Interesting Butch Jones Quote

I saw somebody posting this exact idea recently...

12:47 AM Yesterday ( Report! )

Here is what I have been thinking in regards to uniforms. Make the Orange "cool" again for the players.

In other words, use it as a reward.

In the off season, only team captains get to wear orange (it should be an honor). As other players excel in the weight room, in the class room, on the practice field, they earn the right to wear orange (either around the facility, or even on campus).

It could be a helluva motivational tool, if done correctly.

--Good call, brah.

why do you folk have to label everything as a success or failure right away. Of course we wait and see.

Could it be worse than what we have seen the past few years?

Really? Everyone else practicality in this thread has declared it a success already. No reaction from you on that one but you hate that I'm wait and see before I jump for joy. Nice.

At least they are not watching bamboo grow. We know that didn't work.

Its not why we sucked, but it didn't help. I just don't pay much attention to what is said and done right now and correlate it to wins and losses. However, we haven't had a team of players that play for each other for many years. I can't blame a coach rebuilding our program for pulling out all the weapons to try to build team chemistry, no matter how silly some people think they are. People want him to just coach em up and win games, like running a program is that simple in the sec.

Why would I hate that you are wait and see, as that is how I am? I think people are happy with positive news and teambuilding exercises. Nobody knows if it will help or not but you try what you can.

I agree. If an idea sparks enthusiasm and unites a team, a coach would be a fool not to try. Come fall and this correlates to W's, we will all be talking about what a great idea this was.

I like it. Make the orange an object of pride.

Not a big fan of the blue, tho. Too close to the UF orange and blue. (I realize lady Vols colors have blue in them. If they truly are horrible, put them in pink, Texas Sheriff style.)

Scout team wears blue during the year.

Or the slackers can wear the colors of our rivals.

Nobody wants to be on team black and gold!

We'll see how the team reacts to this idea before I call it a success. Does anyone know of any other teams this method has been successful on?

I never heard of anyone using using this approach before. CBJ don't waste time on gimmicks, he is giving each player feedback on their standing as far as the staff feels about their contribution. Pretty good motivation tool I would say.

I can't say it enough. It might not look like it right this moment but this is a team of champions!

For give my Doolisaster ignorance but what is this in reference too? I know a football coach wasn't taking pages out of the Karate Kid book..

Butch says players will wear different jerseys Friday:

He also said he speaks with Peyton Manning 3-4 times per week, and hopes to be here the rest of his career:

I think Nutt gave out Pink Jersey's here, and it caused an uproar

Not really sure how I feel about this method. It seems like it would only alienate those who wore the blue rather than motivate. I trust CBJ and staff to implement procedures that work and this very well may...still seems unnecissarily demeaning to me...JMO

I wonder if coach Jones has gotten together with coach Fulmer yet?...I think Fulmer will be happy with how Jones has embraced UT and the community and how he has invited back all the past players with a open door policy...He will make a lot of friends doing what he's doing.
