How Stupid Is Governor Ron Desantis?

I mean, you are the guy who compared homosexuality to incest. Something you are born with vs. something you choose that basically nobody in society accepts.

Then there is this little lesson on bigotry you probably ignored or forgot

BS. You’re Just regurgitating what you’ve been told. You’re not “born” gay without some kind of chemical imbalance or cognitive disability. You know absolutely nothing coming into this world except how to cry and therefore know nothing of sexuality. As you grow up, depending on the environment you grow up in, you learn along the way. We all pick up on what we’re surrounded by. English or southern accents are a perfect example. Therefore if you’re a boy being raised by women, why would you expect that learning what women are attracted to is simply that and NOT something you were “born” with? Let’s cut the BS and call it what it is. You see more gay men these days because there are more fatherless houses and no one there to teach them to be men.

I’m open to hear opinions on how I’m wrong but don’t expect no resistance. You’ll have a hard time explaining how a healthy boy was born gay and not thought to be that way.

If you theory of gayness was correct, half the country would be gay.

Completely delusional. The parties are more alike that dissimilar.

The "disagreements" are on window dressing issues.

You hit on something here, and maybe we are just seeing it differently. I see regular folks as having different ideas.....vastly different ideas. However, a lot of our "leaders" on both sides of the isle don't really represent us. It's all about them.

Prolly won't stop his getting all of Florida's Little Bubba votes, but Florida's Big Bubba is governing about as stupidly as stupid can get.

I disagree with many of his policies and beliefs, but he's not stupid at all. All of this over the last few months is getting him cred with conservatives. He is absolutely running in my opinion in 24, and folks should have learned their lesson in 2016 when they discounted Trump.

When did you choose to be straight?
Maybe I’m not the best one to ask. I had both parents. I have no chemical imbalances nor cognitive issues and I never once questioned my sexual preference. Neither did my brother. I lived in Arizona for a while around the age of 10 and we played tackle football on lime rock roads because there was no grass. We would flip over rocks looking for scorpions and I was the dumbass boy that grabbed a diamondback rattlesnake by the tail just to see if I could kill it with my bare hands. On the flip side I have a close friend of the family that has a gay son. We’ll call him Matt. Matt is flaming gay and proud. But Matt also grew up mostly without his dad because he was a boat captain as well as being born with brain damage. In his case, I agree he may have been born that way. However, Matt has a boyfriend that you would never know was gay. In his case, he’ll tell you himself it was a choice. Hence his attraction to a feminine acting male.

The poster I was challenging made the comment that homosexuality is something you’re born with. I’m asking how?

So you are basing your entire opinion about gay dudes based on some guy named Matt you grew up with?

That, that isn't how any of this works.

They will always tell you who they fear. The smarter ones have finally figured out that DeSantis is the nightmare candidate for them. A conservative who doesn’t back down but unlike Trump has an actual working brain.

No. I’m basing my opinion on what I seen back then vs now. I know several gay guys and most of them are very cool people. But not one of them will tell you they were born that way outside of the one aforementioned with medical issues. If you are in fact born that way, I want more proof than a left leaning scientist because the gay guys I know disagree.

I mean, that is an anecdotal argument. You are basing that on your experience. That doesn't likely transcribe to the population as a whole, you know?

A confluence of (mostly) epigenetics and (some) genetics.

The underlying assumption to the concept of homosexuality being a choice is that one has options to choose from. In other words, one has at least two feasible options from which they make an active choice. Remember, we are talking about orientation, not acting on said orientation (which is clearly a choice as one can always be celibate). Thus, if sexual orientation is a choice, everyone has a choice between two feasible sexual options. This brings us back to my question, when look at other males as a feasible option for your sexual desire and choose to be straight?

I agree. That’s why I’m asking for proof outside of a mans word that doesn’t remember being a baby simply because he holds a degree. To me it makes more sense that each one of us are a product of our environments growing up. And that environment shapes us as human beings. You’re not “born” a thug. You’re simply born into the environment and made one. Same thing

Never looked at it as an option. There was never a choice to me because I didn’t want there to be. But that’s just me. I’m not of the opinion that no dude ever considers another dude. In fact, my argument is that they do and some “choose” to explore

I don't understand your second sentence; what is "proof outside of a man's word" or a degree have to do with anything?

There are many, many studies and frankly many anecdotal experiences that show homosexuality is not just something people "decide" to engage in. Or heterosexuality, for that matter. I think this comparison is a bad one.

I’m referring to when this idea all started that people are born that way. It was about 30 years ago when a scientist came out with that narrative. It’s since took off to the point that people believe it. Much like ADHD in the last 15 years or so. I feel kids are labeled ADHD to give them an excuse for misbehavior when most of the time it’s a lack of discipline at home. Homosexuality was given an “out” with the “born that way” narrative in most cases IMO. The reason I feel that way is because your environment is what made you who you are.

That isn't the case though, like there are numerous cases that folks that are gay are, just gay. The question that is asked a lot is why would someone that could be straight, meet a woman, marry and have kids even possibly take a second to think, "hmmm, I'm going to hook up with a dude" and go through all the ******** and hatred that encompasses that?

I think the point is there is no proof one way or the other. I personally don’t believe you’re born that way. I think you’re raised into it and fatherless homes plays a huge factor. Now I could be wrong but so could you and the guy I was quoting originally. Anyone that claims to “know” you’re born that way would have no way of knowing to make such a claim. Proving that would be a hard as proving what happens after death. We simply don’t know

So are you Including the Apostle Paul in your grouping of „evangelical Christians“ making „absurd arguments“?

That isn't how that works at all. Sigh.
