If Alabama loses what does that do for the Vols playoff picture wise?

To get to the 7th seed we need A&M to lose tonight, Bama to lose tonight, A&M to beat Texas, Georgia to beat Texas in the SECCG, Notre Dame to lose to USC.

We could rise higher with much more unlikely events next week, like a loss by OSU to Michigan, or Penn State to Maryland.

Your 1-6 seeds are going to be SEC champ, Big 10 champ, ACC champ, Boise or Big 12 champ. #5 will be the loser of Ohio State vs Oregon, Penn State at #6, Tennessee #7 assuming we beat Vandy and the first paragraph plays out.
That scenario doesn’t work. If A&M loses to Auburn but then beats Texas, then it’s A&M playing UGA in the conference championship game, not Texas playing UGA.

Indiana most likely could afford the loss once Ole Miss also lost.
TrueOrange, I don't believe so. Everyone was suspect of Indiana's record and competition up to this point. That OSU loss was not ever really even close in spite of the score. They have played a bunch of under .500 clubs. The lone team they played that was ranked and a quality opponent just spanked their tails. I think they fall out of sight completely.

That's what some talking heads were saying earlier in the week. Indy could fall out of the CFP

Crap, you're right. Even though we'd have the same record and Texas would have no good wins, I'm not sure we'd be able to get in front of them or not.

Do you think Tennessee could actually have a higher playoff ranking than Georgia if Georgia loses the SEC Championship ?
Good question. Who knows what the committee will decide? The rankings Tuesday are gonna be fun. Also, it appears the 5 spot is going to get the easiest game but after that getting the 6,7 or 8 ranking is up in the air as to which one is better depending on matchups.

DOWN GOES BAMA!

I really think there's a good chance there will be at least one 3 loss team in the playoffs.
Probably the SEC Conference Championship Game loser. Generally (since the CFP started in 2014), they’ve been a bit more favorable towards the conference championship game loser (who had to play an extra 13th game that most of the other teams didn’t) than the old polls used to, only dropping them about 1-2 spots on average after the game

So teams ahead of us from CFP Playoff home perspective

SEC Champion - Assume Texas
B1G Champion - Assume Oregon
ACC Champion - Assume Miami
Big12 Champion - Assume anyone frankly, don't know

Ohio State
Georgia
Penn State
Notre Dame

Tennessee - first away
Indiana
Boise State
Not clear who is left after the chaos, assume South Carolina?

So we need Penn State or Notre Dame to lose to get a home host. Indiana is still in the mix as well, not sure if we will behind or ahead of them.

Possibly? If they’re within a spot of each other going into the SEC Championship Game, then it’s possible.

Since 2014, the committee has generally only dropped the conference championship game loser on average about 1-2 spots (sort of like they get a bit of a cushion for having to play in a 13th game that most of the other teams didn’t have to play).
