Holy Crap -- basketball penalties

Cheating happens in every single program and in every big time sport in the nation, to think any differently is ignorance. Just can't get caught.

What is the worst part is that this is just our self-imposed penalties. The NCAA could decide to do much more.

Really, we cannot have a coach off campus recruiting for a year and these are self reported violations. So what do you suggest genius?

Who would you hire in his place that can continue to improve our national status in our basketball program.
I'm sure you've never told a lie or at least you never got caught.

We always say the coaches should get punished when this sh%+ happens, I just hate that it's our coach. He's shown he can win with less talent, maybe he should just stick to that for a little while and leave the sleeze to Cal. Maybe the NCAA will park their a$$#$ in Lexington when they finally leave K-town.

the worst part is that this exacerbates anything unearthed in the football inquiry and opens us up to institutional control type findings.

I agree that cheating happens in every program, whether you're a Calipari-runned program or just a minor violation here or there. But here is Bruce, the guy who "did the right thing" twenty years ago turning a program in, and he gets caught straight up lying to the NCAA. Not an accidental lie, something he decided to lie about. You think that'll help in recruiting? I can see a coach saying something to a recruit about Pearl right now, saying he is a fake.

Wow. I can't believe this. I just read in the paper that article by Grig this morn. and in the last 12 hrs. this happens. I wonder what kinda' thing he was doing 20 yrs. ago?

Coach Pearl is a man of integrity and for some of UT's own fans to bash him reeks of antisemitism.

Look, I'm not sure what card you're trying to pull here, but I in no way see anything anti-semitic. People are bashing him because he lied to the NCAA which is ironically hypocritical since he turned in a rival program for cheating 20 years ago. Where do you see anti-semitism?

I don't know either way. But isn't that how Mike Hamilton painted it? That Pearl had a change of heart and admitted his mistake?

Since the NCAA came down since April 09' about this, and Pearl is just now apologizing...i'll say no.

Yes it does. It shows he was trying to gain an advantage by snitching on a rival program. After this, how can you believe he was trying to do the right 20 years ago? Please be honest.
Anyone that thought Pearl was ever trying to do anything other than bring a major opponent down is kidding themselves. He never cared about doing the right thing, he found an opportunity to bring someone down and took it.

He is reiterating A joke a few months back.

this has nothing to do with his actions 20 years ago. he was attempting to turn someone else in for cheating. in this instance, he admits to cheating. the two things aren't related.
