How Do We Score 50 at Oregon?

How are we going to score 35 against a good defense?

By continuing to improve, continuing to add to and open up the playbook, and by refining the depth chart.

I wish Croom absolutely nothing but the best however... can UT really afford him out there without trying someone like Dallas?

This game was a lot like having a 2nd game one from an improvement standpoint. WKU exposed fixable problems.

It was never going to. IMO, id put Western Kentucky on the same level as Virginia. This will be less than a 10 point game either way it goes.

This makes no sense; you said we're basically in WKU's position next week and we beat them by 32, yet we're either going to win by less than 10 or lose by less than 10?

I'll grant you the gap is smaller between WKU and us and us and Oregon, but it's still rather large.

Based on?

I'd base it on the fact that UVA's front 4 had some success vs Oregon... and UT's is considerably more talented and deeper. UT's LB's are much better than UVA's. Then I'd compare the OL's. UVA's for a reasonably good portion of the game pushed Oregon's front 7 around. UT's is decidedly better.

I could certainly be wrong but I have said for weeks that I liked the way UT's OL and DL match up with Oregon's. We only have to wait another week to see now.

There is nothing concrete showing otherwise. Go jump on the bama bandwagon, Debbie downer.

How about you stop being a predictable nitwit who thinks anyone who doesn't "believe" UT is going to win just because suddenly isn't a Vol fan.

You're the same type that won't show his face next week if UT does get beaten badly.

No I'm not. You are a horses ass, though.

We won't score 50 but pound the rock and force a few turnovers and we can possibly give them one helluva game.

That trip to the west coast is supposedly a ***** for pros so I can't imagine it will be just fantastic for our guys either, also playing in that hole in the ground that is louder than hell with a bunch of stoner beatniks.

Win TOP by successful running the ball.
The longer we can keep the Ducks offense off the field plus successful move the ball and score tds the better chance we have of winning.

Fair enough, but I think you're stretching it in describing how UVa did against Oregon.

The talent gap isn't all that big. Their O goes primarily through 2 guys. Everyone else when they're challenged looks like a role player.

What they win with is a system.... not necessarily dominant talent. The talent they recruit and develop fits that system.

It comes down to coaching as much or more than talent.

Oregon is vulnerable on D. I am not sure what UT can do about it or if they can stop their O... but a good O can move the ball on them.

Should get Jacques Smith back next week, Vereen too. Hopefully this will step up the pass rush if we get the Ducks in 3rd and long situations.

Well one way to score 50 against Oregon would be to have 6 touchdowns, 2 field goals, and then a safety.

No. They were definitely overwhelmed. But what they did well points to opportunities for UT. It is a longshot but there are some cracks that can be exploited in Oregon's game.

IMHO, UT should be able to maul them between the tackles... but then Worley has to hit something to keep them honest. If he can... UT should be able to wear them down in the middle.

You asked for reasons, and people answered. It's clear where you stand. You don't think it will be close. You might be right. Maybe not. But you haven't said why. Why?

Also bring pressure on the Ducks constnatly.
Once the Ducks Rb has the ball need to get to him immediately before he can start to run.

I think the Defense confidence goes high if they can get one play early of swarming the Ducks then stripping the ball.

Why don't I think UT will win? Because Oregon is the better team and we're playing at their place. I don't think we can/will score enough because I don't think our D will be able to stop them.

Pound the rock, move the chains. Their OL and small RBs had no interior push early in the game. That gives me a glimmer of hope, but they are a very good fb team you can't take that away from them. I just do not ever see them as NC material though with their scheme. Year in and year they run into power teams that cream them, this year will be no different.
