nobody will ever pass him - not that there are any active coaches with a shot at his NC record.

My guess is that he coaches at least 5 and more likely 6 more years. IMO that means 2-3 more NCs.
