@canitpro just to give you the benefit of a doubt I've spent the last little bit searching. There are NO federal or state laws against possession of them. Obviously if they are used to actually hold or abduct someone that's a whole other issue, but possession isn't illegal. Thoughts are illegal, you can't charge someone for what they "might do" this isn't minority report.

That said, there are some local laws on the city level banning them. Namely NYC & CHICAGO, imagine that, but I couldn't find anything addressing it in DC.

Yes- I earlier read the ones in Chicago, NYC, and I believe Florida. I wasn’t stating it definitively that’s why I alluded to the fact that i could be convinced otherwise. Also, the ones sold online seem to be marketed to security personnel and law enforcement. I doubt I could be convinced that the intent of their use during the break-in to congress was anything but malicious- again, context and circumstance was the whole point of me using the example. It appeared there were plans to take hostages, why? I’m not entirely sure, but hopefully that will be elucidated by the ongoing FBI investigation

I don't understand why the police don't just shop at Harbor Freight and buy the normal big zip ties for $1.99. Look at the money they could save taxpayers, especially on the left coast where they are just going to let them go anyway.
Hell they got some monster ones at Tractor Supply company. I think you could hog tie a gorilla with them, give it a Brazilian and never have to worry. They're like $5 for a couple dozen.

Imagine a future when only cops and criminals own zip ties and electrical cables are completely out of control.

I cant wait for a lawyers’ argument that his client was a militant cable management aficionado who broke in because Congress’ was derelict in their wiring organization responsibilities

One word. Lawsuits.

Lawyers go apeshit over trying to sue police departments for "non-standard" ammo. Imagine if they were restraining someone with "non-standard" zip ties and they got hurt.

I know your post was semi-tongue in cheek, but that's the reality.

Yet another reason to hate our current system.

Gotta buy zip ties from women and/or minority owned businesses first..

Yep.... real quality can be found there

I use Harbor Freight as a place for the "use once" tools so to speak. If I have something I'm going to use one time maybe every two or three years, I'll buy from there. I bought a couple of breaker bars from HF that I use every once in a while.

Or if I have tools that I won't mind beating up. For example, I bought an axe from there specifically for chopping up roots in the ground. Don't care if it gets chipped on a rock or rusted or whatever. It literally is a "throw away" axe.

Some of their stuff isn't bad quality wise though. Their tool cabinets are pretty good.

Me, too, and a couple of things are surprisingly good. Those drill bit sets with the hex base can't be beat for the price - haven't used them much at all on metal though. They carry sets of metric/standard black socket sets in plastic snap lock cases that have been great with both an air impact wrench and standard sockets. The case is flat and compact - just the thing when you have to go help the kids with something and don't want to take all your real tools.

I've been to inaugurations AND inaugural activities AND I have a close personal friend who has been in the Secret Service for 25 years. The Secret Service, filled with notoriously conservative agents and officers, will not tolerate any crap from either side.

ANYTHING that happens at the inauguration makes the Service look bad and they won't tell you how they feel but I will: All Presidents are annoying, but we still have to protect them because.... America.

I went to church once with my buddy who works for the Service. As we got ready, he put on his concealment holster, loaded weapon, and an extra magazine in his jacket and another in his pants. I was like, "Dang, these must be some hardcore Baptists in Maryland." It's just how he sees the world.

My advice: Have your life insurance paid up if you're thinking of trying anything.
