Every time I see a thread like this I tell myself to not even try & respond because I know that I will end up making to much sense for them to comprehend anything. I never go over to the Football Forum, but I finally ventured over there last night & was up until 3 this morning arguing with a bunch of negavols. I'm done with that place, I'm staying right here in the recruiting forum where all the realistic Vol fans stay.

+1. I have noticed this myself. I always find myself migrating back to the recruiting forum...

It's hard not to respond to them sometimes.. The urge to fight for what you believe gets the better of me at times.. You're right though, it doesn't work.. Logic, facts and common sense doesn't work...

It never does, those guys think were still the Tennessee of the 90's & that we still have Manning, Martin, Lewis, Price, Henry, Wilson, Grant, Little, ect.. on our sidelines & that we shouldnt ever lose a game. It's pathetic. I guy told me last night that I was accepting mediocrity, no I'm not expecting it but I do know where the program is at right now & it's not in great shape.

Do you follow recruiting at all? Or do you just spew ignorant filth in hopes that something actually turns out to be right?

About 90% of our current 3* commits are having monster seasons right now...there is a very legit chance that 4-5 of them will bump to 4*'s...and we'll land at least 5-6 others on top of that to go with the 2 we have right now...that'd be a double digit 4 and 5* haul for the third year in a row...

If you actrually did a little research instead of just running your mouth trying to get the uninformed to buy into your anti-Dooley agenda you'd know that

You're the biggest troll on this board...1000x worse than any other opposing fan troll we've ever had here

Yea because those 3* players we have commited suck so bad, I mean we dont want a QB who is breaking every record in the State of South Carolina & is on pace to break the national record for most completions in a career & is also in contention for National Player Of The Year. We dont want a 3* Saftey who is leading the State of Georgia in tackles & is averaging 17 tackles per game. We dont want a 3* DT from Alabama who is averaging 1 sack & 3 TFL a game, we dont want a 3* LB from Georgia who is averaging 16 Tackles per game & has started to ge calls from Clemson, UGA, Georgia Tech, ect...

We dont want a 3* DB from Geogria who is averaging 60 recieving yards, 80 rushing yards, & 2 TDS per game. We dont want a 3* RB from Florida who is averaging 100+ yards rushing per game while sharing the backfield with 3 other RBs, we dont want a 3* ATH from our own backyard who is putting up CRAZY stats & by the way had faster shuttle times than Brandon James, Jeff Demps, Dexter McCluster, ect...

We dont want any of those players cause they are 3* and they suck.

This thread is so stupid. South Carolina has a veteran team with two young superstars on offense and a big time young guy in Gilmore on defense. Going by your principles this is what will happen for us.

Ashlon Jeffery = Justin Hunter for us
Lattimore = we don't have a back like that now but Rajon Neal will be a good one
Gilmore = Janzen Jackson for us
Young O-Line will be good next year along with Bray who I think will be our best QB since Manning.( No I'm not comparing him to Manning)
Why don't you all just chill out we lost. It's not Dooley or Wilcox fault that we lost. They are working with what they got the system doesn't look bad we just don't execute well. STs look a lot better for one. Our young players look good too.

I don't mind the path Dooley has chosen to take in recruiting one bit. We can't afford to take chances on players, we need solid guys who want to be here. After Dooley has got our numbers up with capable players (which is what he's doing this year) he can start to take some chances with 5 star players. Right now he doesn't have the luxury, he must recruit numbers until we have started to build up something that resembles a full roster of scholarship players.

This is a very valid point...but people shouldn't discredit this class...where it stands now or how it looks to be shaping up

Most of these can't-be-good-cause-they're-only-3 stars...3 stars that we have now are having monster senior years

So you're bashing the guy for "uninformed" and non-factual information in his "anti-Dooley" campaign.... and your rebuttal is:

a) telling him that some of our recruits are going to be bumped to 4*

b) running YOUR mouth and fighting retard-fire with retard-fire

c) failing to do enough "research" to leave an "r" out of the word "actually"

Just because this cat isn't wearing orange shades and assuming OUR recruits will bump up to 4* because of their "monster" seasons doesn't mean he's wrong. It's an opinion. He just happens to fall into the "overly negative" category and you fall into the "overly positive". The only guy right now that we have in the fold deserving of a star increase is Brian Randolph. I actually think he should be 4* and Pat Martin should be 3*. I'm not really sure who else you think should be bumped but it's clearly because they're a Vol commit. Worley's been doing what he's doing for 3 years and was rated a 3* based on inflated #s in a spread system. Every player that's a D1 recruit is SUPPOSED to have big numbers in h.s. That's how that works.

