How much better is UGA?

I am very impressed with our run D. If you aren’t someone like Gibbs, then I don’t think you’re a problem for us.

Think about this: Even with a 26 yard TD run, we still held Gibbs to a 4.3 YPC. Take out Young’s sack for 14 yards, Bama had 30 rushes for 128 yards (4.26 YPC). That’s really impressive.!

I don't. And not particularly because of some personal biases but rather because UT hasn't been good over the last few years. I think the mentality of voters is similar to pre-season polls in that respect. Teams that are always hanging around the top 10 get extra consideration.

If UT doesn't win the SEC and both UGA and Bama end up with one loss... which two do you think go? That's a pretty easy answer IMO. UT gets a NYD 6 consolation prize and "try again next year". I just have no confidence at all in the poll voters.

And the computer polls are still pretty funky. Sagarin even after Saturday has UT 5th... and Bama 3rd. Billingsley has UT 4th but Bama right behind at 5th. Massey ratings have Bama 3rd and UT 5th. A couple have UT higher and one has UT #1... but not if they take a loss.

The best case scenario other than winning out is for Alabama and Georgia to win out and go to the SEC championship. (Assuming we win all but Georgia game) We would then need to root for a Georgia win. That would give Alabama 2 losses. I would think Tennessee would then make the CFB playoffs with their lone loss coming to SEC champion Georgia.

Like Bama, Georgia will enter their game with us, strutting overconfidence. Like many cocky boxers, they never see the knockout punch coming. Hopefully this means the Vols will bam a Georgia.

You mean THIS true freshman safety? Dude is a complete stud.

Good luck. Maybe he is. However you dont put him on the hottest Reciver in college football if you are Smart..... He does not have the footspeed or twitch to stay with Hyatt. And putting up a photo of his int against Oregon doesnt impress me. Who was that QB again Nix ? Lol.

At this point, who knows anymore! I've been proven wrong so many times now this season I've stopped trying to figure this team out. I certainly didnt see us winning all 4 of Pitt, FL, LSU, and Bama. So I feel like we can play with anybody in the country.

Regarding Georgia, beating the #1 team in the country in their building is going to be a VERY tall order! My biggest concern is having the size/depth to match them physically for four quarters. Georgia can grind you down. They are big, deep, and talented! My gut tells me we lose by a couple of TD's but as I said before, who knows.

Playing on the road has not bothered Heupel and company this year at all, I don't think the puppy pound will make a difference. With the way our OL kept 'Bama pretty much at bay, we have a shot of doing the same with UGA.
I believe our defensive line can get to the QB when they want to. That leaves the passing game and Bennett is no Bryce Young. It will be close again (if my heart can handle it) but I think the Vols pull another upset.

I think we match up better vs UGA than Bama. Our weakness is DBs they have a game manager although very football smart QB. Our DL is getting better and better I just don’t see Stetson able to pass on us and we are great vs run. Faced what I believe is best RB in nation in Gibbs. I look for UGA to use their tight ends a lot even on running plays. I don’t like playing between the hedges although we have won our share there.

Let’s focus on the game this week. No reason to look any further than that he game this Saturday. We will be the superior team on the field. Let’s get quality reps from our starters and work the younger guys into the game. We need to get playing time for the guys busting their butt in practice all week.

Georgia is three weeks away. It’s not time to even think about Georgia. Remember, we have lost to a cup cake Georgia State team in the last 100 years. Granted our staff is much better, but you guys are running on fast forward. Let’s stay on pace and enjoy every minute of this season. It is a special time in Knoxvegas. Stay focused.

We play UT Martin and KY before them. Just hope for no big injuries vs a team like Martin...like what happened w Akron. That's why those cream puff games worry me..and of course KY worries me. Can't look at these "easier" SEC games as guaranteed. Whatever....we beat Bama and we should enjoy that.

After seeing us against Bama I highly doubt GA will take us lightly. I expect them to approach it like the massively important game it could be. Imo.

Yesterday was a day I will never forget as a vol fan, but Heup and this team should be moving on. We should not overlook anyone, but I imagine this week we will begin gameplannig for more that just UT Martin.

