If my kid was in school, they wldn't be watching this

Once health care drifted off the front page, the hate machine had to find something. Don't worry, this week or next they will move on to something else.

I think it is no secret that so many of the things they are manufacturing to make this president fail have these sort of historical or even biblical kind of frame of reference. They won't go so far as to say that he is some sort of supernatural force in carnate as part of Revelations, but they are coming close here and there.
Now you're acting as paranoid as the people claiming Obama's speech is an exercise in indoctrination.

It's just politics.

The birthers? The people who insist that he's Muslim? The preacher praying for him to die of brain cancer? The "death panels" claim? People showing up at his speeches brandishing rifles? Beck claiming he seeks an oligarhy? The claim that he's trying to "indoctrinate" kids?

Saying this is politics as usual is dangerously naive. As vitriolic as the left was with Bush and Reagan, there has never been anything this organized, this hateful, and this viscious. Not even close.

Keep up the good work, people. Maybe we can get the unqualified SOB impeached.

false but you agreed part of the Bush stuff so it didn't seem as bad. When someone makes a movie about the assassination of Obama please be sure to let us know

I read the speech. Love someone giving a speech to children on personal responsibility one day after having a circle jerk with the AFL-CIO.

One of my main problems with this whole speech is it is during the school day addressing just the children and most parents wouldn't even know about it. So public school decides who and what the children see? I don't think so, this is a decision for parents only. Why do this during the day when most parents are working? It's just sneaky. So when little Bobby or Susie come home and say "Hey Mom and Dad,, today the president spoke to us and I think he is a very nice man" I have a problem with this. I, for one, phoned my son's school and he said he had received several calls and they will not be showing it at his elementary school. I know I've said this before and I'll say it again, I wonder how Pres O would feel if someone from the right wanted to send a little message to one of his girls without his being present?

Massive overreaction. I think presidents routinely have such messages delivered to students by tv or otherwise, encouraging them to stay in school and do well. Asking the kids to then do some sort of letter saying how they will act on that just reinforces the message.

If anything, those of you convinced that his presidency is all about his being black should root for the possibility that his doing this -- and then asking the kids to come up with a plan to act on it -- will encourage some of the kids on the margins, particularly the black kids, to stay in school and do a little better.

The criticism -- and the article on FOX -- are a huige overreaction to a totally benign thing and just more scare tactics.

Along those lines, I find it somewhat amusing that FOX's headlines is "Critics Decry" the plan as some sort of "indoctrination." The "critics" are one guy -- a guy from the ultra conservative Obama-bashing CATO Institute.

This is the equivalent of Michael Moore starting a news channel and going around and getting quotes from Barabra Streisand and hoisting them up as "news" articles.

Seriously, a video that tells kids to work hard, study, and stay in school is indoctrination? Talk about over-reaching ....

When Bush spoke to students, Democrats investigated, held hearings

The controversy over President Obama's speech to the nation's schoolchildren will likely be over shortly after Obama speaks today at Wakefield High School in Arlington, Virginia. But when President George H.W. Bush delivered a similar speech on October 1, 1991, from Alice Deal Junior High School in Washington DC, the controversy was just beginning. Democrats, then the majority party in Congress, not only denounced Bush's speech -- they also ordered the General Accounting Office to investigate its production and later summoned top Bush administration officials to Capitol Hill for an extensive hearing on the issue.

Oh my God, he's pushing his socialist agenda again. Telling kids to stay in school and get a good education??? The nerve!!

I for one, am looking forward to asking my kids what they thought about the speech at dinner tonight.

My kids respect the office of the president as the leader of the free world. I'm sure they'll be as excited as they were a couple of weeks ago when Buzz Alderin spoke to them.

wonder what they will pledge to Obama? How can they help Him? Ask them how many pictures and quotes of his there were plastered all over the walls of their classrooms.

Not sure if this is directed at me, but if so, I expect they would pledge to work hard and make good grades.

As for the number of pictures and quotes, I was in both their class rooms last week, and there were none. I suspect the only time there will be presidential material on the walls will be in February.

I am willing to bet that the speech given today is not the same speech that he was planning on giving before the complaints.
I am not against the President speaking to the kids.

As a teacher, i can say I was very impressed with this speech. There was no political agenda. Obama called for the kids to work hard, and to do their best.

heard somewhere that the teacher's guide had changed and they were supposed to put up all these pics and quotes of his today in preparation for the speech.

well it is completely optional and we had to get informed consent to do it. The rest of the school is watching it this afternoon at 230. My second period class and myself watched it live. I think its something that the kids need to hear honestly. There WAS NO political agenda intertwined. So im sure LG is gonna begin his i told you so here soon, after he "calms himself" after seeing POTUS on TV
