You have discovered the great VN bball forum quandry. You either LOVE LOVE LOVE Bruce Pearl, or you want to see him hung by the neck in Circle Park. There is no middle ground. And whichever side you stand on that issue determines whether you support Cuonzo Martin.

It's how we roll.

Exactly, and apparently I'm stupid because I don't want to fire a coach because he's 6-3 and isn't even halfway through the season. When I first heard we got Cuonzo I wasn't excited at all but I got behind him and supported him and I've said all along if he doesn't make the tourney this year then he should be gone. Everyone has their own opinion though.

He shouldn't be fired at this point.The season has to play itself out. If he finishes strong he stays, if he doesn't he's out.People need to chill on that. Losses piss me off too but firing him now does no good unless some of these jack wagons think we're gonna go after Phil Jackson.lol. SOON

Dude come on now. You contradict yourself in your own post by saying that Pearl made an elite 8 run without Lofton. Pearl had to adjust his coaching style from run and gun to a half court team to make a deep run. The fact of the matter is, Pearl made adjustments to make himself a better coach and Martin has not yet done that. I know that Pearl will never be the coach here again, that ship has sailed; however, you cannot compare Pearl to Martin at all when it comes to their coaching ability or record (especially tournament record because Martin does not have one). Try comparing CCM to a coach that has never made the tournament. Also, you say that Lofton made Pearl, when you could also easily say Pearl made Lofton. It is a two way street with coaches making players look better and vice versa. Don't get me wrong, I want CCM to succeed and make the big dance this year but it is fair to question him and be frustrated at this point. :hi:

I agree with that. Just getting tired of seeing people think that only Pearl can succeed here and that he never had any bad losses. Lofton was a pure shooter he made himself. But you could say the same about McRae with Martin in his development.

absolutely, you could say that about CCM and McRae. This season is far from over and still hoping for the best.

But I do think CCM helped McRae mature and turn him into the man he is toady which has helped his game but that's JMO.

McRae was average and inconsistent as a sophomore (CCM's first season). He has improved tremendously. A lot of that comes from him becoming more mature and confident.

Its really an apples vs oranges with this Pearl/Martin thing...and whoever posted if you love Pearl you can't stand Martin and vice versa is dead on. The only truth in any of this discussion is simply this...compare what Pearl did in his first 3 years as head coach vs what Martin has done into his 3rd year so far...and therein lies the difference between the 2 coaches...as it relates to our program.

Actually what you posted is part of the problem; Pearl inherited a program with zero expectations, and Martin inherited a program in some turmoil because of what happened, plus much higher expectations.

So blindly comparing their first 3 years is unfair.

The main problem is those that keep referencing Pearl and wanting him back have pretty much shown their cards; they don't want Martin period, and they want him to fail. They can deny it all they want, but their posts prove it.

They've already set it up that if Martin "just" makes the NCAAT, that's not enough. They've set it up that Martin has to pretty much make the Elite 8, and anything less it will constantly be brought up that Pearl went to the Elite 8. They've even started saying even if this year is good, next year we suck again.

So some of you just need to cut the crap and start saying what you really think: virtually nothing Martin can do will change your mind. Even if we made a run to the Final Four, you'd whine about how boring his basketball is.

Everyone was jacked about the season we were going to have because of all the talent on the roster.
Martin already has 3 losses to teams with talent inferior to his own.
May just be more than Pearl infatuation.

I think those rankings are to be taken with a grain of salt. They aren't tye end-all, be-all.
