I think we can get Bob Stoops

Sure. People can say Gruden can bring back UT all they want, but we will never hire him, and people know that. It would cost more than we are willing to pay. We won't shell out over 3 million per year this time around.

Not saying Gruden will be here, but you can't possibly believe we won't shell out 3M or more a year with this hire.

Now you are just being silly

And so are the people who are falling over at a coach who hasn't actively competed against another team in almost 4 years, or won an NFL playoff game since the Super Bowl Tampa Bay won. He makes more announcing, than we would have to hire a new coach.

let me turn the question around ... we have a long history of going on the cheap, Hart is the only new player in the mix, so what indication is there that we would go over 3 mil?

We won't, because we can't afford it. Also, look at it like this, we hired Dooley with a huge buyout, do you now think the next coach would want one as well?? UT has NEVER been good at coaching contracts.

So just to clarify, is your problem with Gruden that you don't think he has the ability? Or that we just can't afford him? Or both?

Rod Wilks wants Gruden

The fact that he hasn't actively recruited a teenager in 21 years, combined with the fact that he hasn't actually made a game plan in almost 4 years, and throw in the fact that he doesn't have any HS ties in recruiting, that's the problems I have with the hire.

Also, yes we can't afford him.

Gruden is not going to happen, the talk is crazy, would want to much money could have whatever job he wants. His system is to complicated for college kids to learn. That's why his QB's were 40 yr old Rich Gannon and Brad Johnson. Did not like rookies, not going to like playing freshmen every year. Not going to happen sorry.

Not that I am "all-in" on the Gruden hype, but to suggest that he couldn't put together a game plan is lunacy. ...even for you.

We, you and I, can't but don't be so quick on the others.

We would have TOO much in buyouts of current staff to pay out to do so. Haslam blew his wad on the Browns, so we know where his major investment is now. Kirby Smart is probably going to be our next HC, even if no one like it.

Then UT will continue to suck

We can only dream.. I'm afraid Bob Stoops is exactly that... Yes i see another Saban waterboy in our future... Maybe we should just hire Bobby Bushay.. He might fit into our budget...

The time is right this time for a big hire. Boosters will open the vaults this time around because our cupboards are full, fans are impatient, and we are through our 'transition phase." A big name coach could come in and win right away with this squad.

I feel strongly that UT knew Dooley wasn't going to bring us championships, but rather take the wheel and turn us in the right direction. He has succeeded. The plan has worked so far and now it's time to get the big dogs on the phone.
