How Stupid Is Governor Ron Desantis?

Vengeful? Government shouldn’t support or offer special perks to any business, organization, person, or whatever that sexualizes kids.
Disney "sexualizes" kids, eh?

Objecting to the "Parental Rights in Education" bill is hardly sexualizing kids. LOL.

The Republican stance towards Disney, shepherded by DeSantis, is the right-wing's version of cancel culture. They are over-reaching with hyperbolic rhetoric and distortions (such as the one from up above) in effort to retaliate against a business which has opposed them on policy. That is a very similar tactic in nature, to what Republicans have referred to as "cancel culture", whenever Democrats do something like this.

The harder conservatives try to convince us that Republicans are more tolerant than Democrats, of people who disagree with them, the more you prove that just the opposite is true.

My god they’re losing their s*** because a bill was passed to prevent small kids from being subjected to mental illness. Gender dysphoria and homosexuality is a mental illness along with any other abnormal alphabet condition. Eliminating pronouns and all the other stupidity just to pander to less than 1% of the population isn’t being “inclusive” it’s just f****** dumb. Nobody cares who you poke or what you want to pretend you want to be but it isn’t normal and everyone doesn’t have to participate in your delusions.

You have said some questionable things, but since they're beside the point, I won't address them.

At issue here, is that some high-level executives at Disney have voiced objections to a bill supported by Florida Republicans and Gov. Ron DeSantis. Didn't those Disney executives have the right to express those opinions, though? Remember that whole free speech thing, that Republicans love to talk about? Does that only apply to people who agree with you, or is free speech for everybody?

It seems as though DeSantis is retaliating against Disney for simply disagreeing with him. That certainly does qualify as an attack on free speech. DeSantis is sending a message that there will be consequences for businesses which publicly oppose him on policy. That definitely does not make him a champion of free speech, but it does make him petty and vindictive. This is something that Trump would do.

It’s so important to republicans to be vengeful that the results don’t matter. They claim some supposed moral high ground regarding safeguarding the constitution and limited government involvement but then cheer on this move. Results don’t matter it’s just looking tough on libs that matters. As usual, it’s all hat no cattle.

I really love your conjecture when it comes to republicans. You have stated you are neither D or R but many of your posts center in bashing Rs while saying very little about Ds. Why don’t you just admit that you are a liberal?

True of both sides. Republicans are absolutely vengeful. So are Democrats. Both sides play tit for tat. Not sure how anyone being honest with themselves could deny that.

DeSantis's actions are being taken for all the wrong reasons. It's political, it's vengeful, it's all the wrong reasons. That said, I'm not against corporations paying higher taxes. But it should really be all of them, not just the ones that disagree with your politics.

No politician should be using their power to get back at someone. It's abuse of power.

So are you Including the Apostle Paul in your grouping of „evangelical Christians“ making „absurd arguments“?
View attachment 451320
That’s not what he’s saying.
And that quote doesn’t address his point and isn’t relevant. If anything the Christian view is in opposition to the point evangelicals were making. Evangelicals were saying everyone was born heterosexual. And that’s not true. If you define sin as missing the mark instead of evil (which it actually is by Torah) then by Christian doctrine all are born into sin. Meaning all are born with the capacity to miss their intended purpose. By that everyone is not born heterosexual. They are intended to be heterosexual by G-d but are born with the capacity to be otherwise. So Paul was not arguing that people were born straight. He’s arguing they were acting on their free will in opposition to G-ds intended purpose.

Paul was a charlatan.
I disagree.
Paul has been mistranslated and taken out of context to fit an agenda. Even Peter had to address the misunderstanding of Paul in his writings saying that the unlearned (uneducated in Torah) misunderstood Paul and twist his words to their destruction

Did you vote for Biden? If you did then put re supporting exactly what you’re talking about.

At some point doing the right and moral thing becomes more important than money.

Those Disney executives were neither implementing their own policies, or promoting any programs which ran counter to the Republican Party's "Parental Right's in Education Bill." The only thing those executives were guilty of, was exercising their right to free speech, which just happened to involve expressing an opinion which was in opposition to Republican Party legislation.

Now, do Republicans truly believe in free speech or not? They are being inconsistent on the matter. If Republicans truly do believe in free speech, then the protections surrounding free speech should also apply to opinions which differ from their own.

Do you support free speech? Do you believe that the Republican Party supports free speech? If so, then you should be able to see for yourself, how Gov. Ron DeSantis is being inconsistent here.

Sure, DeSantis believes in free speech ... as long as the speech being expressed involves opinions which are in complete agreement with his policies. Otherwise, DeSantis tries to suppress that speech with acts of political retaliation.

And that has nothing to do with the poster to whom I responded. But yes I believe in free speech, whether I like it or not. No one in DC, well I’ll go with almost no one as surely there’s at least 1, truly believes in free speech. They will all switch sides on a topic at the drop of a hat to their political benefit.

He should switch parties, he’d fit right in with the Dems.

Except for the fact that Donald Trump is just as inconsistent as Ron DeSantis when it comes to the subject of free speech. The odds appear to be overwhelming that one of those two men, will be the nominee of the Republican Party for President in 2024.... So, maybe that double standard is what Republican Party voters want?

Do you realize that Donald Trump sued Facebook, YouTube, Google and Twitter for censorship ...

... after he had lobbied the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), to pull NBC's broadcast license (which they don't even have, by the way), while he was the President of the United States ?

Trump suggests challenging NBC's broadcast license

^^^ I would be willing to bet that a majority of Republican Party voters would not be capable of understanding how those two positions are incongruous with each other.

They will always tell you who they fear. The smarter ones have finally figured out that DeSantis is the nightmare candidate for them. A conservative who doesn’t back down but unlike Trump has an actual working brain.

Trump understands how the world works but simply didnt understand partisanship and political governance. Desantis is less charismatic but has a far FAR better grip on how to use the mechanics of government to move your agenda forward.

Trump is used to being a CEO, so he provides guidance and expects under managers to make it happen. That is exactly right for business, where you can have a certain expectation of having a shared goal in the organization. That is not true in DC permanent state at all.

Desantis understands this much better and by all accounts makes sure his staffing has similar political goals. Point is, its not about loyalty merely to Desantis personally, its first loyalty to the political agenda he serves. That is much more reliable.

Thats why the Dems fear that, because they understand that very well themselves and they always do the same thing. So I would say they hate Trump more but fear Desantis more.

Well Trump was a Democrat until he ran for President.

The only thing that Donald Trump understands is how to be a hypocrite ...

Opinion | Donald J. Trump: Why I’m Suing Big Tech

Trump hits CNN and NBC, urges 'look at their license': tweet

^^^^ Trump would not be capable of understanding how, as President of the United States (obviously a government leader), such a request from him would have violated CNN and NBC's 1st Amendment rights, if his request had been followed.

Republicans are hypocrites, who don't really care about free speech, and protecting the 1st Amendment. You only care about doing whatever it takes to put Democrats in their place. You care about your elected party leaders getting what they want. For Republicans, free speech protections only apply to people who give voice to opinions which agree with their own opinions, and support the political agenda of their party's leadership. The argument over free speech would never be a matter of principle for Republicans. You simply don't have a platform of principles from which to argue.
