Hopson passing on NBA

yep he has. the kid has amazing POTENTIAL. he shows flashes of what he could be. but let me ask you this. how many times have you seen him bust it to get back on D? i've seen him many times step out of the way when the other team is driving to the goal. he won't take charges. he'll act like he's trying, he'll sort of run back, but not give full effort. how many times have you seen him sweat? serious que. the kid never sweats

Who do you think was our second best player this year? Who do you think will be our best player next year?

I am glad Scotty is coming back. I do not have any snide remarks to offer up regarding his NBA potential or now-hypothetical draft position.

I am apparently in the minority.

Damnit.

I was hoping we'd be rid of his ovrrated ass and some team in Europe would have to put up with him.

The big winner here? Vincent Yarbrough, as he is soon to no longer be the biggest bust to ever play at UT.

to me down the stretch it was JP, and i gave JP hell before the Tyler Smith dismissal. best player next year? not sure, who should it be? it should be Hopson, depends on him

It wasn't Hopson. If he is not making his shot, he is worthless. He isn't a great passer, doesn't rebound, doesn't hustle or go after loose balls and most of the time doesn't defend.

if he just hustled, played hard. i'd never say a word. bc if he does that, he'll develop into a great player

Just curious. What have you seen that I have missed that makes you think this?

I have mainly just seen flashes of excellence. He has times where he looks like he is ready to become a premier shooter and times where he looks like he will become a premier driver/finisher around the bucket.

I really think if a full focused effort goes into it from him all offseason he could take a big step forward.

I don't think he will ever be the best player in the conference like we hoped, but an All SEC type player that can really lead this team.

Maybe, but you are not alone.

Perhaps I'm in the minority as well.

kid's got skills. and passion. and smarts.

but he's still a kid. and everyone matures at a different pace.

i'm much happier that he's coming back. we can use scotty for sure.

I'm glad he is coming back because we need him, and yes people do mature differently.

However, there is a very long pattern with Hopson. If you read some of the scouting reports on him coming out of high school they same the same things many on here say.

Unlimited potential, but effort on D and attitude and sulking if he doesn't get the ball have always been issues with him.

Yeh bc a coach with a .750+ winning % has been playing a kid that gives less than half effort. Get real. The kid has struggled, doesn't mean he isn't trying.

Hopson has done his fair share of being lazy on the court

If you think he gives maximum effort, then you obviously haven't watched many games.

Thats a shock. The fact that this kid thinks he can play in the NBA after what he's done the last two seasons tells you all you need to know about why this kid doesnt get it. He's entitled and lazy. He'd get eaten alive playing 82 games a season as mentally weak as he is.
