‘23 IL WR Carnell Tate (Ohio State commit)

How does this keep getting lost???

It's really the only narrative that other teams media etc can spin."Well UT only getting these players cause their paying them,if u wanna go play for money then so be it"..I'm sure if it was the other way around our fans would be saying the same.I guess it's just the way the world works idk but u get what I'm saying there I think.

VNFF had a thread about the rumored 8 mil NIL QB: "How can this even be legal?!"

Ruining the game, etc...

RF folks dropped in. "Ease up. We're the ones paying it."

Tenor of the thread changed. lol

It is what it is.

Was replying to the post about the university is not actually the one paying Nico just as OSU was not paying the QB. But OSU fans forgot they did the same thing they are accusing Tennessee of doing.

They didn't forget. They, along with UGA, Bama, Clemson just think there are rules for them and rules for everyone else. Not uncommon in today's culture.

Correct. And that's what all the belly aching from Saban et al is about. They don't care about players getting paid or "bought". They care about the end of the system that has favored them.

I don’t think Ohio State will have much trouble with NIL. Their fanbase is huge and they’re in a huge city, unlike Bama and a few others. This feels like it’ll come down to where Carnell truly wants to fit in. Can’t go wrong with either offensive wise. Day is a phenomenal play caller and Heupel is really good as well. Hopefully it’s the Vols that come out on top of this one

Oh, they did not....... They actually wanted him to complete his senior year because he would never have played behind Stroud, probably McCord (another 5*QB), and Jack Miller (now at Florida). Too many competitive QB's. He was probably never going to start and he knew it.... That's why he transferred to Texas where he wanted to go all along...... OSU didn't give him the NIL money, Ed Ricart Ford in Columbus did, plus a full-sized loaded truck.
And Tennessee has not paid Nico. Tennessee will not pay Carnell. Spyre will.

Just like UT isn’t paying Nico a dime, Spyre is.
Not quite apples to apples. The only Ohio-connected deal he got was 1 truck.

But the deals totaling over $1mm was a Texas kombucha company and a sports marketing company out of California that deals heavily in Texas. If anyone passed dollars around, it seems much more likely from the Texan side.

Nothing really equal to a collective in Knoxville, dealing exclusively with UT athletes, purchasing a kid's NiL rights.

Not that OSU doesn't probably pay kids or have their own collective, but the Ewers deals aren't quite the same. Someone in Ohio gave him a truck to ride the bench for 1 season 😅

Just out of curiosity, what are your criteria other than total yards or total points?
Not Little, but efficiency stats are far better. Same as surveying the defense. Total numbers aren't great, specifically because of tempo differences or one side of the ball affecting the other (such as UGA scoring plenty of points, when their defense was setting up easy situations over and over).

Points per possession (adjusted for starting field position) is a nice one, along with YPP, 3rd down%, redzone efficiency.

Ultimately both teams get ~same number of possessions, so what you do with those (efficiency) is most important.

IMO NIL couldn’t be timed any better in history for UT. The last 15 years has a huge fan base hungry for a resurgence to the point where average joe fan is willing to pump their hard earned money into Spyre in hopes of getting that next 5*. Some of these recent powers are going to struggle for a few years with it because the fans are taking it for granted that they’ll keep pulling these big time players because of recent success. They haven’t fully grasped the new reality of college football yet. Vols are a psycho, hungry fan base that have and we’re lucky to have Spyre to make it easy for us. Donate ppl.

Well they need to quit crying about it and STHU! People outside of Columbus and Tuscaloosa don’t care to hear them all singing the blues and crying foul. It’s just way to Rich! No pun intended! GBO!

But one has to wonder, if all of that is true why havent they been using NIL like others? Why are they complaining about it? They have had plenty of time to get a collective together just like TN. I honestly think the big teams like OSU, Bama and Clemson are lagging on NIL because they think their reputations will still win out. That may be the case but gambling on that could prove to be risky.
