If it is not clear by now based on South Carolina

Well, for the people here that want to give Dooley all the credit for getting guys like Da'Rick Rogers/Eddrick Loften/Justin Hunter/James Stone "out of nowhere," and "all by himself," why can't he do it again? It's not like he only has two weeks this time...

Dont forget Rajon Neal and Matt Darr and they had no interest before Dooley so if he didnt do it who did, point is most top kids wait for the hat drama on NSD and at least 1/4 of the top 250 change there commitments before then....and rivals will update based on what guys did there senior years, James and Stone both moved up last year... if you watched anything on Devrin young prior to this year hes not a D1 player, watch the video from this year and he certainly is... Kerbyson and Coleman are four star players in waiting and I want someone to explain how after watching video of Worley and seeing the numbers he puts up how hes barely a 3 star

Interesting that you use South Carolina to make your point about recruiting, you do realize they are consistently mediocre as far as recruiting? In 2010, SCe finished 24th in recruiting good for 8th in the SEC, UT was 9th overall and 5th in the SEC.

UT is ranked 23rd right now by Rivals and is around 21st as far as average stars per prospect. Carolina is 27th with two more prospects and 25th based on average stars per recruit.

I agree, the only legit argument that can be made using USCjr is that if we recruit at USCjr's level then we will compete for the SEC title once in a blue moon. This season seems to be USCjr's blue moon. But this lends more support to the argument that our recruiting currently isn't where it should be if we expect to compete for the SEC title annually sometime in the future.

Exactly what I was thinking. This is a terrible thread.
It's actually a good thread to disprove some common myths surrounding the program right now.

We have a number of problems right now that have stemmed from terrible recruit evaluation, terrible player development, and attrition due to academics and general off the field idiocy. Add in injuries and it is all the ingredients to a piss poor football team that will have a terrible record at the end of the year. I can no more put this on Dooley and the staff than I can expect a five star meal from a chef using doodoo as his primary ingredient. The lack of contribution of upperclassmen should show just how utterly pathetic this team got under Fulmer's final few years.

IDK that Derek Dooley is the answer here at UT but I sure can't throw him under the bus for the inexperience and lack of talent he must put on the field every Saturday.

Also people are going to have to understand that it is hard to sell a program that has had so much negativity in the past few years with the coaching changes, NCAA probe, off the field nonsense.

We have offered 12 of the top 20 prospects on Scout.com. Only 1 is within 3 hours of Knoxville. Dooley did not say we were going to limit ourselves to recruitting ony a 3 (I thought he said 5) hour drive from UT, but that we were going to CONCENTRATE our efforts in that area. Big difference.

is that 2 or 3 big time recruits can make a hugh difference in how the whole team plays. Can anyone deny that Jeffery and Lattimore have made a difference in SC this year? It is very cloudy whether this coaching staff can coach. We have not shown a great deal discipline, have been confused, and frankly outcoached in every game we have played exception being UTM. So if we are not going to win with coaching and Dooley is no Saban my friends, then we have to win in the recruiting arena. Dooley has some very unusual thoughts about how to go about recruiting, so it is fair game to suggest we need to rethink our philosophy. We have always recruited the entire country that has worked for us, so why get all bent when someone questions this strategy? We shall see what we shall see but so far this class, these coaches and their schemes are BIG question marks.

We just need to worry about finishing in the top 15 this year in recruiting and getting everyone of those players to qualify. As bad as things are right now as far as depth and talent, this isn't going to turn around over night. Dooley needs to get his guys in and show progress next year, an eight win season is what I'm expecting and to show progress on the field as a team. This was a three year project when Dooley was hired.

Fiji, I won't say you're flat out wrong but it is a little too early to judge based on what the coaches have to work with.

that recruiting is the lifeblood of college ball it will never be clear to the 2 and 3 star nuts. Lattimore and Jeffery have turned that program around because they are play makers. The win yesterday over Bama pretty much says it all. Based on that and what type of talent Dooley is recruiting we will never smell the top tier of the conference again. Forget the dumb coaching mistakes, the terrible Wilcox schemes (which are beyond belief) but if we can not recruit studs we are doomed. The good character, 3 hour from Knoxville rule and the lack of official visits during the season is going to kill an already life support program. We have got to change starting at the top or I will be dead before this program sees success. I am just not quite sure I have ever seen this type of incomptence and I graduated in 72. We as fans can no longer just drink bs and think it is lemonaide, these coaches have a bad plan and they will never get us back to prominence. Hamilton made the worst hire in UT history and he must pay.