As we fans look ahead how much better do we think UGA is than the Bama team we faced yesterday? They have had some struggles, and only really shrugged it off recently. I think they are the most talented team in the SEC. Their TE Bowers is a monster. Bennet is a gamer, but nowhere near as good as Young IMO. Curious on others thoughts. I think it will he an equally tough game and see their defense causing us more issues than Bama.
As a friendly Ga fan ,let me give you some facts about he dawgs. They are deep , Kirby smart is a defensive guru. Alabama lost because tn was able to make them one dimensional. Ga has several options at every position. They have been playing at 50% to allow all players to play and give others a chance to recoup. The offense is explosive and the defense is scrimmaging. Georgia has not only been scouting tn but they have been practicing and preparing for it since spring weekly. I am glad Tn won against Bama but it’s highly less likely they will succeed against ga .

We might be jacking up Bama's stats now, but they rank 16 in total defense and UGA ranks 3rd. The only full game of theirs I watched was Oregon and they were stifling. They had lapses a couple of games ago. Pretty sure we get their best effort.

They are also 4th in total offense where we are now 1st. They will be the most well balanced team we have faced. View attachment 502415View attachment 502408View attachment 502415

Yes, this is all fine and dandy, but look at the discrepancy in schedules thus far. UGA's schedule thus far is a bit of a joke.

Any other QB in the country not named Bryce Young, CJ Stroud or Hendon Hooker play for Bama and UT wins by double digits. Crazy to say this in a loss but that’s the best QB performance I’ve ever seen against UT. Young was absolutely incredible.

It’s in Athens. I think Georgia’s secondary is better than Bama’s while I think Bama has the better pass rush. If Tennessee gets the pressure they did against Young on Bennett, Tennessee wins. There is no way in hell Bennett could make half the plays/throws Young had to make.
Young had an amazing game. Even more amazing we pulled out the win with him balling out.

Then the Vols have to overcome the "Johnny come lately" thing with voters plus SEC fatigue and an opportunity for voters to favor another conference.

Let's say your scenario plays out. UGA is in. Clemson who is likely undefeated is in. tOSU or Michigan wins the Big 10 and they're in.

That leaves the Vols competing for the last shot with either an undefeated or 1 loss PAC12 champ and potentially an undefeated TCU team or a 1 loss champion.

If UT wins the SEC CG giving Bama its second loss then I could easily see UGA getting that kind of credibility and favor. The media maybe shouldn't consider things like "talent" or recruiting rankings... but they do. UGA would still be seen as one of the most talented teams in the country that "slipped". Same for Bama now. I just don't see UT getting credit for being highly talented either... and maybe with good reason. UT still has some holes as we see on D.

Follow the blueprint used by Mizzou. Mizzou wins that game if they don't shoot themselves in the foot with bad penalties. Vols offense is much better than Mizzou's...if the defense can do what Mizzou's did, UGA can be beat.

@VolKnight9 @DD4ME

Another thing that illustrates the reasons for my doubt... Even after beating 4 ranked teams in 6 games... even after beating Bama... ESPN's FPI has UT ranked 6th behind tOSU, Bama, UGA, Michigan, and Texas. And they aren't close behind those top 3. UT's FPI is 20.2. All three of those teams are 28+. Texas with two losses and no quality wins outside of the blowout of a bad OU team... is 20.5. Michigan whose only remotely good opponent was Penn State... is 22.2.

I have serious, serious doubts about any formula that produces that result. It would be bad enough if UT were "close"... they aren't.

They have been playing at 50 percent ? LMAO 😂 . Who let this leg humper in our house ?

Understood. Just the same, never underestimate the arrogance and outright stupidity of people. We tend to repeat things, even when the experience and/or knowledge condemns doing so. That's been my experience.

I mean outside of an overrated Oregon team, GA has played nobody, sorry but it's true. You don't know how good your team is and until Kirby had top-end talent ya'll weren't beating the big boys on a regular basis. So Kirby might be a guru but swap rosters with TN and I guarantee you're not undefeated with Kirby calling the shots. I'm not saying he's not a great coach, but I think the coaching advantage is on TN's sideline.