This argument doesn't make sense to me. So getting 3 star players means we don't want to take a chance on 4 and 5 star players. These 3 star guys are just as likely as the 4 stars to get in trouble, not have heart and might leave UT before their jr/sr seasons. I don't understand why people assume that just because we are getting 3 stars players that these players have heart, will work hard and stay in school. Basically a coach is taking a chance on a player regardless of rather he is a 3 star or 4 star, so why not take the chance on the more talented player that is recruited by big time D1 schools.

I agree, this may not be a top 5 class but I think it will be a respectable 12-15 ranked class at the end of the day. A good solid class will set Dooley up nicely to pick his spots with some of the higher profile athletes for next year.

Not that anything needs to be added to jmoore's and thunder's ownage of your thread, but just for fun:

Dooley has some very unusual thoughts about how to go about recruiting, so it is fair game to suggest we need to rethink our philosophy.

This is quite possibly the stupidest statement I've read on VN. Congrats on winning that distinction.

We have always recruited the entire country that has worked for us, so why get all bent when someone questions this strategy?

LV, who I'm sure spends a great deal more time following/researching recruiting than you do, has stated that he doesn't know what the staff is up to in a lot of the recruiting areas. I'm quite certain you cannot speak intelligently about it.

Regardless, final Rivals/Scout/ESPN rankings are completed, we see who's in the All Star games, and most importantly, national signing day, why are you getting "all bent" when you don't know how it will turn out?

We shall see what we shall see but so far this class, these coaches and their schemes are BIG question marks.

I agree on D. That part has been scary, particularly fielding the correct number of players, but also the schemes (or lack thereof). But what you and a few other choice posters fail to ever take into consideration is depth, experience, and the amount of time these guys spend on the field. The scheming and incorrect number of players on the field can rightly be placed on Wilcox, and Dooley as HC.

Yes coaches should use their own evaluations, but we can't just blindly assume that our coaching staff is some how better at evaluating talent than the other coaching staffs in the SEC. Our coaching staff has offered a lot of guys that our SEC peers aren't offering. I'm not saying our staff aren't good at evaluating talent, I'm just trying to look at our recruiting objectively. Also just because a recruit is putting up monster stats his senior season doesn't mean much since most D1 prospects put up big numbers. All the these prospects putting up big numbers aren't equal in talent.

Because the only thing you have that matters to prospects at this point is a depleted roster and a very good shot at early PT. Meanwhile most of the other schools you are competing against have much more to sell at this point.

Like it or not this is where our football program is today.

Correct you are still taking chances on character issues but you know the guys your bringing in want to be here. The current philosophy is to focus on the guys you're sure about and not put too many eggs in a basket that will likely go elsewhere. This staff has decided to focus their attention this way and it does make some sense.

They are recruiting higher profile players but there isn't a lot of good vibe coming from them and rightfully so. This is a perception problem and the only way to change it is to start showing improvement. Very hard to do with a depleted roster, this is a solid way to build the roster back up.

Look man...there is a difference between you and I and the OP...

You and I have looked at facts and just happen to form opinions that are on the other end of the spectrum from each other...I can respect that and if you can act like a grownup for a second I think you can too...

The OP on the other hand has shown a consistent pattern of bashing Dooley relentlessly to the point it's obvious that he isn't looking at the facts at all...he's just throwing out mindless insults and hoping that something sticks...

All I was pointing out was that these "no good" 3*'s are actually having great senior seasons and several have a legit shot at a 4th star...even if they don't get it they are still legit SEC caliber players

And the r in actually was a typo....that was just plain childish on your part for pointing that out

I agree with you but we have to recruit talent that is at least some what in the ball park of the type of talent our competition is getting. If we keep recruiting like we are then when we have our numbers up but we still won't be any good, because of competition will simply out talent us. And I'm not asking for our staff to put to gather a Bama, UF or LSU type of class because they obviously have a lot more to sell at this point but we should at least be on par with Ole Miss and Clemson. UT still has a lot more to offer than a lot of schools recruiting better than us. I feel like there a lot of coaches who would do a better job of recruiting even with the situation were in at the moment. That being said I'm not going to assume Dooley will fail, I'm willing to give him his 3 years to see what he can do.
