I thought the committee promised no punishments for teams playing in CCGs? If this is true, them Bubba is out and SMU must stay in by rule.

I look at it this way, say next year we are 9-3 with a win over either Alabama or Georgia, who has won the SEC, would you think we deserved to be in vs a 2 loss team who lost to the only top 25 teams it played, and is trying to argue that Duke is a good win?

I loathe Alabama and think Ole Miss is more deserving than them, but I see the value in the committee recognizing that finishing 4th in the SEC is a tougher accomplishment than finishing second in a very bad ACC. Once again, their champion just lost to the 6th place SEC team on their own homefield. Their champion last year lost by 60 points the the SEC runner up. Their champion in 2022 lost 31-14, to the third place SEC team.

This is where we're different. 9-3 is never playoff caliber to me, especially when the losses are to Vandy and by 21 to a team that literally couldn't throw a forward pass.

You do realize that at least one, and sometimes two 3 loss teams would have made the playoffs from 2014 to 2023 under the current rules? A couple of years ago 3 loss teams were 8th and 9th in the final CFP poll.

3 loss teams will be in this almost every single season. A 4 loss team finished in the top 10 a couple years ago.

Also, whoever said the championship games would be lackluster because of the playoffs following them is totally wrong! The last three games today have been some of the best football games of the season easily. It was a great day of football. Glad UT is still in it to win it!!!

They did not say that. That has been heavily speculated by media for most of the season but the committee never said that. In fact, Warde Manuel was asked directly last week if SMU could fall below Alabama if they lost this weekend and he replied "Yes, possibly". Also, if P4 runners up were not going to be left out, then Iowa St would be in and Clemson would've still made it with a loss tonight. I agree with you that SMU(seeing how they were ranked 3 spots higher than Bama last week) shouldn't drop out in favor of Bama, I will be at least moderately surprised if they don't do exactly that tomorrow.

SMU’s 2 losses were both by 3 points to ranked teams and 1 of those is a Power 5 championship game. No way in hell should they get punished for this loss by getting knocked out.

Clemson isn't getting a bye, but they aren't any worse than half the teams getting in, if you had alot of these other teams play Georgia and South Carolina out of conference like Clemson did, they'd have 2 additional L's also. I feel good about our chances against any team honestly. Georgia and Texas concern me the most as those games could go either way. Oregon and Ohio State are a lower level of concern. Everyone else I feel like we will boatrace.

I'm not arguing for them, nor do I think most that are predicting them to be in today are. It's a matter of predicting what the committee is gonna do. It's clear they want Bama in there for money purposes. It doesn't and never will have anything to do with who the better team is. They more or less showed you this last week when they had Bama in there above South Carolina and Ole Miss, both of which are better teams than Bama right now.

Rule? What rule? Not sure the CFP committee operates by any known standard when selecting teams beyond the conference champs. They can do anything they want to do with the rest of the picks.

I expect Bama in. It's big business. The committee has prepared for this scenario all week. My only interest is to hear what rationale the committee makes up to "justify" it.

Neither Oregon or PSU has UT's defense. If Oregon had UT's D-line the game would have been over in the 1st half.

Your hatred of Bama won’t let you be rationale. It’s less about bama and more about SMU. They shouldn't be rewarded for playing in that joke of a conference. SMU would be fighting to be bowl eligible if they played a tough SEC schedule. Ole Miss, Bama, and SC would all smoke SMU by 21+. I don’t like the idea of Bama being in either, but they’d be more competitive than SMU. SMU will be crushed the first real competition they play against.

I still argue if we had the exact same resume as Bama we wouldn’t even be in the discussion and folks would point to Vandy and OK as why. At the end of the day the only reason Bama is in the conversation is because of brand bias.

It’s because I’m capable of not throwing a tantrum like a 4 year old over a team I hate. It’s less about Bama and more about SMU. They’re a joke and would be fighting to be .500 in our conference. I would be arguing for anyone on that bubble position in the SEC right now over SMU. Ole miss, Bama, SC would all beat them by 21 right now.
