If it is not clear by now based on South Carolina

Dear God,

I beg you to have mercy on Fijivol72, for he does not know what he is saying. Please Lord, be with him in his time of need and lead him in the right direction. Lord, take the pain and hate from his heart and fill it with love and hope. Lord, take the bitterness of the poison from his mouth and replace it with the sweetness of a thousand strawberries. Finally Lord, if he fails to heed your wisdom and accept your offerings, kick him in the balls so hard that he cant reproduce.

Amen

Yes coaches should use their own evaluations, but we can't just blindly assume that our coaching staff is some how better at evaluating talent than the other coaching staffs in the SEC. Our coaching staff has offered a lot of guys that our SEC peers aren't offering. I'm not saying our staff aren't good at evaluating talent, I'm just trying to look at our recruiting objectively. Also just because a recruit is putting up monster stats his senior season doesn't mean much since most D1 prospects put up big numbers. All the these prospects putting up big numbers aren't equal in talent.
Other schools have reached out to some of our committed recruits.

that recruiting is the lifeblood of college ball it will never be clear to the 2 and 3 star nuts.
No one here is a 2 and 3 star nut. Why did you try to poison the well even before making your point? If everyone had their rathers, UT's recruiting classes would get the same accolades as those of USC, Texas, or UF every year... but until the HSFB talent in and around K'ville and TN improve... it probably won't happen on a consistent basis.

However your point is that So Car is good because of recruiting right? In the past 5 years they've been ahead of UT once in Rivals rankings. They've been in Rivals top 10 once.

During that time, they've had two 5* recruits, 45 4* recruits, 63 3* recruits, 19 2* recruits, and signed at least one to a scholarship that wasn't ranked by Rivals.

You are effectively condemning Dooley for a better but similar recruiting pattern to the one you are praising So Car for.

Lattimore and Jeffery have turned that program around because they are play makers.
And they are out there alone I suppose? Check out Jefferies' running mates. One is a 3* and the other, Gurley, wasn't rated... he was a 0*. DiMarco was a 2* RB.

They are the stars of the program but there is nothing to prevent an opponent from keying on the stars if they aren't surrounded by other very good players. So Car's O has at least two 2* OL's and another that was not rated. That makes the avg star rating for the O that just pushed Bama all over the field 2.8*.

The win yesterday over Bama pretty much says it all. Based on that and what type of talent Dooley is recruiting we will never smell the top tier of the conference again.
So Car's win over Bama vindicates the exact kind of recruiting that you have been condemning DD for... except DD is doing better than Spurrier so far.
Forget the dumb coaching mistakes, the terrible Wilcox schemes (which are beyond belief) but if we can not recruit studs we are doomed.
Poole behind a more skilled OL is a stud. Neal will be a stud. Rogers and Hunter are definitely studs. Schofield, Stone, Fulton, and James with just a little more seasoning are studs. Bray certainly looked like a stud in the making.

The good character, 3 hour from Knoxville rule and the lack of official visits during the season is going to kill an already life support program.
The vast majority of SOS's players are from NC, SC, and GA... a "5 hour rule" effectively.

I am pretty sure DD said he would concentrate his recruiting within 300 miles or so of K'ville. FTR, according to Rivals there are as many 4-5* players in that radius than there are in FL... and UT obviously hasn't stopped recruiting FL.

I am just not quite sure I have ever seen this type of incomptence and I graduated in 72.
Apparently you did and didn't know it... since it was this kind of "incompetence" that built the team that whacked Bama last Saturday.

We as fans can no longer just drink bs and think it is lemonaide,
When have you EVER drank "bs" concerning this staff? You condemned them from the start eased up a little then have set back in again.
these coaches have a bad plan and they will never get us back to prominence. Hamilton made the worst hire in UT history and he must pay.

The plan is very similar to the one Spurrier has been using since arriving in SC. If it is a bad plan then please explain his success.

So you're bashing the guy for "uninformed" and non-factual information in his "anti-Dooley" campaign.... and your rebuttal is:

a) telling him that some of our recruits are going to be bumped to 4*

b) running YOUR mouth and fighting retard-fire with retard-fire

c) failing to do enough "research" to leave an "r" out of the word "actually"

Just because this cat isn't wearing orange shades and assuming OUR recruits will bump up to 4* because of their "monster" seasons doesn't mean he's wrong. It's an opinion. He just happens to fall into the "overly negative" category and you fall into the "overly positive". The only guy right now that we have in the fold deserving of a star increase is Brian Randolph. I actually think he should be 4* and Pat Martin should be 3*. I'm not really sure who else you think should be bumped but it's clearly because they're a Vol commit. Worley's been doing what he's doing for 3 years and was rated a 3* based on inflated #s in a spread system. Every player that's a D1 recruit is SUPPOSED to have big numbers in h.s. That's how that works.

