I say we go back to bowl games across the board. Why does there need to be a “champion”? Football isn’t basketball or baseball. I’m sure I’m in the minority here, but I believe this mindset causes more problems than solutions.

Who cares. If you are the best, you should just be happy you are
still playing for it all. Just show them you are the best. At this point,
everyone else just needs to shut up and see who plays Oregon in the finals.
They are the undisputed Kings until they get knocked off. If we are better
than them, we''ll do it in second round. Don't stress over things you have no control over.

Absolutely bama should not be in. They lost to a 6-6 Candy. They lost 2 weeks ago to 6-6 Oklahoma. They lost 3 games total. At some point wins and losses have to have consequences.

They didn’t only lose to Oklahoma, they got blown out and didn’t score a TD as a 3 TD favorite in that game.

I think conferences wouldn’t accept the format if conf champs aren’t in. I think they will revise to “auto bid” but not guarantee top 4 seed w/ a bye.

Is this format baked for next year too?

You know what I wish? I wish that every team like SMU got in. I wish Miami got in. I wish every SEC team but Tennessee got left out. Why? Because it benefits Tennessee to have weaker teams in the playoff. If you want to be a Bama fan than go to a Gump message board and cry about how they aren’t getting in.

And both of SMU’s losses were by a fg. Idk how far they’ll go in the playoff, but they shouldn’t be left out just because of “the big bad SEC” who’s been inconsistent all year.

And…we have a winner! In addition to Bama, if SC got in, which imo they have a better case than Bama, they’d be a team like UT that folks don’t want to play. They won their last 6 games, including ACC champion Clemson, while a few short weeks ago Bama got manhandled by OK…yet because Bama is Bama…

I saw an interview with SEC Commish Sankey yesterday and he said that he proposed a realignment of seedings after the first round of the playoffs but it got shot down. Seems like a good idea to me.

Agree on reseeding. Changes will happen for 2026 if not immediately. The current plan is only thru 2025. If the current projections hold, there are obvious holes like Arizona State and Boise getting byes and Oregon (top seed and undefeated) having to face either UT or Ohio State in the second round while lower seeded teams get a pass to the semis.

Also, whoever said the championship games would be lackluster because of the playoffs following them is totally wrong! The last three games today have been some of the best football games of the season easily. It was a great day of football. Glad UT is still in it to win it!!!

To be fair, I think the Computers would have Alabama in due to SOS. Alabama is 3-1 against CFB Top 25 while SMU is 0-2.

If we allow SMU or other teams in due to record, than what is the incentive in having games like Tennessee vs NC State or Alabama vs Wisconsin. SEC teams might as well schedule 4 Sunbelt/FCS teams.

And SMU has beat more teams than us without a blowout loss….so do they deserve to be ranked ahead of us? Wins(and the quality thereof) matter, it’s not just about losses
