Idk if Gruden was the number one or not. I think Gundy was then Strong. I think we dodged a major bullet with Strong.

I meant in the fans perspectives. Who the fans want and who the administration want are often two different things.

I'm talking about if the fans believe there is a number 1 possible candidate, and they don't get him, they're ticked.

Many people believed Gruden was the number one candidate, even though it was never confirmed. When the Jason La Canfora report came out, and the rumors started spreading, he became the number one possibility in fans' minds, even if he never was a possibility.

That's all I am saying. Maybe Gundy or Strong was the number one in Hart's eyes, but in the perception of the fans, Gruden was the one to get, and many rumors pointed (at least for a while) to it being completely possible.

I am really really really glad that we did not end up with Gundy or Strong. I think we got the perfect guy for the job. No way Strong or Gundy does here what Butch has done in the past 4 months. I'm not sure any body in the country could do what he's done here in the past 4 months, especially from a PR perspective.

In defense of anyone who never claimed inside information regarding Gruden but believed the rumors to be true, it didn't help that a VN Mod essentially guaranteed it and then never wavered on it until towards the end. Throw in the stories and tweets from legit media about Gruden talking to possible assistants and Tennessee being the only job he'd take, and it was not difficult for someone who had given up on Dooley and the 2012 season to get sucked in. It's not like all of the smoke was limited to the posters here. The only time I was at 100% in believing was after the Mod's post, and I stayed at 100% for just a few minutes, because it was clear that VN was the only place calling it.

I was ticked off at the time of the Jones hire because of how the search went. And, I blame Dave Hart for us having to endure getting blown out by Vandy. If it's true that Hart told Dooley he was gone but wanted to keep that confidential until after the season and that Hart thought Dooley was our best chance at winning the last two games to qualify for a bowl, then that is asinine thinking. What incentive is Dooley going to have to make a bowl when he's already fired? It was clear Dooley had lost his team that day.

Even if Hart didn't tell Dooley he was not returning until after the Vandy game, that still doesn't excuse Hart. If it's true that we were never anywhere close to hiring Gruden, LOL, then it was absolutely ridiculous to wait so long on Dooley. An announcement that he's not returning should have at least been made after the Missouri game.

And, if Butch Jones ends up being a superstar here, then Hart was very lucky, IMO. He didn't use a search firm, and he struck out on every reported target. In fairness, it was reported that Strong changed his mind after saying he was coming.

Basically, I feel like Hart mucked the entire process, and then Jones fell into his lap. I hope Jones works out very well, and Hart comes out smelling like a rose, because that's what's best for the program.

There is our problem right there the volnation mods, they know less than most anybody. I don't care for the controling merging behavior, they are just fans period.

Mods on a free forum are the problem? Haha, that's rich. As bad as it seems around here at times, I can't imagine the full amount of crap they cleanse from this site. And yes, they are fans entitled to an opinion just like the rest of us.

If we are so gullible to believe everything we read in here, we have ourselves to blame.

I think we really hired Gruden and Jones . Gruden is calling the shots and Butch is just a puppet . That is what My Real insiders tell me . Gru did not want the public adulation that comes from being head Coach at UT , So Its all a SMOKESCREEN . All will be revealed SOOOON .

Edit : Thats called Sarcasm . Let s dont have another Meltdown

hahah,,groodenites still being apologetic. Some of us tried to stomp that crap in the first few threads but were lambasted by the "originals". I'm certainly glad that most of them are Vol fans and hopefully they learned a lesson.

Yeah they forget how some came out saying they wanted us to lose to secure Dooley being gone. I'm sure there were many that agreed a little but wouldn't admit it. And they bash others for not being fans.

Also baffles me how they don't see how the rumors and it being feed to the level they were hurt the program this past season. But it all goes on dooley and everything he did was scrunitzed as if he was the only coach in history to do things just a bunch of sheep imo Hart not coming out to squash them in public at least still pisses me off.

Back when CBJ was hired and all the Grudenites were butt hurt, some were still clinging to the belief that Gruden was still in play had Hart not gone rogue and hired CBJ behind the boosters back. There was a couple of people on here who vehemently claimed that the infamous call Manning made to CBJ trying to recruit him to CO was to keep Hart from hiring him before the boosters could finish a deal with Gruden.

At the time I suggested that the simplest answer is probably the most likely one. That Manning lives in CO now and was asked by someone if he could put in a good word. Nothing more to it than that as TN hadn't even contacted CBJ when he made the call.

But noooooo, those few on here (and it was just a few) stood behind their illuminati conspiracy theory.

Well I'm here to gloat. I'm not even sure if those few posters are still around. Any way, here it is, the simplest explanation....

Peyton Manning on Butch Jones: 'He has it all mapped out' » govolsxtra.com Mobile

You hate to rehash it, but you're here to gloat. Gotcha!

So if you were one of those conspiracy theorist please step forward and call Peyton Manning a liar.

The funny part is the people bashing the thread starter are mostly the exact same people that kept saying gruden and were upset when CBJ was hired.

I hear excuses even when they are trying to apologize. immature imo

To hell with Jon Gruden (yes, even four months later) and I STILL hear the Hallelujah Chorus every time I remember that that sack of crap isn't anywhere near the hallowed sidelines of Neyland. I got DESTROYED on here because I tried to argue facts, but all the "Grudenites" could see was that damn Super Bowl ring. GTH, JG, and stay the hell away from Neyland.

I am thankful that Butch is here, though. Like the hire a lot.

I am very glad we did not hire Charlie Strong. I liked Butch from the start because I knew Cincy was winning games. Butch has done a lot more than strong! Who wouldn't want Gruden? He may be a big baby, but he's a great coach.

:eek:lol:

If he was so "great" someone would have opened the check book long ago and he would still be coaching today.

I somewhat disagree with this. Gruden is sitting in the catbird seat right now. His name always seems to come up when major jobs come open. He is perceived as the great football coach and has to do nothing to prove it. He makes good money doing MNF and all the while people think he is the answer to turning around any down team pro or college. The thing about it is if he takes a job coaching he might become exposed as something less than a savior. His stock falls and his ego is crushed. He knows this and I would be surprised if he ever risks it all to coach again.

Exactly, or in my terms. John Gruden is a big vagina when it comes to coaching again. He's a big baby!

Why the hell does he owe it to anyone to coach again just to prove himself? He's already got a SB ring, and probably makes almost as much money on ESPN for a tiny fraction of the work. I wouldn't want to coach again if I were him.

Still makes him a big baby. I'd like to talk to chucky, for he probably loves his cushion job.
