Holly vs Uconn

Why do SO many people say they could care less, when what they mean is they couldn't care less? If someone COULD care less, it means they care, and possibly that they care a very great amount. If someone couldn't care less, it means they do not care one iota.

I think it's very possible, maybe even probable, Holly is out at Tennessee before Geno retires from UConn...

Holly hasn't got this team to a Final Four yet, but she is not during a terrible job. She is doing better than a lot of other coaches who have been head coaches much longer than she has. I don't even think Hart cares about Women's sports. After she makes a Final Four, all of this fire Holly will be gone. The lady is a going against a lot of pressure trying to get the program back to a Final Four for the first time since 2008 plus endure all of the negative recruiting from other programs is a lot. Hopefully this season she will finally get over the Elite 8 hump. There are a lot of negative tactics used in recruiting to try to steer recruits away from Tennessee. Pat Summitt would pick up the phone and call whoever it was spreading rumors and lies, but Holly is not Summitt. Summitt had more power/influence. With all that being said, Tennessee is still relevant and haven't folded like a lot opposing programs are really hoping. When Geno retires, I can't wait to see how UConn transitions.

If Geno wants to be a little b***h we need to move on. UCONN playing Tennessee does not offer them any advantages as playing us 8 years ago. If UCONN beats us it is expected, however, if we beat them it would be more problematic for UCONN. UCONN needed us a few years ago but that need is over. I say play your best towards meeting them on the NCAA big stage. Then it is not a question of need or who wants what. He needs to apologize for how he recruited Maya Moore, however, his ego will never allow for that. So I say Tennessee remain strong and move on.

Not saying Holly will be fired, I'm saying she will be 57 by the time of next season..... 4 years younger than Geno. Regardless of how you feel about Holly as a coach, she is a placeholder, not a long term solution. The difference with Geno is he is going for legacy status, with records that won't be touched in our lifetime. Coach K just won a title at 68, does he look like he's slowing down? I could absolutely see Geno doing the same. Holly, not so much....

I have no doubt that some teams use negative tactics to try and influence a recruit to go to their program rather than another one. However, reading this board you would think that they all are on a singular mission to destroy Tennessee. it borders on paranoia. Don't other programs suffer from similar treatment ? We haven't been to the final four in 7 years. Certainly by now there must be a more worthy target of their scorn. How about UConn and ND ?

If she doesn't make a Final Four while DeShields is in Knoxville, she'll be gone. Even the blue hairs will want a change at that point.

And what exactly did he do that requires an apology?

I believe that Geno used his connection with ESPN in his recruitment of Maya. She had expressed an interest in becoming a broadcaster. I believe he was chided by the NCAA. However, in reality I could care less about anyone apologizing. That is water under the bridge. We need to move on. I am more concerned about the Lady Vols improving.

This conspiracy theory concerning us against the world in recruiting is unrealistic. I do not think there are a lot of programs ganging up on Tennessee. If they are ganging up on anyone it makes more sense to gang up against UCONN. I also do not see a lot of recruits so in fear of who is on our team that they are going to other top ten programs. Holly has a good record, however, so does Baylor, Maryland, South Carolina, ND, Louisville, Florida State, and UCONN and they seem to be recruiting rather well. No one is in fear of past accomplishments, it gets down to what have you done lately. The fact is we need at least two post players and we were shutout, for post players, in the 2015 recruiting class. Now we look toward the class of 2016, if we are unable to recruit at least one top post, there is an issue. We can't keep giving excuses and thinking that top recruits are in fear of starting at Tennessee. Unless proven otherwise, we need to seriously review our methods of recruiting. Unfortunately, recruiting for top ten women basketball talent has become a dog eat dog business.

It was a tour that anyone can have fin hey call themselves. Someone on the basketball staff called for the Moores. It was deemed a secondary violation. I believe Pat had a couple of those.

Should she apologize for those? And do you really thing the tour was why Moore chose Uconn?

The apology he is referring to goes beyond the ESPN tour. He is talking about the speculation of moving the Moore's in a condo in a gated community somewhere in Connecticut. Then her mother selling handbags with UConn's logo and making a profit. I just don't believe all this is made up. We will probably never know if this happened or not because the NCAA doesn't really care plus I'm sure the tracks were covered up perfectly.

