being a career student doesnt' make you smarter than anyone else. there are plenty of very brilliant people who think spending 12 years getting a useless phd is a poor risk reward relationship.

I am not a career student. I am an administrator. I finished college over 20 years ago. You should really read the complete post before posting ignorantly.

Only a really dumb rube would call having a phd useless.

what does that prove?

There are other things that go into a states income besides just their political alignment. Once again, a stupid stat.

Do red states have more aardvarks then blue states? where is the link for that.

Seriously, you are defining states by political party..... wouldn't it be a lot more accurate to define states by regions within their own border?

But to use that as damning evidence to claim that states with lower SAT scores are "dumber" is asinine. Completely.

The SAT comes down to preparation. Nothing more. I got more than an adequate score without any preparation. Would getting more sleep have made me more intelligent as a person? No. The SAT does nothing to quantify aptitude.

it's not soley preperation. while it's definetely true that richer children on average know a lot more words than poorer children and that preperation helps, but it's ridiculous to say the SAT doesn't quantify aptitude. now i agree that average sat scores have nothing to do with a state's intelligence. a different argument.

I think you would find by and large that wealthy regions are republican and college educated while poorer regions are uneducated and democrat. Many rural areas would be split evenly though.

Shouldn't you factor in cost of living in this? Not to mention how much of that income in "Democratic States" goes to taxes.

Funny you say that, it's actually the direct opposite. College graduates vote democrat by an average margin of 70%-30%, and make more money on average.

The University of Tennessee which would probably be considered fairly conservative, is still a democratic majority.

could you break that down by major please? and also please provide evidence of this, otherwise you are just rambler.

so what? you said you know more smart people because you work at a college. i'm saying there is little correlation between grad school and intelligence.

That's what I'm arguing against. SAT scores are partially an indication but not a sole indication on the IQ of the tested.

Yes, if you got a 1600 without preparation, you're brilliant and if you get an 800 with preparation you're stupid. The formula and the presented argument by the OP are completely defunct, to me.

Really?

Extra - WSJ.com

The most recent evidence on this subject comes from the mid-1990s, in the University of Michigan's National Election Studies. These survey data uncover two facts. First, people who go to college are more likely to vote Republican than those who don't go to college. Adults 25 and under from Republican homes are, for example, 11 percentage points more likely to vote Republican if they attended college than if they didn't. And young adults from Democratic households are 11 percentage points less likely to vote Democrat if they've gone to college than if not. Second, nearly everybody grows more likely to vote Republican as they age--but especially college graduates. It is no shock that the vast majority of people of all educational backgrounds from Republican homes vote Republican by age 40. It may come as more of a surprise that 40-year-olds with Democrat parents are far less likely to vote Democrat if they've gone to college than if they haven't. In fact, while three-quarters of the uneducated group still vote Democrat, the odds are only about 50-50 that the college graduates vote this way. And they've not all become skeptical political independents: Fully a third are registered Republicans.

I can find non sense to back a non sensical claim also.....

Here's a list of the worst schools in America. Hmmm what color states do they mostly come from? Aside from South Carolina they are almost all in Blue states.

Worst Public Schools in the USA - Neighborhood Scout

Even though I live in dumb poor state and am a moronic conservative I'm smart enough to know the statistics presented in this thread are worthless in trying to argue one political viewpoint is more intelligent than another.

This statement doesn't make much sense and leads me to believe that this might be a poll taken from recent college graduates. I know from experience that young people are very likely to identify with democrats and quite frequently identify with the republican party later in life after living on their own and starting families.
