This isn't even an average level at the moment. Ole miss went 5-7 and has a higher ranked class than us. NC went 2-9 last year and is out recruiting UT so far this cycle.Did anyone really believe we’d be recruiting at an elite level coming off another losing season?
Pruitt will get his fair share but he walked into a mess.
Until he starts putting together winning seasons, coaches will more than likely be able to sway recruits from us.
Thanks Butch.
Sadly, it was the other way around. We took Spraggins to get Johnson.I am going to be honest, I thought he got an offer because of his relationship with his team mate, I am sure he is a good player......it was the first thing that came to my head. Recruits will come and go, but the Vols will be forever! I am thinking we are going to pickup a big fish and CJP was making room, who would decommit from one of the best defensive coaches in the country?............there's a story there.
Ole Miss has 22 committed and 19 are 3 stars, many are a questionable fit. I mean we could take a bunch of recruits just to make our number look better but does that really help? This isn't even an average level at the moment. no, people getting anxious is on "people".Yeah, you can’t really justify our current recruiting. It’s really bad right now. However, I think we still have time to make it up. The December signing period has really sped things up, that’s why several are getting anxious.
Both of those teams are in a different position than us. UNC made a splash hire and Mack Brown hasn't coached a game in his second tenure, he'll get a pass his first year just like Pruitt did last year and will be able to sell "I inherited a mess, come help us get better and play early" this whole cycle whether they improve on the field or not. Next year UNC might run into a little "I'll believe it when I see it", like we are, but not this cycle. Ole Miss is approaching the light at the end of the sanctions tunnel so they've got some new hope to sell as well. If we get to 7-5 this year and are a tough out for everyone other than Bama and maybe Georgia, we'll be fine. This isn't even an average level at the moment. The kids were in on have final lists of Clemson, Bama, Georgia, LSU, AM, etc. We could recruit lesser talent and land those players but we’re swinging for the fences currently. Tennessee will have at worst a top fifteen class at the end. We need to have a top ten class if we’re going to contend with Florida and Georgia going forward. This isn't even an average level at the moment. Baron, Hardy, and Eason are already in the boat imo unless we crap the bed this season. Still have some work to do on Thomas. Robinson I feel pretty good about. Morris is your standard Memphis recruit; he’ll be hard to land and that will drag out if we want to land him. AM has the advantage currently. Grimes I think has work to do if he wants in. The rest like you said are coin flips. Rybka is another one that probably leans UK currently but probably can be flipped if we pursue. It's going slower than we'd like. But you've got (potentially) Robinson, Baron, Hardy, Eason, Thomas coming down the pipeline. I think those are the guys we have a pretty good shot at.
Then maybe Grimes, Jarrett, Morris, Beckwith, McDaniel in the next tier of "possible" commits. I'm not giving up on Morris to A&M just yet.
Lots of other guys on the board that could be coin flips. Seems like we're in a rough spot because the in state guys haven't popped yet.
