Huckabee Likens Gay Marriage to Incest, Polygamy

I would guess that marriage is a contract between two people and not multiple parties?

I see that as selective definition. If you want to rely on a definition of marriage it has almost always is:

2 people
man and woman

To exclude the man and woman part is a bit disingenuous if you are going to rely on "definition of marriage" to say why polygamy is wrong but gay marriage is okay.

Either toss the definition or live with the whole definition.

as far as polygamy, i have no problem with it... not sure why you would want to do it though... i can barely handle one woman, lol

Are we free or not?

If 10 women want to shack up with old boy..... oh well.....

If ten men want to shack up with 1 guy...... oh well..........

Sounds like OE has plans for later in life. Maybe I'll start a poll to see which of the above options is likely in his future. :whistling:

When it comes to polygamy, I'm with you. I was just taking a stab at the question. I could care less what any consenting adults do with one another.

This is some creative thinking.. I like it... If everybody was 100 percent ethical, there would be no need for government intervention in anything, But this would never happen. NEITHER side would want marriage to not be a government entity...

As far as taxes, I'm better off being married.

You'll have to explain why we need gov't and marriage.

Contracts or any other means accomplish the same thing.

I prefer freedom.

the primary problem with polygamy and the primary reason it got banned was the injustices done to children (i.e. forcing them to marry underage).

When I was young I had delusions of grandure.... then I realized that all 10 women would go out for maintenance at the same time of the month. Kinda defeats the purpose.

Governments regulate things like this, because there are certain people that don't know how to be tasteful in things they do. Now, do I think they should regulate marriage, absolutely not. Do I feel that we are a society that are lacking in the morals department, absolutely.

It's like this, straight people don't flaunt that they are straight in front of gay people, but yet there are gays that want to flaunt their homosexuality to the world because they feel like letting it out.

So, basically I think that if people would be tasteful in what they do, the government wouldn't stick their noses in it at all But, there are people who just seem to not get that people don't care what they are doing and still want to put it out there what they are, whether people want to hear it or not.

The government regulates taste? Oh crap.

the so called marriage tax really effects a very small minority of duel high equal earners. otherwise you will almost always at least be the same with taxes filed while married.

I don't know the exact figure of how many people it affects anymore, but any couple earning similar incomes that has a taxable income that exceeds the 15% bracket cutoff for married filing jointly (that is only $137,050 together, ~68K individually) will pay more married than they would single. This is assuming they take the standard deduction and have no children.

EDIT: Now that I look back at my post, I realize that I said most people would be affected by this. You are right. Maybe I should have said "a good amount may pay more, but most won't pay any less."

i lived in the mission in san francisco for 5 years which has a pretty high gay concentration and didn't see anyone doing anything that straight peopel don't do (i.e. holding hands, kissing).

That maybe the case, but the majority of the people in this country are straight and don't want to see things like that. Demographics drive legislation, for the most part.

it's really not that bad. i remember when i first starting dating my fiance we made out in a bar for like 2 hours (something i dont' think i've seen a gay couple do in public). i'm sure that made people fairly uncomfortable too, but it seems silly to regulate such behavior.