sweet...I finally get to use the ignore button

it is early but no one can be happy with the energy,(lack of), the confusion, the schemes defensively that we have seen to date. Dooley isn't going anywhere but we have a right to not turn a blind eye to what we have seen so far. Dooley says we are a bad team, I unfortunately agree, but I am not sure the coaches have put them in the best position to get the most out of the talent we have. That is their job, getting beat really isn't the issue with me, seeing us be so badly out of position against what the other team is doing does stand out like a sore thumb.

Spot on, the OP thoughts on the thread was what I was talking about.

the only thing being dumped on is your continual denial from a subway alum that should be the team manager.

Do you follow recruiting at all? Or do you just spew ignorant filth in hopes that something actually turns out to be right?

About 90% of our current 3* commits are having monster seasons right now...there is a very legit chance that 4-5 of them will bump to 4*'s...and we'll land at least 5-6 others on top of that to go with the 2 we have right now...that'd be a double digit 4 and 5* haul for the third year in a row...

If you actrually did a little research instead of just running your mouth trying to get the uninformed to buy into your anti-Dooley agenda you'd know that

You're the biggest troll on this board...1000x worse than any other opposing fan troll we've ever had here

Yea because those 3* players we have commited suck so bad, I mean we dont want a QB who is breaking every record in the State of South Carolina & is on pace to break the national record for most completions in a career & is also in contention for National Player Of The Year. We dont want a 3* Saftey who is leading the State of Georgia in tackles & is averaging 17 tackles per game. We dont want a 3* DT from Alabama who is averaging 1 sack & 3 TFL a game, we dont want a 3* LB from Georgia who is averaging 16 Tackles per game & has started to ge calls from Clemson, UGA, Georgia Tech, ect...

We dont want a 3* DB from Geogria who is averaging 60 recieving yards, 80 rushing yards, & 2 TDS per game. We dont want a 3* RB from Florida who is averaging 100+ yards rushing per game while sharing the backfield with 3 other RBs, we dont want a 3* ATH from our own backyard who is putting up CRAZY stats & by the way had faster shuttle times than Brandon James, Jeff Demps, Dexter McCluster, ect...

We dont want any of those players cause they are 3* and they suck.

Does anyone know who is on the list of offical visitors for the Alabama game? I know that Dooley is only having one official visiting weekend and it is the Bama game.

I thought the team came out with good energy in a few games but at some point that only gets you so far. There have been some coaching errors no doubt but that is true without almost any staff. The fact that this team is relatively devoid of talent and experience magnifies any mistakes, the team's margin of error is razor thin.

I've seen enough football to see Wilcox's problem; you play to your strength as a defense and this team really doesn't have a strength defensively. We can't hold up in coverage and we also can't get to the passer consistently even when we bring extra pressure. I don't believe Wilcox suddenly became an idiot overnight, so I have to assume this is a personnel problem.

Chaney I have had issue with play calling situationally on a few calls but our Oline's lack of performance limits him. (Still don't know why in the hades on 2nd and 2 when we're burning clock and just outside of FG range he called a passing play in the LSU game?)

Anyways we've kind of digressed off the original topic. It is simply going to take more time to assess whether this staff is going to be good or not. I will add this, I don't see anyway that CDD can leave us in worse shape than we are now unless they commit some sort of recruiting violations. Simply the worst talent I've ever seen in 25 years of watching UT football.

Jeffery is a sophomore correct? I wonder what Justin Hunter will bring his sophomore year. He could have a very big impact i.e Jeffery. Time will tell.

I'm glad that thunder and j_moore brought some facts and insight to this thread. However, why respond/post to people or threads like this? These crazy, bipolar "fans" want the attention, and they want to stir up the drama. They obviously don't keep up with recruiting or watch/analyze football. It's ridiculous. I hardly ever go over to the football thread because some of the nutcases over there.

We are going to be just fine.

Every time I see a thread like this I tell myself to not even try & respond because I know that I will end up making to much sense for them to comprehend anything. I never go over to the Football Forum, but I finally ventured over there last night & was up until 3 this morning arguing with a bunch of negavols. I'm done with that place, I'm staying right here in the recruiting forum where all the realistic Vol fans stay.
