I am 100% convinced Butch Jones will bring us back

because of one play in which I stated is given a pass because you wouldn't be calling it terrible if it worked? lol! Believe me, I know that we aren't the best and wont be for a while. I'm just saying enjoy the damn win and quit being so quick to be negative.

5-7 as a possibility isn't negative. It real

The play that made me a believer was when WKU jumped offsides and our o-line didn't flinch. Very well disciplined and prepared team. You can't anticipate when a defender will jump, but they responded instinctively. The last guy couldn't have coached those guys to do that if he tried the rest of his life! We aren't gonna win every game this year, but we are already vastly improved and we have some young studs (North and Sutton to name a few) to build on! The future is bright and glows orange!

I agree that i see a base difference and 'buy-in' from the players. But the players are 18-23yr olds. They buy in when times are good. I want to hold judgement until i see them under a real test. Like say, playing a track team in the Northwest that happens to be ranked #2 in the nation. Or a hated SEC rival the following week. I am not wanting to be a naysayer - just a realist. Kids play and jump when they are winning. The next two weeks will test our foundation , not only as a team but as a fan base. i was confounded who our initial offensive reps produced so little against a Sunbelt team, I was damn proud of the defense, even if selling out to ;make the breaks; i prefer to think of them as a measured risk. I feel better now than the last four years. The recruiting is doing well. Needs will be address and as you see the number of freshman given starts these first two weeks,, there is a selling point.
**** happens, failures happen. How you respond to it over possibly overcome it? then you can say we are on a different set of rail tracks. Good start, not great, but a good start to Team117.

I will know more when the Oregon game is over, beating up Western Kentucky and Austin peay with top 15 talent doesn't impress me.

Going hard for 60 minutes vs Oregon or Alabama will.

Too early to say for sure, but this staff is better than the two previous.

The players play with intensity and purpose. No hanging heads. They play as a team.

Big improvements

Absolutely!...This team is like night and day over the previous 3 or 4...He has the team playing like a team now and supporting each other...I am loving it!...Just wait until he gets HIS players in here! :dance2:

The funny thing I keep hearing announcers saying is, "If Western Kentucky wouldn't have given up 7 turnovers they would have beat Tennessee".... Really? You don't think Tennessee had anything to do with those "Turnovers" big boy (Mark May)? Even the SEC Network's announcers weren't giving credit where it was due. They stroked Bobby Petrino's coaching style all game long. Give me a break.

"If UT didnt score 45 points that APSU game would have gone to overtime"

I was really impressed with how we actually made adjustments at halftime and came out and played ball in the 3rd quarter for a change. Haven't seen that in a long time. Not counting last week because that was with 2nd and 3rd stringers.

Look, for THIS season it is what it is and we have what we have! CBJ is not a miracle worker! You cannot win the Kentucky Derby with mules and sadly, we still have some mules in our starting line up and a LOT of them as back ups.

Never said you should. But the folks who are saying "give him 4 years before you expect him to win anything" are straight up delusional. No one has that kind of time anymore. In the past 20+ years, you have to win at least 9 games by your second year if you want to ever win an SEC championship. Ticket prices are high, if you don't show improvement, you can't expect people to keep paying you. Plus, recruits are fickle, you can't expect to keep bringing in top classes for years and years without winning. And if you don't bring in top classes, then you aren't building and the next guy ends up in the same position you started in.

I don't expect them to compete for a championship this year, but the "don't make any judgements for 3+ years" folks are just ignorant and looking to repeat the same mistake that was made with Dooley.

For what it's worth.
We're not going to win or hell even be in every game this year. But I do believe we will see improvement each and every game. That's all I am really asking this year. I have seen it in the past to games.
The next game do I think we win? No.
Do I think we cover the spread? No.
Do we see our team give up like they have the last couple of years? No.
If we win will I be upset to eat crow? No.
Am I still looking forward to take my 5 year old son to his first game regardless of their record against candy? Yes

This thinking is a direct correlation with Saban at Bama and how he has set the bar so damn high, now EVERY program expects to be back by year 2 with a coaching change. Sorry but that's just not realistic. You HAVE to give a coach time to recruit and rebuild a lesser talented roster with a more talented roster. Then you have to give that more talented roster time to gain experience and familiarity with that system! It's just that simple! Everyone needs to stop trying to compare our situation with 'Bama's. What's going on at Bama and that program under Saban just doesn't happen! It's a freak occurrence in the normal cycle of college football. It won't last forever and don't look for another school to repeat it.

If Butch gets 8 wins out of this team he's national coach of the year. I'd be ecstatic to go 8-4. That means we're winning at least 3 games we're not supposed to.

TN loses to OR, FL, GA, BAMA....8-4

and I don't think ORGEON will beat TN by 21 It will be closer than that

Normalfootballfan is a troll-or at least is behaving as one right now...

EVERY TEAM IN FOOTBALL PERIOD has things to improve on....our beloved vols included...negative attitudes and fake fans like yourself prove that point even more. You are more than likely that guy that has said we suck every single year in recent memory-all the way back to the Peyton days!!!

I choose to see the positive-the great things our coach has helped our VFL players to achieve, regardless of the competition so far as opposed to selling them short just 2 games into the season. You have to remember that it is the inches that make up this game-and while our team may or may not win the game of inches in the next few weeks-you can be damn sure that we will give our all!! GBO

Not quite dude. I know what good football teams look like and we aren't there yet. Not even close. I say we are a 5-7 or 6-6 team this year which we've been for the last 5 years. I'm tired of hearing our fans say "this year is different" every year when it won't be and palardy having a good first two games isn't going make me feel better. I'm a wait and see kind of fan after dropping to the duldrams if the sec. I'm a realist not a troll

True but you have a highly motivated team, and a great coach..sometimes that's all it takes...

I hope you're right. I really do but I'm just more of a realist. Looking at our talent and our lack of depth, not to mention our BRUTALLY tough schedule I just don't see 8 wins! We'd have to win all of our swing games along with 1 upset against Oregon, Florida, Bama, Georgia, or South Carolina.

I could see 7-5 not being out of the realm of possibility but 8-4 is a bit of a fool's hope IMO.