I can't even repeat some of the things I have heard. I'm sure other programs are not getting these things said about their coaching staff. More personal attacks than about coaching.

So the NCAA cares enough about allegations that two UConn alumni gave a recruit a ride to or from an airport, that an alumni gave a recruit a couple of french fries and that a fan handed a recruit a hand-made poster to investigate them thoroughly (and found them baseless or at best a secondary violation), but they don't give a crap about allegations of gifts of homes or illegal income from the school to a parent of a athlete?

You need to come to your senses. It seems to me that at some point LV fans were convinced that Tenn was the Eden of wcbb and that any top recruit choosing another school HAD to have been influenced by lies about Tenn and/or outright bribery.

The only thing for which an apology is appropriate is the public charge of cheating that was made by a representative of Tenn specifically against the UConn womens basketball program. A charge that was never supported by any facts and which, if it was made by any other person, would have resulted in an ethics hearing.

I must say I've heard this same type of statement several times here in VN but no one has explained what that really means.

Do you know of any facts that support your post?

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, just not their own facts.

I can't speak to the house charge but as far as the handbags, Maya Moore's mothe did, and may still, sell handbags through the UConn bookstore. The bookstore is a private business that simply leases space from UConn. These bags have been openly sold and from what I have learned are perfectly legal as far as the NCAA is concerned. It may well be that Mrs Moore asked Tenn if she could sell them in Knoxville and it may be that she was told no, but that was strictly a decision made by Tenn, not the NCAA. Tenn may not have liked it but it was and still is perfectly legal under NCAA rules and by no means cheating.

If we are going to start in on legal recruiting practices that were done prior to being made an NCAA violation, things like raiding other programs for players, or baby pictures of a recruit on tee shirts during an official visit, or the hard-sell tactic of dropping a LOI into a recruit's lap during a game at TBA, we will be here forever.

You can't repeat it? Of courses. Kinda like Pat saying "ask Geno".

What a crock.

I don't understand. If "I'm sure other programs are not getting these things said about their coaching staff" is accurate, why only us ? I'm not doubting that some negative recruiting takes place but why is it only directed at the Lady Vols. What have we done to deserve such treatment ? We aren't on top (yet ! wait until next season) so I'm searching for a reason for why our coaching staff is the target of such behavior and every other coaching staff gets a free ride. Is there a reasonable explanation for this ?

I could care less its like beating a dead horse anyways. Hey, if thats the way the family saw there way out of the struggle so be it. You are crazy if you really think the NCAA really investigates and monitors recruiting in WCBB the way they do the men. Most violations are self-reported. What did Mulkey get for the numerous calls and texts to Griner? Basically a slap on the wrist. I never said Tennessee was holy than thou, but you have never heard allegations like that regarding Tennessee. My thing is it is so much more to the story, but I don't care to discuss. I'm just saying the reason he wants an apology. A single mother living in Section 8 and all of a sudden can fly around the country to numerous of games and plus hotels and food. Then the website showed Maya modeling thecbags. That does raise questions. You come to your senses. I know for a fact that some recruits have handlers and want more than just a scholarship. Tennessee miss out on many coveted recruits. Did allegations such as these get thrown there way? Was you there? I don't think all this stuff can just be made up. Tennessee missed out on EDD to UConn. Did they throw out allegations? You have your opinion and I have mine!

That's not being used as much as it was when Pat was coaching, but yes, it's been used many times.

I remember exactly who said it, and what was said, but not opening that can of worms.

I will say that I'm glad Tennessee doesn't run off, or discriminate against, any player who wants to come here...unlike other schools.

I'm also glad that Holly doesn't feel the need to put down schools she is recruiting against, unlike other schools as well.

Well, it's mostly not being used a lot anymore because we are in a different time than in the 90s and early 00s. Being gay is much more accepted than it was then, and when coaches use being gay as a negative, it doesn't work as well as it used to. Kids are coming out at much earlier ages now, and good for them for living their truth.