:yu:

I actually like Fiji... but he has a well established pattern for bashing Dooley on assumptions when the facts actually contradict what he says. His emotions run wild causing him for some reason to fill voids in his "case" against Dooley with unsupported and often untrue claims.

It really isn't just that he tends to be hyper-negative... he doesn't let the facts speak first.

I could care less what Rivals or the other recruiting svcs say about UT's recruits right now. I want to see the team rebuilt with talented young men who will work hard, develop, keep their noses clean, and win a lot of football games.

Fiji focuses on two young stars but the back bone of Spurrier's team is those lower rated guys who weren't rated that high but have been coached up. They are now into their 3rd, 4th, and 5th years in the program and have developed the skill to beat CFB's #1 team... a team that was considered invincible.

Those of you praising me for owning Fiji need to read this...

I've been here 4+ years and I've never seen a massacre like this one...

Well done sjt18 :hi:

Interesting note(s):

South Carolina is only ranked 10 spots above us (68 after 5 games, we're 78 after 6) in Total Defense and giving up more yards per play (5.5 vs 5.38) and are on the field an average of 5 plays per game less than we are.

Difference is that they're getting pressure on the QB. We have 8 total sacks after 6 games and they have 17 after 5.

The most redeeming feature of our recruiting class thus far is that it is unlikely that many of our current commits will be poached by other SEC teams due to the fact that our better competition is busy landing commitments from higher caliber players.

Your argument is dumb as hell and here is the proof.
Who has the better team USC Trojans or Oregon?
Recruiting rating from 2005 -2010
2005
USC-6
OR-30

2006
USC-1
OR-52

2007
USC-2
OR-9

2008
USC-9
OR-23

2009
USC-5
OR-13

2010
USC-9
OR-26
With your dumb argument no way Oregon can be better than USC but they are probably the best team in the nation right now. How did they jump all of the other teams recruiting higher than them???

"I can no more put this on Dooley and the staff than I can expect a five star meal from a chef using doodoo as his primary ingredient."

I'm not defending fiji, but in that time period USC was the better program and won a national championship. Oregon and South Carolina are both having great years and they will have great years occasionally with the way they recruit. To have great seasons every year you have to recruit like UT and FSU in the 90s or like Bama and UF right now. Basically what I'm saying is that if a team recruits a top 10 class every year and occasionally a top 15 class and keeps most of that talent in school then talent is probably not the reason they're losing games. Talent without coaching = no championships, Coaching without talent = no championships, Coaching and Talent = championships

Les Miles has proven this to be false. Superior talent with mediocre coaching wins championships. Mediocre talent with great coaching can also win championships if you're lucky enough to make it to them; wouldn't be the case in the SEC.

This is the SEC not the 12 Pac, Mountain West, or what have you. An OR or USCjr pops their head up every 5 or 6 years with a great team and does well. It is a fact, if you want the chance to make a championship run year in and year out in the SEC you have to be in the top 10 in recruiting every year and in the top 5 of the SEC.

I don't care what Johnny come lately like Oregon, USCjr, Boise, TCU ext has done. To be in the mix EVERY YEAR you have to have highly rated recruits. Now on the flip side I can see DD having a lower ranking this year by signing several O line prospects, linemen don't get the stars a QB or WR get and there isn't much diffrence between a 3* O lineman and a 4*. The stars come into play on the defense and skill positions.

That's a myth. Offensive and defensive linemen are not discriminated against. There are 4 and 5 star offensive and defensive linemen. There just aren't as many of them. That is a function of what it takes to be a great lineman, not a function of the recruiting services just not giving out high grades to those positions.

hahah point taken....what i'm getting at is that we need to get the talent then hope Dooley is a good enough coach to take that talent and win championships with.

Graduated in 72 and never seen this level of incompetence? Really? Did you sleep thru the late 70s Battle Era? It took UT over a decade to recover from that disaster. I mean North Texas St are you effin kidding me? One more time for effect, NORTH TEXAS ST! That's just the worst of the many losses we endured. When Dooley starts taking beatings from teams like that you can legitimately claim this is the most incompetence you have seen. IIRC North Texas holds the record for most consecutive losses in D-1. That is the kind of teams we were getting beat by.

Think about it man, 70's. He was too stoned to remember back then :peace:

I became a fan under Battle so pretty much everything since has been better...

edit: including now...
