It just determines what your measurements of success are. He won virtually at the same level as Pearl as evidenced by his winning percentage. He won the East multiple times. He swept Kentucky one season, something Pearl has never done. Pearl outperformed in the NCAA tourney; that's legitimate. But, what separates people's opinions are Jerry Green's personality vs. Bruce Pearl's. Body paint vs. redneck jerk.
Right on it again LawVol. Green was a really good recruiter with an offensive mentality. He got sideways with the good ole boys, lost his diplomacy, and basically said pay me - I'm gone blankety blanks. Had there been a different AD and point men in the media, we would not be talking about Bruce Pearl today because Green would have established a legacy of winning without the lying/cheating baggage. The players loved his style and system.
It serves no purpose to answer his posts. He simply ignores the answer and continues with his pathetic defense of Pearl. I find it shocking that he would have two degrees from any institution of higher learning. Apparently, dementia has set in if that is true. None of his comments makes any sense and he has a total lack of reading comprehension, even of his own posts.
No, I don't.So to take this one step further. Since I sat through the 5 win season at TBA forward to today, which I am sure very few of you have.
Green had to come in here and take Houston/O'Neill half courters and convert to his modified, uptempo Dean Smith system. When Green took off nearly all of the media, athletic department, fans, etc. wanted Dean Smith clones in here that ran the same system as Green/Roy Williams - all off the same Dean Smith tree. So they went and got Buzz who had the local connections to the Bowers family. Not utopia around here after a few years and Bruce appears. What had happened during that Buzz period? Buzz recruited players for his half court system, while the recruits were more suited for transition. It didn't work and we were mediocre. Bruce walks in and takes transition guys and fits them into his full court, transition type system. Makes out like a bandit because he had guards that were 3 point shooters that could run the floor. Add in a little personal showtime for the media to buy good feelings. Now here we are 6 years in and guess what - yeah - we have Buzzball players with a transition coach. Add in the scandal - and it is a national college basketball scandal. Then some people come on here trying to convince others that we should back Pearl after he laid a big one UT. At least Green won, kept it clean, and was bringing the kids in that would fit his system. Over time that usually leads to long term success.
You know its true.
Yeah, I often think longingly about all the titles UT would have won if Green could have hung around and brought in a steady stream of Elgrace Wilborns and Andy Ikeakors. At least Green won, kept it clean, and was bringing the kids in that would fit his system. Over time that usually leads to long term success.
Good story. I for one will never tell u that u have to back pearl. In fact i couldnt care less either way really. I would however like some people around here to not ignore facts just to support an argument. Case in point leaving out the fact that he went as deep as ut ever has with a team that wasnt a so called transition team. You know its true!
