is that Dooley is trying a very unconventional way of recruiting and there is NO evidence to support why you guys think he will be successful. We are offering anyone that will say yes. Little man would not be the description but an alum, VASF member and 6 season ticket holder will do for you.

Do you drive a Dodge Stratus?

The same people that expected Dooley and Wilcox to work magic with this bad football team and win a bunch of games are probably the same people that voted for Obama and Biden believing they would erase the deficit and solve the housing crisis in 6 months.

Some of you act like Dooley only wants 3 star players. Did it occur that maybe 5 star players don't want to play for a 2-4 SEC team on their 3rd coach in 3 years? Don't you think the quality of player being recruited will continue to increase as the program becomes stable and shows signs of improvement? Not every 5 star is a Vols fan like we are so we're only selling guys on playing time right now, what else can we sell them at the moment?

3 star recruits that have very few big name offers won't cut it, the 3 hours from Knoxville recruiting radius is a loser from day one, and basically no official visits during football season is pretty unique, you think? All of the character in the world with the Sapps, etc will not win us squat!

Again, you fail to see why we are in the situation we are in, but that's not surprising to me.

and hardly live in a trailer park.

It was an SNL reference when Will Ferrell yelled "I drive a Dodge Stratus" after his family disrespected him. It sounded like him when you started listing how many season tickets and such, nothing to do with trailer park or anything.

Logic does not work around here.. Sometimes I think a baseball bat would be better..

I do admire the effort though.. Good post...

it amazes me that someone of your age that has presumably watched and followed college football his whole life can be so ignorant........

we are ranked 25 by rivals which would place us behind all top tier teams in the conference. Do you believe putting a 3 hours radius is the way to go in our recruiting efforts? Do you believe we should not have official visits during the season? By the way I was watching and involved in football while you were still crapping yellow.

I don't think Dooley will ever be a dominant recruiter. He will never field a team like UT and FSU in the 90s or Bama right now, where every single week those teams have more talent than their opponents. That being said I'm not saying he'll fail, but I do agree with fiji that focusing on the 300 mile radius in recruiting doesn't sound like a smart idea. UT has always recruited nationally for a reason and we have gotten a lot of great players outside of the 300 mile radius. Finishing 7th in the SEC in recruiting isn't going to help us gain any ground on our competition. If Dooley's unconventional recruiting strategy works he'll be a genius and coaches around the country will adopt it, but I highly doubt that will happen.

That has been my point all along.

I don't think anyone expects us to get a bunch of 5 stars, I think what people expect is a good number of 4 stars, which I don't think is a unrealistic expectation. A lot of bad teams have recruited highly ranked classes before thats how you know that your on the fast track to rebuilding.

I understand you want to recruit nationally and get the best players possible but pipelines are also important. There is a reason why a lot of middle Tennessee kids go to Auburn from schools like Brentwood Academy. That doesn't mean Dooley will only recruit within 300 miles, that is just the focal point. If we establish a pipeline in Georgia and start getting kids out of the Atlanta area for example, that will be good for Tennessee.

If Dooley can make it a little easier to land guys in the local area than he and his staff will have more time and resources to go after kids nationally.

Just wondering - how many of those South Carolina studs that beat Bama yesterday were 4 or 5 star recruits?

If South Carolina wins the national championship now, or at least the SEC, this question may have a point. Otherwise, it doesn't at all.

Well, for the people here that want to give Dooley all the credit for getting guys like Da'Rick Rogers/Eddrick Loften/Justin Hunter/James Stone "out of nowhere," and "all by himself," why can't he do it again? It's not like he only has two weeks this time...

How do you know he won't? Again...it is a long way until NSD and YEAR ONE.

I think a coach should recruit a player he feels is a high caliber player regardless of location. I really don't think Dooley or any other coach will ever have Georgia on lock down like many on here think. Just think about how many schools one has to compete with in recruiting that are in close proximity to Georgia. The teams we'd be competing against to get all these highly talented recruits from GA would be UGA, GT, USCjr, Clemson, FSU, UF, Auburn and Alabama.

Exactly and not to mention, Lattimore and Alshon were both in-state players that probably never go to South Carolina if they were from Florida, California or anywhere else.

Interesting that you use South Carolina to make your point about recruiting, you do realize they are consistently mediocre as far as recruiting? In 2010, SCe finished 24th in recruiting good for 8th in the SEC, UT was 9th overall and 5th in the SEC.

UT is ranked 23rd right now by Rivals and is around 21st as far as average stars per prospect. Carolina is 27th with two more prospects and 25th based on average stars per recruit.

Exactly what I was thinking. This is a terrible thread.
