How I Met Your Mother

One interesting thing I noticed, if you look at the cut to the wedding day sometime in the future at the beginning of the episode, the sun is shining and there are people going into the little church.... Then at the very end of the episode when it cuts to the wedding day sometime in the future, it shows the outside of the church and it is raining and no one is there.

I'm thinking this could mean that there are two different weddings that are going to take place/are scheduled to take place at that church, not the same wedding. So when Lily says "the bride wants to see you" to Ted, it could actually be two different weddings, and when he goes in and its Robin, it might not be Barney's wedding....

Or maybe I'm just reading to much into it.

Does this rambling post make sense to anyone?

It easily could be, or it wouldn't be out of the ordinary for this show to actually say, "and kids, that's how I met your mother, you see Victoria is actually (insert name here)."

No chance. That would go down in TV history as the most stupid plot twist since Dallas brought back Bobby Ewing and made the entire previous season a dream.

no there have not. We have no idea if she was in Ted's wrong class, or if she had a room mate or if she ever owned a yellow umbrella. I actually even went back and looked and he never told her he loved her. There's no factual evidence to state she isn't the mother, the producers and writers have even admitted she will most definitely be a player at the end and that had the show not made this long, she would have already been deemed the mother.

How would Ted not know she was in the class? You're telling me he'd not notice his ex in there? It wasn't even that big of a class.

I've seen every episode of this show. After following this season, and seeing the finale last night, I can't help but think that this show has fallen off hard.

This show is full of circular development and plot lines that make the progression of this show almost unbearable. They've slowed character development to a crawl, I'm guessing because they don't know how many seasons that they have left. I can respect the process of writing and producing a great sitcom like HIMYM, but come on. Every character that is introduced is pretty much useless (the girl that Ted dated that didn't want the building torn down, the dude from Harold and Kumar, the stripper that Barney marries). All of them served their purpose to get the viewers to step outside of the original group of 5 friends, but ultimately, the main plots still rotate inside that immediate circle of 5 friends.

This show goes NOWHERE now. Nowhere at all. They played the whole "and that's where I met your mother", "your mother was in that same room/building/street", "which just so happened to be where your mother..." you get the point. They played that card so many times that it got frustrating. So they just started introducing characters and developments that are easily expendable.

It was obvious, when you go back and watch the older seasons, when the show was renewed for more seasons. They slow development all the way down, they add new characters that really bring nothing to the mix, and they add little subplots. It all feels like filler that takes up the entire season before the group of 5 friends are advanced at the very end of the season.

It's getting frustrating to follow this show now. I still watch because I feel like I've already invested a lot of interest and viewing into this show. I'm not going to skip out on the last season or anything, but I feel like the writers are selling themselves short and continually playing the viewer for a fool.

I think that the end to this past season was a cop out, and I hope that they get some sort of timeline for their seasons that they have remaining so they can develop the plot and characters accordingly.

Seinfeld had nine successful seasons of "going nowhere". I get your point regarding the storyline, but in the end this show is still just a comedy.

Going nowhere was the point of Seinfeld though

He's right, HIMYM was great for a while but should have ended a while ago

This.

I've gotten to the point where, just like The Office, I watch out of habit more than enjoyment. I'm really hoping the next season is the last because the show has really gone on a few seasons too many and it's getting to the point that I don't care who the mother is.

Same here. Pretty much agree with everything everyone else has said. I can only handle Ted trying to get back with Robin so many times.

I know the name of the show is "How I Met Your Mother" not "How I Hung Out With Your Mother" but if they casted a cool actress to play the mom they could have had AT LEAST 2 seasons of a solid 6 person cast carrying the show.

This could have added that dynamic this season flawlessly and still accomplished everything that they already did this season. It's not like Ted did anything this season anyway.

And Ted's character taking off with a bride on her wedding day? Come on.

At this point, the actions of the characters have no meaning or background for a decision. They just throw things at us out of nowhere and write it off as unexpected writing. I think they were trying to buy time and they're just throwing everything against the wall hoping something sticks.

Like I said, I've watched this show since the beginning, and I think it's a fun show, but I think they dropped the ball on this thing 1.5-2 seasons ago.

I agree... and that was my point. The same is true for most comedies. They are generally 30 minutes (okay 20 minutes plus commercials) of humor mixed around a cast of central characters. If you view HIMYM in the same fashion as other comedies, then the shows are still quite good. If you're watching it as if its some type of drama with a major story line, then I agree it started getting old a few seasons ago... but that's not really why I watch it.

I was thinking about some sort of joint or dual wedding as well.

I wouldn't rule it out at all.

I know that the writers try to be tricky and roll everything together at the end of episodes (sometimes finales) for their big "reveal" that closes out the episode/season.

I'm sure the last 2 episodes of the show will bring everyone back that's ever been on the show to reveal how each and every person played some sort of role in Ted meeting his wife.

That's my beef with where this show is now. I was fine watching the same characters do the same funny things for a few seasons. They finally set sail with these characters to develop their storylines, love lives, personalities, etc and I feel that's where they've come up short.

It was different watching Barney do hilariously stupid things every episode with different bimbos, or Ted continuously whiffing with girls that would only be around for 1-3 episodes.

Once they took off on the Marshall-Lilly house and baby thing, Robin's no-babies and advancement into the world of serious relationships, and Barney's eagerness for marriage they really changed everything up.

I think most fans of the show were eager to see where all of these characters were going now that they got out of the same hilarious, albeit monotonous, routines. The WRITERS are the ones that introduced drama and serious subjects into the characters' lives. When they threw away all of those new developments, it felt like they were just writing to write and it was going nowhere.

Just me, but when the comedy is character-driven (as in HIMYM) rather than situation-driven (Seinfeld), I need to be compelled to enjoy the show with things other than the comedy.

I'm in 100% agreement with everything that you've said in your last few posts. This show jumped a 20-foot great white at least 2 seasons ago. Like you, I am only continuing to watch this show now because I have so much time invested in watching the earlier seasons. The last 2 seasons have been a toxic waste dump.

I don't think it's just you, but then again I think all good comedies are character-driven... though not exactly sure what you mean by situation-driven. Seinfeld was successful because of it's characters, and other comedies I've enjoyed (Cheers, Friends, Modern Family) all had an amazing cast of characters with a uniqueness that made them fun to watch.
