I'm Sick and Tired!

Beef......

Have you been to any of the scrimmages????

I would like to offer you one point...... The O-line is not that good in run blocking or pass blocking; they are average at best with very little depth.

I guess though you say that is being negative. I beg to differ, it is an observation.

What occured last year with Vols was not simply a bad year, it was hopefully a culmination of complacency that had come to a head over time.

Will the Vols be better this year????? I have no idea but we will all see in two days.

Patrick if you recall just a few weeks ago there was a lot of discussion from folks on this very site worried most about EA and the D line. I stated then and still think the D line will be very good. My concern then was the O line and still is. I don't think they are bad. In fact I think they are very talented but an O line is perhaps the toughest unit to get to gel. I remember coaches telling us that an O line is like making a fist. All it takes is for one finger to not be tucked right and you get hurt when you punch someone. I don't think they will be bad, or great. I don't think they have to be great but serviceable and I think they will be. I still have questions about EA but the reports are not all negative about him or our WR. In fact here is a quote about the WR

"The receivers routinely have been the last group off the practice field since Taylor was switched from coaching running backs to receivers during the offseason.
The extra time appears to have paid off. The number of dropped passes went down with each practice throughout spring practice and fall camp, and Coach Phillip Fulmer said Tuesday that the receivers have improved more than any other position on the team."

. When you combine those things with an unproven group of linebackers and a secondary that all of you seem to think is great despite the fact that it's basically the same group (minus the best player) that got shredded by even some mediocre passing teams last year, I'm concerned.
You aren't concerned. You aren't a rational thinker as opposed to all us supposed emotionalists. You are a pessimist.

Unless the recruiting gurus and most of the other top flight f'ball programs have absolutely no idea about talent either, UT has had top10 recruiting classes in 3 of the last 4 years and last year was considered a down year because UT was ranked 23.

The Vols in spite of some real player development issues and poor offensive coaching won 10+ games in 3 of the last 5 seasons. Fulmer has won 10+ in 8 of his 14 seasons. He didn't forget what talent looks like and last year was both an aberration and a culmination as you accurately pointed out.

The Vols had been lax on discipline. They assumed that players would develop on their own. They believed their own press releases. Last year shocked them back into reality. On the door step of entering the ranks of the national elite... they choked.

That does not mean they're not talented. That does not mean that talented players cannot be turned around in a year or even less.

I've read every practice report I can find. The O-line is a work in progress but there have been positive developments. The WR's are NOT dropping balls this year except for a few guys who probably won't even smell the grass on Saturday.

My prediction since day one has been that this team would either get their confidence early and be very good or else lose their confidence early and struggle. If the prior is true then I think they'll win the east and have the best schedule in the SEC for winning out. If the latter is true then I think they'll lose 5 at a minimum. The only way Fulmer staves off the wolves in that case is by benching Ainge to start working on the future with Crompton or maybe even Stephens.

Either way, it will be things like confidence and chemistry that undo them. Not a lack of pure talent. FTR, I don't think Cut will tolerate undisciplined play. I think a youth movement is very likely if the first line guys start playing like last year.

So, which of the following observations do you dispute?

It sounds much worse than last year to me. I've heard about a piss poor offensive line that doesn't do a good job of run or pass blocking. I've heard about wide receivers dropping a lot of passes. Last year we never heard about the wide receivers dropping passes in practices and scrimmages. We heard nothing except how great our wide receivers were right up until the point that they proved to all of us that in an actual game they couldn't catch a cold. I've heard about a lack of depth on the defensive line. I've heard about Ainge continuing to look shaky in practices and scrimmages, yet still being the best option available. When you combine those things with an unproven group of linebackers and a secondary that all of you seem to think is great despite the fact that it's basically the same group (minus the best player) that got shredded by even some mediocre passing teams last year, I'm concerned.

I found this for you. I thought you might enjoy it.

Hey 423 can you show me the reports that say the WR have been dropping a lot of balls and that the O line is piss poor? I know I've read that they are working hard and a work in progress but I have missed the piss poor part. Thanks

I don't understand how the opinions that someone posts on a message board have any effect on that person's support for the program, through cheering or whetever means. I'll be at the Cal game and I'll probably cheer until I'm hoarse, and then I'll cheer some more. Regardless of who I rationally exepct to win this game (Cal) I'll be a heck of a lot happier UT wins than if UT loses.

I REALLY shouldn't get into this but I'm going to.

Hillbilly, what is your problem with Fulmer?

What has he done or not done that makes you think it is right to attack him on a personal level? Did he spit on you once? Did he call you names? Have you ever even met him? Was he rude to you?

I don't have a problem with someone being mad at him for what he does on his job, but they should be mature enough to keep the criticisim of him to those areas and not where his waistline is.

It's laughable to me that someone that spews so much negativity, has an avatar making fun of a very beloved head coach, and who picks against the Vols, has to question why people may infact question him.

Fine. I hope you do. That doesn't change the fact that me and it looks like quite a few others are tired of negativity about our team. From broadcasters to fans from other schools to fans from our own school. I know last year was bad and there is room to talk. That doesn't mean that we have to like it. I wrote this post because I think this year will be a lot different. Not emotions, thought.

On Saturday, the Phil Fulmer Farewell Tour begins. I couldn't be happier.

Well Doc, you will have to wait a lot longer for the tour to end. I for one hope we kick every team we ever plays rear end. You sir are one of the ones that better enjoy your time of negativity. It ends very, very soon. But don't worry, we are a forgiving lot and we will make room for you on the band wagon once it gets a'rollin. :lolabove:

No, WE won't.

Those type of people shouldn't be allowed to EVER pull for Tennessee.

Post of the day!

Lex, you will be very disapointed this year as well. The VOLS will be much better than you would like. I think CPF stands a better chance of getting a raise or extension than fired. I am very confident in that.

I love how they come out of the woodwork trying to support each other.

Makes you wonder if it's just one guy sitting in a trailor somewhere in Alabama with cheese doodle dust on his fingers and his belly hanging over his crimson tide shorts.

No, I don't think a bammer could remember more than one board name at a time.

Running from mature discussion about where you stand doesn't help your cause either.

I think we ALL would be very interested in the answers to some of my questions.
I have no idea what in the heck you are talking about. Also, IMO it appears that you are trolling for flames. Not sure why you feel compelled to call me out.

Only time will tell VB. The only thing that will disspoint the Lexster is a deeper descent into mediocrity. I hope your confidence is founded, but I think it is a bad hunch.

Well Lex, as an American you have the right to be wrong. :salute:

I am like most people when it comes to college sports and predictions. I am right about 50% of the time. This is one case that I hope I am wrong about. I have just seen and heard too much during the off season.

I just take issue with people cheering for this to be CPF's last year as HC. You do know how that happens don't you? In reality, you are cheering for UT to lose. UT winning will keep him around and kill all your hopes and dreams. There is no way to accomplish both CPF leaving and UT winning this season. Please point out where I am wrong.

I'm not trolling for flames at all. I'm asking you why you stand where you stand. You made the statement wondering how opinions can be made into thoughts of unsupport, and I'm letting you know why myself and others take the things you say and come with that conclusion.

To me, if you are gonna go around with an avatar that demeans our head coach, you better expect to be "called out".

The questions/comments again were....

What has he done or not done that makes you think it is right to attack him on a personal level? Did he spit on you once? Did he call you names? Have you ever even met him? Was he rude to you?

It kind of suggest to me, some posters will be happy one way or another Saturday win or lose.Win, they are happy for the Vols,a loss will be seen as the first step to rooting Coach Fulmer out. No?:dunno:
