Another thread about u didn't come so we didn't really need u..typical vol nation. .lol

Im sorry all of u would be on gundy as bad if not worse than cbj.

I did not like gundy coming to ut at all but would have been on the train more than cbj but im starting to like cbj. Saying that he has to beat bama and fla bottom line. I do not want a coach like Johnny majors that it takes 10 years to win an sec championship.

N u would still find a gripe n there.

In 8 years at Oklahoma State, Gundy has never won a Big 12 championship. He never played in the B12 championship game while it existed. He has beaten Oklahoma only once. I'd much rather hire a guy from the minor leagues than someone who's had his shot in a big conference and not done much with it. Which is why I wanted Strong much worse than Gundy, and why, as disappointed as I was when we hired Cincinnati's coach, I still regarded it as better than if we'd hired Mike Gundy.

EDIT: Looks like he did win a title in 2011, after that one win over Oklahoma. Doesn't change my point though. I wouldn't want to hire a guy who wasn't able to beat Texas and Oklahoma and hope he could beat Bama and Florida.

Comparing Gundys recruiting classes to OU and Texas is about like comparing Miss State to Bama and LSU. He has always faced a significant talent gap...especially on defense. I'm perfectly happy with CBJ but Gundy is as good an offensive coach as there is. Would love to see what he could do with SEC talent on D.

Texas is a special case, but why are his recruiting classes so much worse than Oklahoma's? Why hasn't he been able to close that gap? Why would you hire a guy who hasn't be able to close that recruiting gap to recruit against Bama and Florida and Georgia?

I would of been happy if we got Gundy. However after reading that article and hearing how his son asked him what a volunteer was and he didn't know I'm glad we didn't get him. I know that has nothing to do with his coaching ability but if you have to google what a Tennessee volunteer is then I don't want you coaching volunteers. I want someone like cbj who knows The history and tradition and respects it.

Keep in mind there is not a 40 year old man alive that doesn't know what a Tennessee Volunteer is. That was dig, if that's truly what happened.

He's making it really hard for me to not get my hopes up.

That's the only thing I can find not to like about him right now. The only thing.

Met him my junior of high school down at the Peyton Manning camp. Pretty nice guy, was looking at my buddy I was down there with at coming to OSU to play QB. He later walked on at Tennessee. Only ended up staying his Freshman year....way better decision IMO.

Yeah I seriously doubt The credibility of that article. My dad taught me about The Alamo and Tennessee volunteers by The time I was in 1st grade

More known for the War of 1812 and the Battle of New Orleans but for a 1st grader that's pretty good. :good!:

After losing a re-election bid and with Tennessean Sam Houston rising to leadership in the state, Former Congressman David Crockett joined countless other Tennesseans in sensing a chance to reinvent himself and his political career in Texas. In a Memphis tavern as he was preparing to leave, the frontier statesman made the notorious quote that came to symbolize Crockett’s migration westward and the opportunities that he believed it held:

"My constituents can go to Hell. As for me, I’m going to Texas."

Had Volnation been around ole Davey would have been scorched on here! Crockett was not a VFL, IMO.....Just kidding!

Exactly this. If he doesn't deliver in the wins column, I fear his execution by hyped up UT fans will be swift and relentless. He's exciting, motivating, and relentless in his role as a recruiter and coach, but we are still down in the dumps with the likes of Kentucky. I truly hope people keep that in mind and are happy with the positives and not surprised with some losses next year.

I agree. Already got guys in here saying if he doesn't win X number of games he's on the hotseat/not the right guy. Crazy. Even Saban went 7-6 his first year before turning Alabama around. Gonna take some patience, there are gonna be some losses, especially given our schedule.
