Hot Take on Pruitt and rebuilding

If he wins enough to be considered the next Bama coach, then we'll be in a good position too. I'm just worried about 2018 for now... the rest of the stuff we can't do anything about, like whether Dabo takes the hook or Pruitt wins enough to qualify as a candidate.

If he averages 11 wins a season for us and is a regular playoff factor? Yes, he’d be a candidate and yes he’d say YES...imo. It’s going to take a few for him to have that track record.

It’s funny that you don’t recognize that Bama is BAMA. They’re not taking flyers on POTENTIAL...they don’t have to!

Yep. They could and might probably get Belichick if they wanted. He was there last week, visiting.

Ok let's make this clear I like Pruitt and think he is a great fit with one big IF and that is IF he doesn't bolt for Bama in the next few years.

Now with that said I think what we are seeing now with how he is recruiting and burning spots for the 2019 class with grad transfers and this latest juco commit is a coach that is prioritizing a long shot at winning now over Buiding for the future.

Imo these spots we keep burning for 2019 are showing a short sided approach to the rebuilding process. I think we need to be saving spots so that the 2019 class can begin to get us back on track.

Now for the hot take part but I am starting to think there may be some truth to this. Pruitt knows Saban is retiring in a few years and he is desperately trying to win an extra game or two this first year or two so that he puts himself into a better spot to go home. He doesn't really care about taking the approach of rebuilding this thing for the long haul which saving spots for later classes requires.

CJP has the option of giving the schollys to guys who are already there who aren't on a scholly, or bringing in players early spring who he thinks are more valuable. It's just a numbers game and every coach has to play it if they're not filling their class quota. It's not necessarily an enviable position, but it's all he has to work with right now.

Ok. So if Dabo says no give me the coach they hire?

Next one on the NATIONAL list. Peterson...Patterson...NFL coaches...do you really want me to list everyone that has won a ton of games? Cuz that list is humongous when compared to 7. :)

And I think it's entirely possible Bama regards Pruitt as the next Kirby and is ready for the job. They could easily regard him ahead of those guys you mentioned since they worked with him.

Also as likely those coaches say no to Bama and don't want to replace a legend.

Do you guys think Bama folks regard Smartt as a great coach?

Well, he's played for a National Championship as HC which Pruitt has not yet.

However, to say that Pruitt is #2 behind Dabo (if Dabo is even #1) is just as crazy. Bama has lots of options available to them, not just previous DC's.

If you could be a tree, what kind of tree would it be? And would there be any great coaches hiding up in there? :)

Likely they’ll hire the best proven winner...since they’re Bama. :)

Smart woud be 2 but isn't reasonable imo being a Georgia grad.

Lol... Bruin, you need to share your roster and scholarship concerns with JP, because, ya know, he's known to be a poor recruiter and talent evaluator.

And, I'd say we're doing alright if Alabama wants to hire our coach in 3-5 years. If that's the case, our team will be in a great spot for the following coach because JP would need to kill it here to get their attention.

You aren't reading the post if you think that is what I was posting about

Wrong. That job will be Dabo’s should he choose to leave Clemson. I truly believe that Dabo and Pruitt want to build their own legacies without being forever known as “the guy that replaced Saban”.

Don't worry about CJP bolting to Alabama. Rumors have it that Saban has a promising intern he plans to groom as his replacement.

Winners win now. We've had enough year zeros and corner stone bricks and adding on to those bricks year after year. That strategy hasn't worked for us in the past couple decades. Let's try something new. Let's win now.

Oh how I love posts like this. Winners win now. LOL. You obviously havent been paying attention. Look at the amount of grad transfers and JUCOS Pruitt has considered. Also take into account how small he said our roster was. This roster as it sits, isnt built to win at a high rate. Pruitt is in uncharted territory here. We dont have a roster full of ultra talented guys.

I can see it now. We only manage to win 5-6 games this year and people are going to be saying Pruitt isnt the guy. SMH.
